26. Dao and Buddha struggle, Daoxuan intends to talk about the four meditations

Mo Xian was talking to monk Daoxuan, who was one of the two monks in Longxiang Temple, and the other was Daozhen. Since the two monks learned that they went to Woyang Fort and eradicated a stronghold in the Yama Hall, they have been with them.

Mo Xian learned from the conversation that the Sect of Consciousness is a metaphysical Buddhist sect, who believes that the Three Realms are like a house in the long night, and the Sect of Consciousness is the master of the Great Dream. If you understand this point, everything will be empty.

Since practicing, Mo Xian has been unconsciously interested in various practices. During the conversation, he deliberately leaned in this direction, and Daoxuan also knew what he meant.

However, what Mo Xian didn't know was that Buddhism and Taoism were different. In addition to supernatural powers, the basic practices were universal.

This point has to be said that Buddhism is better than Taoism, because Taoism speaks of tranquility and inaction. Generally, practitioners have a natural attitude towards people, but Buddhism is different. Every sect is trying hard to preach, wishing that everyone in the world believes in Buddhism.

Therefore, Mo Xian asked for advice but was in line with Daoxuan's thoughts.

He said: "In Buddhism, based on sitting meditation, it is divided into worldly meditation and transcendental meditation. Worldly meditations include four meditations and four formless meditations. These two are what people call the four meditations and eight concentrations, four immeasurable minds, sixteen special superior views, bright meditations, supernatural meditations, etc. Transcendental meditations include nine thoughts, eight thoughts, ten thoughts, eight backs, eight places, ten places, nine stages of concentration, the lion's rapid samadhi, transcendent samadhi, etc., and other meditation methods."

Mo Xian stumbled his tongue and said, "What are the standards for so many Zen methods?"

Mo Yi's words also attracted the attention of others. Yu Wuchun said: "I often hear people talk about the four meditations and eight concentrations of Buddhism. What else do you say? Buddhism takes emptiness as its sect, while our Taoist sect takes nothingness as its basis."

"The donor's words are good. My Buddhism regards emptiness as the sect. It's better not to say it." Daoxuan said.

"Monk, what do you mean?" Liu Changsheng was unhappy.

"You Taoist sect was created by Lao Tzu of Pratyekabuddha. I can still rely on inaction. The younger generations fall into illusion and take qi as the basis." said the young monk Daozhen.

According to Buddhist teachings, before the Buddha Shakyamuni came to life, five hundred saints were born in the east. In the era of no Buddha, they realized the Dharma. Although they were not called Buddhism, they were called Pratyekabuddhas, and Lao Tzu was one of them.

"Nonsense, Buddhism was caused by my Taoist ancestor Laozi crossing the quicksand west and turning Hu into Buddha. He only cultivated his nature but not his life. The so-called Nirvana is just a strong Yin spirit. How can I be like my Taoist sect, both life and life. Cultivating, both spirit and body are wonderful." Huangfu Ran said angrily.

"How do you know that the golden lotus is born in the sky of my Buddhist sect? How do you know the wonderful existence of emptiness?" Dao Zhen was also angry and his voice became higher.

At this time, Wei Qing and Daoxuan scolded each other at the same time. Wei Qing said: "The two doors of Taoism and Buddha are often provoked by those who are interested. You actually believe in such nonsense and provoke disputes between them, but you still don't keep silent."

Daoxuan said: "Daozhen, keep silent. The two religions have a long history. The truth is not known to you and me. How can you speak truthfully and humiliate the Taoist ancestor?"

Both sides were dissatisfied with their faces. When Mo Xian saw this, he shook his head in his heart. He didn't care about the mutual shady between the two religions. He was very simple. Since he practiced, whether it was Buddha or Taoism, as long as he could give him strength.

Mo Xian smiled: "Only talking about practice, not mentioning the hearsays we don't know. By the way, fellow Taoists, how far are the Zen method you practice?"

