22. Weird Currency

Caterina's bad teasing didn't last long.

The sudden firelight of the church in the distance was blown by the wind in the wilderness.

The light of the huge torch spread out, even illuminating the edge of the town.

"Damn it, why is it at this time!" This scene made Catalina curse in a low voice.

"What is it?" Lu Li observed the torch, as if he could feel the heat of the fire.

"Disaster..." Catalina looked to the south. "The Light Stealer."

A majestic black silhouette like a mountain peak was rising from the depths of the wilderness.

"It will extinguish the sky at the last moment of dusk, and then last for several days of eternal night." Catalina said with a pessimistic tone.

The wilderness in Eternal Night will become extremely dangerous, and the safe zone will shrink over time. Even the most experienced hunters will not leave town rashly in Eternal Night.

Waiting for the eternal night to pass is the only way, but a big trouble lies in front of Catalina: she cannot afford to support Lu Li.

Pure human beings are very strict with food, and only food with low pollution levels can keep them pure. And even the cheapest black bread among low pollution foods costs nearly thirty shillings per pound, not to mention that the price is not much cheaper.

of clean water.

Catalina's entire savings plus the money Lu Li made from selling the mysterious currency could only sustain her for three days. Once the eternal night lasted for more than three days, Lu Li could only go to Midnight City hungry.

Maybe we should put away our greed and choose to "take action" on Lu Li in Tangge Town. The church is not interested in pure human beings, so then try the mayor or the noble businessman.

"If you sell to someone who will send me to Midnight City, yes."

Lu Li calmly faced the fact that he was being resold as goods.

After all, their cooperation itself was built out of interests.

After Lu Li exposed her inner thoughts, Catalina shook her head in embarrassment and replied: "I wouldn't do that..."

Lu Li was noncommittal and waited for Catalina to make a decision.

In the southern sky, the dark outline is creeping and climbing, as if black mountains are rising from the earth.

Catalina is still struggling with what to do.

If she didn't tell the truth about pure human beings, she wouldn't be qualified to see the mayor. But if she did, the greedy guards or housekeepers might take away part of the income, or even Lu Li.

Waiting for the eternal night to pass is the stupidest idea. Who knows how long the eternal night will last? Pollution is everywhere. Maybe a certain meal, a certain drink, or even a certain breath may make Lu Li no longer pure.

Lu Li will be worthless by then.

Hire a hunter who is familiar with the route? Katarina can't find a hunter she can trust. Lies and betrayal are the laws among hunters.

"Let's go!"

The words squeezed out from between the cracks sounded, Catalina's fierce eyes were like a gambler: "There are still five hours until eternal night falls, let's go faster and we can reach Leviathan Town!"

Leviathan Town is the penultimate stop on the route map, and further ahead is Ghost Town, where you can go directly to Midnight City from the old sewer.

As long as she arrives in Leviathan Town, Catalina will have a new option to discuss the sale of Lu Li with the local church and the mayor.

So people in the wilderness returned to the town one after another, and Lu Li and Catalina went upstream. Some hunters recognized Catalina and saw them walking out of the town from a short distance.

"The light thief is coming." The guard reminded casually.

"I know." Catalina replied as she walked towards the wilderness.

The guard said nothing more, maybe thinking that Catalina would come back before the eternal night came, and maybe he didn't care about the life or death of a hunter.

At first, Lu Li could see people returning to the town one after another, but as they moved away from the town, their figures began to become sparse. Looking back, the firelight lighting up in the town was like a beacon guiding the direction.

They walked nearly ten miles in relative comfort and reached the dividing line between the safe zone and the real wilderness. Catalina began to slow down.

Because some crawling outlines are blocking the front.

Lu Li thought Catalina would stop, but she walked straight forward, as if she could see the crawling monsters, but somehow ignored them.

"Eyeless people... a group of pathetic people." Catalina commented calmly.

The crawling monsters were very close, enough for Lu Li to observe more details: the body structure of the crawling monsters was the same as that of humans. Some of them were covered with tattered and broken cloth, but most of them wore nothing, only clothes wrapped around their bodies.

Dust dirt.

Their skinny bodies are like stick insects, with empty eye sockets without eyeballs, but except for the eye sockets, their bodies are covered with eyeballs.

The eyes that cover the body surface are so vivid that they seem to be real. Only the wrinkles caused by the strange shadows pulling on the skin when crawling show that the eyes are not real.

"Are they humans?" Lu Li noticed that Catalina used humans to describe them.

"Well, people with low sanity will see the projection of the other world. Some cowards dug out their eyes because of this, but the influence of the other world has not disappeared, and because they were expelled from Tangge Town as self-inflicted harm, they can only survive in a harsh marginal environment.

Here, over time, they become this kind of thing."

Catalina's tone was filled with sympathy and contempt: "Although the pollution is serious and they may turn into alien species at any time, they are just like us."

"Won't they attack us?" Lu Li asked.

Catalina nodded and said: "Because they can't see that they are more eager for companions. This sounds ironic... They are more united and trust each other than we are."

"But they are approaching us." Lu Li said.

Catalina was slightly startled and looked around, finding that just as Lu Li said, the Eyeless People were gradually approaching and surrounding them.

"Don't attack yet..." Catalina just reminded Lu Li.

From the first day she became a hunter, Katarina knew that being blind was harmless.

She has never heard of an incident involving sightless people attacking humans.

The Eyeless Ones showed no intention of attacking. They gathered around people like Lu Li and Catalina, or rather... Lu Li.

Catalina next to them was ignored by them.

"Why..." Katerina asked puzzledly.

"Let's continue on our way." Lu Li said, knowing what attracted the blind man to him.

Bypassing the eyeless crowd, Lu Li and Catalina stepped into the wilderness where murmurs seemed to echo.

The sightless man behind him lingered on the dividing line, not daring to follow.

"How did you do it?" Cartoon Lina couldn't help but ask.

"Maybe he smelled my breath." He replied.

Catalina was about to say that sightless people have a poor sense of smell, but she immediately remembered that Lu Li's "smell" refers to feeling.

The Eyeless People are a group of people who are seriously polluted and have lost themselves, but they also yearn for hope and light.

And Lu Li is the purest human being.

An unspeakable emotion choked Catalina's heart. She had been struggling to survive since birth and she couldn't understand what it was, but it had never appeared before and touched Catalina's heart.

Looking at Lu Li, he was looking south.

The outline of the light thief was more visible than half an hour ago, and its dark and withered claws were like mountains, stretching towards the sky little by little.
