Chapter 1051 TF card

.Why is the memory card market so chaotic? It is unified in the same format...: Shen Ying is very puzzled by this. She always believes that this disorderly competition will only cause waste of resources.

"It's not because of interests!" Fan Wubing replied, "This involves a dispute over standards. Everyone hopes to attack opponents by establishing their own standards. How can it be unified? At most, it is to survive the fittest through market competition, so that all the yellow sand can be eliminated and gold can be left behind."

"It's all caused by interests," said Shen Ying.

Fan Wubing suddenly remembered a story, and said, "The story of the Babylonian Tower is recorded in the Bible Genesis. The survivors after Noah's ark have reproduced many descendants. Because they were all from Noah's three sons, all of them spoke the same language and the same accent. And they were about to build the Tower of Heaven in Shina. But God did not allow mortals to reach their own heights, so the Lord changed their accents, making it impossible for people to communicate their feelings, and to be unable to unite their thoughts, and suspicion and quarrel appeared. The Babylonian Tower was abandoned halfway, and the originally consistent language was disrupted."

Don't think this is just a scene in the biblical story, the modern Babylonian tower is playing out in the memory card field.

At the electronic entertainment exhibition that opened on May 19, Sony Computer Entertainment displayed the next generation of handheld gaming consoles. What is noticeable is that Sony has specially opened a new storage disc, a general-purpose media disc with a diameter of 6 and storage capacity.

This is the third type of memory opened by Sony. Before that, there were memory sticks specially used for the Walkman. In addition to Sony, E Company only opened the "cane kang card, that is, the card, which is currently the cheap storage option commonly used by most digital products.

Toshiba's Duka is used by companies such as Olympus and Fuji as the memory device for their digital cameras. Although the card is called Smart Card, it is not smart at all. It simply encapsulates the memory chip and does not contain control circuits. All read and write operations rely entirely on the devices that use it.

In addition, Siemens launched a card in 1997 and a card jointly made by Toshiba and Panasonic. If you think there are not enough varieties, you can also add Fuji is not satisfied with Toshiba's card taming, and has made independent efforts with Olympus and launched a smaller Shen card. This is not a lot of technical specifications that are not popular.

In fact, the technical ideas of these various incompatible memory cards are the same, they all use a combination of machine and memory, the only difference is in the packaging mode and interface.

As digital cameras, smart phones and other digital devices have become personal consumer goods in the new era, more and more information and data created by people recording historical pictures and communicating. It should be normal to use memory cards interchangeably among different types of digital devices, which greatly highlights the problem of memory cards being incompatible.

In Fan Wubing's personal opinion, it is precisely because various manufacturers artificially create different standards for memory cards that could have been the same origin in order to establish their own memory card standards.

It seems that Dan's pursuit of commercial interests can explain all this, but the problem seems to be more than that simple.

Vinson of the magazine once wrote an article accusing Sony of quasi-barrier breaking on memory cards, because Sony's memory stick can only be used on Sony's electronic devices, and these electronic devices do not support other specifications of memory cards by default. Sony's consumers often fall into a trap. If you buy a Sony device, you have to buy a second one, because only in this way can the data on the memory stick be shared and exchanged.

Behind the standards dispute is not only a technological dispute, but also a market operation dispute. Memory cards can be regarded as a newborn in the digital consumption era. When the market is not yet fully mature, major manufacturers are fighting openly and secretly, hoping that their technical standards will be accepted by everyone. If you think carefully, you will realize that the reason why the memory card specifications are chaotic is closely related to the transformation of electronic consumer products in the digital era. Sony is just a businessman who will make full use of the technological change process.

In the past, film, tape, and even hard-working, there was no such chaos as memory cards because there were global unified standards setters, and the technological changes of traditional analog storage media were far less rapid than those of digital memory cards. This seemed to be something that advocates of global technological revolution did not expect. In their opinion, it was more important to subvert tradition with digitalization. In comparison, the specific problems such as small memory card swaps seem insignificant.

In Hebrew, the pronunciation of the word "confusion" is Babylon. According to the description in Genesis, the Tower of Babylon undoubtedly added the world's first profession: retrieval.

In today's new digital era, the chaotic situation of memory cards has undoubtedly reproduced the Babylon Tower phenomenon, resulting in multi-spec card readers. This seemingly unnecessary product has actually exceeded one billion US dollars in sales this year.

"This is competition, you can do everything you can," Fan Wubing said with some emotion. "Now we are also paying close attention to the progress in this area, and tend to be a new standard, fraud."

The product design of the card is also designed using a field architecture, with a size of almost only a piece of fingernail.

Before the market was launched, mobile phone manufacturers used embedded memory. Although these modules were easy to assemble and design, they were troublesome to be unable to change according to actual trend demands, because their capacity was limited and there was no room for upgrading.

The application model imitated by Tian enables the same card to be applied in different models of mobile phones, so that mobile phone manufacturers no longer have to worry about card-type design, because it is enough to be a mobile storage.

This card is currently only present in the laboratory and has not been formed. It was jointly developed by Motorola and Blood. Four, and there is no official product yet. According to information obtained by the intelligence department of Fan's Investment Group, this is a small card with a volume of about one-quarter of the field card, which can be regarded as the smallest storage card at present.

The card can be used through a card converter. When the milk card is used, the adapter can be used on a device that uses a card as a storage medium.

In fact, card making is mainly developed for taking large images on camera phones and able to download larger video clips. Therefore, fraud cards can be used to store personal data, such as digital photos, boron 3, games, applications and personal data for mobile phones, etc. A copyright protection management system is also set up to protect downloaded music, images and games.

On this basis, it is also possible to consider adding encryption functions to new computer cards launched in the future to protect personal data, financial records and medical documents.

Small repellent cards allow manufacturers to adopt this design without worrying about the volume of the phone, while another flexible application allows suppliers to replace them at any time according to customer needs before delivery. This advantage is not available with embedded flash memory.

"Since you Fan has such a plan, do you have samples?" Shen Ying is most concerned about practicality.

Fan Wubing replied, "The main technical performance parameters have been obtained in the laboratory. It seems that the other party does not mean to launch it immediately, so we plan to launch this technology first. However, once it is launched, Motorola and Qu Siye will definitely be very annoyed. I need to be prepared to deal with all aspects of the reaction."

"You can also get such advanced technology?" Shen Ying seemed very surprised.

"There is nothing difficult in the world, I'm afraid of those who are interested. We have been following this technology for a long time, so we naturally gain something. Moreover, we have accumulated enough technology in this area. Moreover, this technology is not very advanced. Combined with the strength of our chip production and research department, it is not a big problem. But even so, there are still some patent issues here. I think there are still some fees to pay, but not too much." Fan Wubing replied.

The key problem is that the card is still made with a curved structure, so patent issues in this regard are inevitable. However, compared with the application prospects of card use, Fan Wubing thinks the expense is worth it, because he basically occupies a position in the domestic mobile phone market. In such a large market, once a large number of card repetitions are used, how much income will it bring to him?

Especially if you can consider entering the market for digital cameras or related products in the future, the application prospects for card use are still very broad, especially if you persuade Kodak or some other digital camera manufacturers to use their own standards, the effect will be even better.

In any case, the domestic market must be cut off by yourself, otherwise it will become very troublesome in the future. For mobile phone manufacturers such as Motorola's old rival Nokia, Fan Wubing can give them some discounts and recommend them to use the memory card standards they set, even if they can post a little.
