Chapter 207 Recruitment

Raymond held his child and slowly walked towards the Iron Brotherhood relief station. Beside him was his wife, and the two held hands tightly, with a serious expression. The child was crying in Raymond's arms, shouting "Mom, don't leave." Neither of the couple answered, but their hearts were broken.

Raymond was originally a senior actuary and one of the top positions in finance. He used to work at the New York branch of PwC, but now... he is nothing.

No one needs an accountant in the end of the world, let alone an actuary. He finally survived the first half of the end of the world with a gun and a little food savings. But after escaping from Manhattan to Staten Island, he found that it was becoming increasingly difficult for him to maintain his family.

Just a week ago, Raymond, who was out looking for food, returned empty-handed. His wife told him another bad news - his two-year-old son was starved to death, and his five-year-old eldest son couldn't hold on. That day, the whole family hugged each other and cried bitterly, desperate and painful.

In the next week, Raymond, who was forced to a desperate situation, tried every possible way. He even killed people in order to get food, but this still could not support the family of three. The eldest son became thinner and thinner, and his cheeks became more and more sunken. Even if the couple gave him all the food they got, the child still fainted several times and could die at any time.

When he was desperate, Raymond's wife proposed to be a female slave and sell herself for some food. There is a slave market near the Iron Brotherhood relief station, and many people are selling themselves somewhere, and often they can buy a person with just a piece of bread.

But what can a piece of bread do? It cannot help the Raymond family get out of trouble. This proposal has silenced him for a long time, and he can only nod and agree. This may be the last thing the couple can do for their children.

When the wife said goodbye to the child, the five-year-old eldest son didn't know how to react and kept shouting, "Mom, don't leave." But the wife could only smile bitterly and kiss, and there was no other way.

The relief station no longer provides any relief. Under the wall of the building was a person who was trying to sell himself. Raymond only had two or three hundred people here once, but now there are a thousand people here.

The wife walked to the wall and expressed her willingness to sell herself, while Raymond stood a few meters away, and the couple looked at each other. The wife was laughing, while Raymond had a cold face, and the child was crying, reaching out to want the mother's hug.

A vicious gunman walked by the crowd, and many people were watching him. The man looked down at the person beside the wall with a sense of pride as a superior person. He focused on the woman, and when he walked to Raymond's wife, he deliberately reached out and grabbed his chest.

Raymond turned his face away. He didn't want to listen to the bargaining between his wife and the gunman, which made him feel humiliated. But he couldn't leave, and he wanted to take away the food he had sold for. The child cried and fainted from hunger again. This made his wife unable to hold on with the gunman for too long. She sold herself for only half a piece of bread.

When the bread was handed to Raymond, his wife kissed him and the child for the last time and said in his ear: "Don't give up, dear Raymond, our children will be taken care of in the future. If any misfortune really happens, I believe you will do your best, and see you in heaven."

Raymond had no tears, and his heart was broken at this moment.

His wife was taken away by the gunman. Raymond bit half of the bread that was about to be sent to the child's mouth and choked while feeding it. After the child ate something, he had some strength and called "Mom" again, but his mother was no longer by his side.

And what should I do next? Raymond had no idea at all. He walked slowly out and suddenly heard someone in the slave market and the crowd was surging in one direction.

"What happened?" Raymond couldn't help but follow the crowd, "Is there any food distributed at the relief station?"

But Raymond heard an electric speaker shouting: "Get out, get out, we don't have ordinary labor this time, we need some senior talents. We need accounting, financial personnel, logistics management personnel, and intelligence analysts. Who can do fake accounts? Tell me, who can do fake accounts? I now need someone who is good at making fake accounts."

This sound made Raymond feel like he heard the sound of nature. He ran quickly to the electric speaker and shouted with all his strength: "I can make fake accounts. I am an actuary of PwC. My biggest skill is making fake accounts. I promise that I will do it perfectly. Even people from the IRS cannot find any flaws."

Raymond's roar even overshadowed the sound of the electric horn. He knocked away several people and rushed to the front of the electric horn, "I, I, I, I can really make fake accounts. I have made fake accounts for more than 100 large companies around the world. Believe me, I am an expert in this regard."

The person holding the electric speaker glanced at Raymond a few times, turned his head and said, "Then you stand behind me."

Raymond held the child and pressed tightly behind the person holding the electric speaker. There were several gun-carrying soldiers beside him to block the surging crowd.

The electric speaker recruited a lot of people this time, and soon more than fifty people stood behind him. Someone interviewed these people on the spot. After passing, they sent them a piece of bread and water to them.

Bread, bread, bread, and just half a piece of bread sold his wife, and now Raymond had a piece of bread. He quickly found the electric speaker and begged, "Please give me some time. I'm going to redeem my wife. She has just been bought."

"No, what should you do if you run away?" The electric speaker refused without hesitation.

"I swear I won't run away, and my wife was a distributor at the Port of New York, responsible for planning cargo transportation and vehicle allocation. Do you need a distributor? Please hire my wife too." Raymond continued to plead.

The electric speaker thought about it for a while, and finally agreed to Raymond's request and sent someone to follow him to redeem his wife. Raymond hurriedly chased after his wife when she was taken away, and saw his wife being raped in a building ruin several hundred meters away.

"Wait, wait, I won't sell my wife anymore. I'll give you the bread. You just paid half a piece of bread. I'll redeem my wife with a piece of bread." Raymond handed over the bread in his palm, but during the violent run, most of the bread fell apart.

"You are playing tricks on me!" The gunman, who was having fun, was furious and stood up with his pants, and pulled out his gun and was about to kill Raymond. "No one can play tricks on me."

Bang..., a gunshot!
