Chapter 5 The End of the Tunnel
"Is it the digging game again?"
Different from John's excitement, Michelle immediately became listless when she saw the hole. "I'm a little tired of playing this game. How about we still play lattice? This is what the nun taught me not long ago."
Hearing this, John raised his eyebrows first, and then sighed:
"Just be patient, the tunnel should be opened in the next two days anyway. I will make a lot of money when I get out, and then you can do whatever you want."
John was not trying to trick Michelle.
After confirming the year and general environment of this world, and also having superpowers, John felt that money would not be a problem for him in the future.
"Okay, thank you, John." Michelle stood up and pointed to the window nonchalantly and said, "I'm just curious, if you want to escape from St. Brelade, can't you just go through the back door? Why do you have to
Dig a tunnel?”
John looked out the window subconsciously.
From John's perspective, the first thing he saw were the homeless people busy in the fields, then the numerous tombstones, and the tall, connected walls, with barbed wire wrapped around the top of the walls.
According to John's experience, these walls cannot be crossed or destroyed even with Michelle's superpowers, which is simply weird.
As for the back door.
That thing doesn't even exist!
John is sure of this!
He has explored all of St. Brelade.
The only exit of St. Brelade is the main entrance, and that huge iron door is locked all year round and is only opened during major ceremonies!
"God forbid!" John looked away and looked at Michelle with a distressed expression, "It seems that I have to take you to see a psychiatrist after we get out. This damn place is torturing you crazy!
"
Michelle took a deep breath, as if she still wanted to argue with John.
But in the end, she just crawled into the tunnel dejectedly.
John followed quickly, carrying a cloth bag and a candle.
The two crawled along the tunnel for nearly a hundred meters before reaching the end.
Then John took the lead in pressing his hands on the soil. As John began to mobilize the magic power he had just absorbed in his body, the soil in contact with his hands began to quickly dissolve and disappear.
In just five minutes, the tunnel advanced nearly one meter.
"Phew! It's your turn!"
John gasped and stepped back - the magic in his body had been exhausted.
Michelle stepped forward to take John's previous position and continued to advance.
In terms of the quality and quantity of magic power alone, Michelle is far superior to John.
But Michelle's magic power is much less efficient, so her tunnel expansion efficiency is even lower than John's.
John was not in a hurry, and just followed Michelle while chewing the bread to absorb the magic power that escaped from Michelle and should have been wasted.
When Michelle was exhausted, he went on top again, with Michelle eating behind him to replenish his physical strength and magic power.
It was precisely by virtue of this extremely efficient alternating digging method that the two unarmed children were able to dig such a long tunnel under St. Brelade!
Of course, even so, digging tunnels is an extremely hard job for John and Michelle.
It’s no wonder that Michelle doesn’t want to play the ‘digging game’ anymore. This painful and tiring game really doesn’t make sense after playing it for several months.
But after entering the tunnel, Michelle didn't complain any more and kept working with John. She just looked a little dull and no longer as lively as before.
This is a rare quality.
People who can be extremely impatient without complaining at all either have extremely strong self-control or have an extremely kind personality.
Michelle is obviously the latter.
A pure and gentle girl like this deserves a better life!
‘We must take Michelle out of this dangerous ghost place! In addition, Michelle’s visual hallucination must be cured and treated by the best psychiatrist!’
Taking a hard bite of the bread, John kept talking to himself in his heart.
The next moment, the girl in front of the cave entrance let out an exclamation.
"What happened!?"
John shouted hurriedly, while Michelle turned back with a sneer on her face:
"Sorry, John, I seem to have made a mistake."
"How can this be?"
John said subconsciously.
In order to ensure that this tunnel would not be repaired crookedly, he had done a lot of preparation work.
He even made a simple compass and level. According to his calculations, as long as the tunnel is dug more than twenty meters further, it should lead directly to a small river south of St. Brelade.
When that time comes, they will be able to escape as described in "The Shawshank Redemption"!
However, when John squeezed in beside Michelle, what appeared in front of him was not the tranquil lake and the golden land filled with sunshine, but an extremely eerie basement.
The basement is about thirty square meters, and there are a large number of bottles, jars, and various weird biological organ specimens and machines placed on the wooden shelves in the corner.
In the center of the basement, there were a large number of corpses piled up.
With the dim light emitted by a blue gem on the ceiling, John could clearly see that not all of these corpses were human.
There are also many short, furry monster corpses that don't look like humans at first sight.
They are piled up randomly, and some are even artificially spliced together. The scene is extremely terrifying.
John looked at the basement in front of him, smelling the familiar smell of blood in the air, and the scars all over his body began to hurt again.
He recognized this place!
The original owner was also one of the pile of corpses.
This is the lair of those mysterious visitors!
Perhaps because of returning to his hometown, the memory fragments in John's mind kept emerging and spliced together spontaneously.
At this moment, John seemed to have truly become the original owner, experiencing the bone-gnawing pain firsthand!
"Ho--"
Great pain fell on John, veins popped out all over his body, his mouth opened involuntarily, and he let out low roars.
And the moment John opened his mouth.
The turquoise gem suddenly glowed brightly.
A ball of pure cold magic power surged out from it and rushed straight into John's mouth.
The depleted magic power in John's body was instantly replenished and continued to grow at an extremely fast rate.
John felt like a balloon, being inflated, inflated, inflated by the incoming magic...
If this continues, he will eventually explode like a balloon!
But just when John was about to despair, the huge magic power in his body collapsed rapidly, and finally formed a new, indescribable substance!
The substance continued to flow through his body along with his blood vessels.
And with their appearance, John suddenly discovered that he had the ability to generate magic independently!
Chapter completed!
