Ninety. Assassination

"I'm sorry Catalina, I'm so sad..."

Barry's honest and upright face was still stained with snot.

Barry?

Lu Li, who had a bandage wrapped around his neck on the hospital bed, frowned slightly.

They met Barry at Storm Point, and then they chose to follow him just like Katarina, Pusius and the eldest sister.

But why is it so hard to remember more details?

"It's okay, isn't Mr. Lu Li awake?"

Pusius's words interrupted Lu Li who was reminiscing: "Mr. Lu Li, are you feeling better?"

"Better than expected. The doctor said the bullet grazed the neck and only narrowly missed breaking the exorcist's neck. The assassin probably didn't know how to use a musket. I didn't know the bullet had a parabola..."

In the corridor outside the ward, the assistant was full of joy and said to Mayor Mateusz Knox who arrived.

"So is something wrong with him?" the mayor asked anxiously, he was only concerned about one thing.

"It was just blood loss and coma. I woke up a few minutes ago."

Mayor Mateusz Knox looked at the room where the crying came from. The noise made him feel uneasy, so he hesitated and knocked on the door.

"It's me, Matthaeus."

The mayor pushed open the door and explained to Catalina and others who were covering their eyes and looking at them warily.

"Is Mr. Lu Li okay?"

"not at all."

Pusius, who had always been cheerful, showed anger for the first time and even asked, "Isn't this a coincidence, Lord Mayor? Mr. Lu Li just moved to that room early in the morning."

Originally, outside the window of the room was a street extending forward. After the replacement, there was a three-story stone building on the left side of the room, which was exactly parallel to the room, giving the assassin an opportunity to take advantage of it.

"I'm sorry, it was my dereliction of duty..." Mayor Mateusz Knox apologized deeply and lowered his head to the pale Lu Li on the hospital bed: "Please give me some time... I will investigate."

The mayor has lowered his status enough that Caterina and others can hardly complain.

With the words to have a good rest, Mayor Mateusz Knox exited the ward, his face turning gloomy.

"Is it a conspiracy?" the assistant asked him.

"Has the murderer been caught?" Mateus asked.

"Killed himself."

"That's it."

Matthäus came to the corridor window, glanced at the guards at the end, and looked out the window at the soldiers under martial law around Weinstein Hospital.

"Indeed... the timing of the assassin's appearance was too coincidental. And Mr. Mayor, your reputation is not very good among the councilors and nobles now." The assistant said standing behind him.

"What did you say?"

"A lot. It caused Mr. Lu Li to be assassinated and did not prevent Mr. Lu Li from leaving. Some people even said..."

"say what."

"...Said that the assassin was sent by you to prevent Mr. Lu Li from leaving."

"You just said you were leaving for assassination and you showed up."

Catalina crossed her arms and leaned against the wall of the ward covered with old-fashioned rose wallpaper: "And she only suffered minor injuries that are inconvenient to leave... Maybe this is a warning to stop you from running around."

Catalina's thoughts are dark, but very believable at this time.

"But...Mayor Mateus seems like a good man." Barry said hesitantly.

Catalina sighed helplessly, not knowing what to say to this honest guy: "Good people don't become politicians."

In the few days of the Lange family, Catalina seemed to have been indoctrinated into something that made her hate politicians.

"The likelihood is low."

Lu Li said calmly, his pale face adding a hint of weakness to his words: "No one will use assassination to stop him."

That's stupid.

Besides Lu Li, who was assassinated, Mayor Mateusz Knox was the second most seriously injured person.

You can imagine how the human world will laugh at Wiener's ice-free port, and how the parliamentary nobles will criticize the mayor who has failed in his duties.

The political struggle in Weiner Freeze Port is more serious than that in Midnight City, and there is no overt and strange force to suppress it here.

The council members who are trying to seize the mayor's position will not let go of this mace.

Maybe they even handed the mace...

"After the assassin was caught, he shouted for Lord Lowry, and then he swallowed poison and committed suicide."

Lori Hama, Privy Councillor, mayoral clique.

Matthäus sighed softly: "It's a simple slander, right?"

"But it's very effective. Angry people don't think much rationally, they just vent their anger." the assistant replied.

"Go and tell him that I will remove him from office temporarily. We know that he was unjust but we have to give the people an explanation."

"I don't agree with you doing this. The Brotherhood is probably eyeing this position and is waiting for you to remove him and replace him with one of their own."

"Then lend it to them for the time being. The first priority is to solve the exorcist's problem."

Everyone who knows the details of the assassination knows that the killer should not have made such a stupid mistake.

"But one thing is for sure."

"What?" Matthäus turned back to look at his assistant.

"The exorcist won't risk leaving for the time being."

"Still leaving? But your injury..." Katarina frowned.

Pusius and Barry were also persuading.

"It's just blood loss," Lu Li said.

The Book of Doomsday Apocalypse gives him faster recovery and tougher endurance.

"Vina Freeze Harbor won't let you leave," Catalina said.

"It's good if they don't know."

Lu Li looked out the window and saw seagulls circling over the port.

"Since you insist." Catalina stopped trying to persuade her.

The door to the ward was pushed open, and everyone talking stopped talking at the same time.

Businessman walks into the ward.

They looked away and didn't ask where it was going, because it could only be a transaction.

The strange thing is that the businessman settled on Barry.

"Who are you?" it asked.

Lu Li frowned.

But Barry, who had a simple and honest appearance, paused, suddenly faded away, and disappeared into the ward.

Everyone's memories of him also gradually faded away due to his disappearance.

"Why can't I suddenly remember who Barry is..." Pusius shook his head.

"A memory that is not part of the experience."

Lu Li whispered, his memory was fading, and he raised his head and asked the businessman: "Is it an evil spirit?"

"No information."

Catalina entrusted the mayor's assistant to investigate, but there was still no information about "Barry".

Is it a new evil spirit or something weird?

Happiness is followed by fear.

They were unaware of the strange thing that had sneaked in, and even Lu Li didn't notice anything strange.

Anyway, fortunately, the businessman exposed it and drove it away.

The outside world is in chaos due to Lu Li's attack, but everything is blocked outside the hospital.

During this period, Catalina went back to the city hall, brought her luggage back and prepared to leave secretly.

"When do we?"

Worried that the walls have ears, Catalina only half said it.

"Before dawn."

Lu Li and the others were in the eye of the storm that swept through Weiner's Freezing Port, but instead fell into a strange calm.

The merchant left again in the evening, and Caterina and Pusius rested in the ward to prepare for their secret departure late at night.

"I don't know why the businessman is so malicious to me..."

The honest man sat in the corner dejectedly.

"Don't worry Barry."

Pusius got up, wagging his tail and walked to Barry to cheer him up: "We all believe in you."