"My practice has reached the top of the second meditation heaven, and Daozhen has reached the advanced level of the first meditation heaven. Our Buddhists divide the world into the desire realm, the form realm and the formless realm, which is called the three realms. The desire realm refers to the world we are in. We are at the bottom. In the desire realm, people have aroused desires and cannot be purified." Daoxuan obviously regards Mo Xian as a person who can teach and preach.

But Mo Xian didn't have this kind of thought. He just wanted to understand the differences between Buddha and Taoism, and at the same time, whether he could learn from his practice.

"A very interesting statement." Mo Xian smiled.

"It's not very interesting, but the truth that is true and true. This is the realm of meditation. In the desire realm, start with Anpa, that is, counting breaths. After a period of time, don't count breaths, but change to follow breaths. When counting breaths, follow breaths, and the mind is finished, the mind is not scattered, and when you concentrate your mind and worry, you should enter the desire realm of concentration."

"What happens after entering the desire realm?" Wei Sen saw that Mo Xian was not affected by the two parties and continued to chat with Daoxuan. He could see that Daoxuan seemed to be seducing Mo Xian, frowned slightly, and his heart moved, and he interrupted.

While everyone was walking in the Woyang Fort, Wei Sen was afraid that Mo Xian would be confused by the monk, so he decided to fight with the monk and wake up Mo Xian if necessary.

Daoxuan looked at him with a smile, and a smile flashed in his eyes. Then he said, "When the desire realm is settled, you must have the method of holding your body, and your body will naturally be upright and you will never be tired. If there is something inside to support your body, it will naturally be stable. The desire realm is difficult to obtain and lose easily, and it will be lost quickly. Therefore, it is also called the lightning realm. The realm gradually deepens. If the body and mind are lost, forget the body of the desire realm, and sit without realm, the hands, feet, and bed chairs are like void, entering the ground of not reaching the level."

Mo Xian understood that this kind of concentration does not depend on anything, is completely empty, starts from Anpan (counting breaths), gradually transitions to the desire realm, and then enters the state of concentration without reaching.

Mo Xian fell into deep thought and asked after a while: "After you have not reached the level of concentration, you have reached the first level of meditation?"

"Yes, it should be called the first heaven of meditation. However, before the earth's concentration is a level, and the concentration may appear too bright or too dark, and fall into the side door." Dao Xuan said.

"What's the solution?"

"When the mind is calm, you can see blue, yellow, red, white, black, etc., sun, moon, stars, or palaces. Over time, you can gain supernatural powers. However, there are supernatural powers, but they have fallen into evil concentration. If you get too dark, you will be unconscious and fall into a state of sleeping soundly." Daoxuan said.

Mo Xian frowned. The situation he mentioned seemed to be the situation he encountered when he practiced Huangting Avenue. Could it be that Huangting Avenue was the evil concentration he mentioned?

After thinking about it again, the situation is still different. That situation happened very late. Mo Xian has not yet appeared. Besides, there is no news that there is a fetal breath in meditation. Even if it occurs, it must be after the first meditation. It seems that the two have different focus.

Since the appearance of the earthly state, one begins to enter the first heaven of meditation. From the perspective of the earthly state, one begins to enter the first heaven of meditation. After thinking, one becomes ascending to the first heaven of meditation. Don’t understand it. Daoxuan said that the form realm and the formless realm are just realms of meditation, but Buddhists think it is real, so the world is illusory.

From the six heavens of the desire realm to enter the first state of meditation, the twenty-two heavens of the form realm, among which the twelve heavens of the first state of meditation, the Brahma Body Heaven, the Brahma Assistance Heaven, the Brahma All Heaven, the Brahma Heaven, the Great Brahma Heaven, the Light Heaven, the Shaoguang Heaven, the Infinite Light Heaven, the Light Heaven, the Pure Heaven, the Shaoguang Heaven, the Infinite Pure Heaven, the All-Pure Heaven, the All-Pure Heaven, each heaven represents a state of one state, which is roughly divided into three states, namely Brahma Heaven, the Light Heaven, and the Pure Heaven are collectively called the three days of the First Cure, and each day is divided into four small states.

The four levels of the Guangtian are the second meditation heaven, namely the Guangtian (Yan decoration of the sky), the Shaoguangtian (Xiaoyan decoration of the sky), the Wuquanguangtian (Iquan decoration of the sky), the Guangguotian (Yan decoration of the sky), the Guangguotian (Yan decoration of the sky); the Wujingtian, the Unconsolation Heaven, the Undisturbed Heaven, the Undisturbed Heaven is the Third Meditation Heaven, the Good See Heaven, the Good Show Heaven, and the Good Show of the Heaven, the Colorful Heaven is the Fourth Meditation Heaven.

There are four heavens in the realm of formlessness, which are the categories of the four formlessness concentrations.

Mo Xian came here and learned more about the practice of the four meditations and eight concentrations in more detail. If he abandoned Huangting’s Way to practice the Zen method, it would be impossible, but the two seemed to be fundamentally different. The four meditations and eight concentrations were completely free from qi training, such as the first day of the first three days of meditation, namely the Brahma Body Heaven, the Brahma Assistance Heaven, the Brahma Clan Heaven, and the Great Brahma Heaven.

These four days are the process of practicing the four meditations and achieving purity of karma.

The Brahma body of heaven can be free from desire, evil, and evil in every mind;

The Brahma assists the heavens, choose the law to do it with freedom from desire, evil, and bad intentions, and reduce the evil deeds of the actions;

The Brahma heavens choose laws and decrees for all evil deeds;

In the Great Brahma, if you do not need to choose the Dharma and do evil deeds, you will not arise, and you will be able to achieve purity of karma.

In a word, they are basically spiritual cultivation processes, with matter decreasing and spirit increasing.

Although in the "Huangting Jing", although Mo Xian has not yet entered this level, although he has reached the level of fetal breathing in the state of tranquility and can see the beginning of inner wisdom, he has not yet thought about the gods.

Mo Xian was thinking about the difference between Buddhism and Tao. After his contemplation, Daoxuan smiled, but Wei Sen was secretly anxious: "Mo Xian, your practice is based on Taoism, don't forget the great way!"

A word awakens the dreamer, don’t forget the great way. All things in the world are the embodiment of the Tao. This is how Mo Xian reads countless Taoist scriptures in the Sutra Pavilion, and compared them with other religions, but his debut is the foundation of the universe.

"I understand that Buddha takes emptiness as the foundation, and Tao takes nothingness as the basis. There is something born from nothingness, divided into two yin and yang and two qualitative instruments, and then generates the four images and eight trigrams. Therefore, Taoists regard Qi as the foundation. When Qi gathers, it appears in the world, and when Qi disperses, it returns to invisible. For those who live and die, the gathering and dispersion of Qi, the world is nothing but one Qi, which turns into nothingness and returns to Tao." Mo Xian laughed loudly, and he finally understood. At the moment he understood, his body moved, and Mo Xian didn't know that he had quietly risen to the level of inner wisdom.

Daoxuan was stunned. He did not expect that because of his reasons, Mo Xian not only did not turn to Buddha, but instead took a step further on the road to Taoism.

"Thank you, senior brother." Mo Xian smiled and gave a bow.

Wei Sen was also inexplicably aware of what Mo Xian had realized?

Mo Xian turned around and bowed to Daoxuan: "Thank you, fellow Taoist, you have troubled me, let me understand the differences and connections between meditation and my practice."

"Daoxuan is also happy for the donor. The world is nothing more than Buddhism. The Tao Te Ching did not say that the strong name is Tao, but the name is different, it is essentially the same." Daoxuan said beautifully, and he was very curious in his heart. What Mo Xian had figured out.

In fact, Mo Xian figured out why the essence of the world is. Buddha regards the world as illusory, and Tao is the foundation of the world. It is the Tao that transcends existence or not. As Dao Xuan said, Tao is also barely named, but the origin and laws of the world. For Mo Xian, at his current level, the world is derived from the innate Qi. What will happen in the future? As long as he does not die, his practice will increase, and perhaps his views will change.
