Chapter 20 Unexpected Discovery

After seeing off the three Wang brothers, Fan Wubing began to examine the things they sent, classified them one by one, labeled them, and placed them in a suitable position according to their value.

In later generations, Fan Wubing had learned about the library's management system in order to meet the acceptance of the superiors. In his collection, he adopted a similar method, placing various things in categories according to the age, purchase prices, and future values, so that he could find what he needed at any time. For this reason, he specially made a notebook to record in detail.

Among the things acquired this time, Fan Wubing is most concerned about the Xuande Furnace.

During the reign of Emperor Xuande of the Ming Dynasty, in order to satisfy his appetite for enjoying incense burners, he specially ordered the import of a batch of red copper from the Siam Kingdom. He ordered the imperial craftsman Lu Zhen and the assistant minister of the Ministry of Works of Wu Bangzuo to design and supervise the incense burners based on the styles of the famous porcelain of the Chai Kiln, Ru Kiln, Official Kiln, Ge Kiln, Jun Kiln, and Ding Kiln contained in the imperial palace, as well as historical records such as "Xuanhe Bo Ancient Catalogue" and "Archaeological Pictures".

In order to ensure the quality of the incense burner, the craftsman selected dozens of precious metals such as gold and silver, and carefully casted with red copper more than ten times. The finished copper incense burner has a crystal clear and warm color, which is really a treasure among the Ming Dynasty handicrafts. The successful casting of the Xuande furnace set a precedent for later copper furnaces. In a long history, the Xuande furnace has become the general name for the copper incense burner.

In the third year of Xuande, three thousand incense burners were cast using this batch of red copper furnaces, and there were no more products. These Xuande furnaces were hidden in the forbidden palace, and ordinary people only knew their names but did not see their shape. After hundreds of years of ups and downs, the copper incense burners that were truly cast in the third year of Xuande were extremely rare.

In order to make huge profits, antique dealers imitate Xuande furnaces from the Xuande period in the Ming Dynasty to the Republic of China period. Just after the Xuande furnace was stopped, some officials in charge of "the matter of casting" summoned the original furnace craftsmen and imitated them according to the drawings and craftsmanship of the Xuande furnace.

These carefully cast imitations are comparable to the authentic ones, and experts cannot distinguish them. To date, none of the many Xuande furnaces collected in major museums in China can be recognized by many appraisers as real Xuande furnaces.

In later generations, Fan Wubing also got a Xuande furnace, but it was identified as a fake. He was upset for a long time. Today, he accidentally received one, so he naturally had to pay more attention.

It is said that the Xuande Furnace is made of "wind-ground copper" tributed by Siam (Thailand), plus more than 30 raw materials such as gold, silver, tin, and gems. The Xuande Furnace is strictly formulated and smelting is particularly refined. It usually takes six to twelve refinings.

The Xuande copper furnace is elegant and exquisite in style, and is mostly used in the palace. Only a small part is rewarded to royal relatives, famous civil and military ministers, as well as major temples, ancestral halls and temples in the country. The materials are exquisite and extremely well-made. In the early years of the Republic of China, an exquisite Xuande furnace was often priced at hundreds of thousands, which is a priceless treasure. However, the more it went on, the real Xuande furnace was hard to see.

The most wonderful thing about Xuande Furnace is its color, which is blended inside and emits strange light from dullness. Historical records contain more than 40 colors, which are loved by the world. There are many names for its color. For example, purple-belly blue-black-like eggplant skin is called eggplant skin color; black and yellow-like Sutra-Cancun paper is called Sutra-Cancun color; black and white-colored red-colored yellow-colored brown; like the soil-filled old jade is called earth-precious color; white-yellow-colored color is called Tangpei color, and yellow-red ground, with colorful spots on it, called Song-Burgward spot; spots that are brighter than pearl sand are called vermilion spots; light pig liver color, maroon red, amber color, tea powder, crab shell green, etc.

Xiang Yuanbian, a great connoisseur, collector and painter during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, said, "The beauty of Xuan Fu is that the precious color is in the pearl light, and the light and muteness are revealed."

The Xuande furnace in front of me is in an ancient style. The whole furnace body is like a dragon coiled in the clouds. The lines are smooth and beautiful, and the color is dim and there is a slight clear light. It is held in my hand as warm as jade, but the weight is extremely heavy. Although Fan Wubing cannot be sure whether this is the real product, his intuition tells him that this thing is definitely not the counterfeit products circulating everywhere on the market.

What made Fan Wubing even more excited was that the furnace had ears on it, but it was not a simple style, but it was still in the shape of an animal head. The design was very clever, the furnace had a gold craft on it, the furnace foot was regular, the marks below were clear and exquisite, and the weight was more than ten pounds. If Fan Wubing had not been inferred by common sense, he would not be able to hold the incense burner.

"Hongxiu Tianxiang is studying at night, but I don't know whether the incense burner is used for incense or for sacrifices. If it is used for royal sacrifices, its value will be immeasurable." Fan Wubing looked at it for a long time but could not deduce what happened. After Mosuo for a while, he reluctantly put the incense burner away, turned his head to carefully examine other objects.

"Uh, what is this?" Fan Wubing suddenly found a wooden photo frame among a lot of supplies. However, the photo frame looked very thick and a bit bulky. The portrait inside was naturally the standard image of the leader, and the glass on the surface had long disappeared.

When Fan Wubing saw this thing, he couldn't help but be stunned. He held it in his hand and weighed it. He felt it was very important. Because his body was really small now, the photo frame was held in his hand and seemed to be holding something huge. He shook it up and down, feeling something moving inside.

It seems that something really is inside! Fan Wubing realized that there must be a mezzanine inside the photo frame, so he couldn't help but look forward to it, so he turned the photo frame over and lay it flat, and then lifted out the small shoe nails embedded on the back.

After uncovering the fiberboard on the back, there was indeed a relatively thick space, with a tart cloth wrapped inside, which looked thick and weighed about two pounds.

"What kind of treasure will it be?" Fan Wubing was a little excited and carefully opened the tart cloth bag and spread it flat on the ground. He saw a lot of colorful things appearing inside.

"Oh, my God! It's really a good thing!" Fan Wubing's eyes lit up immediately when he saw it, and his breathing temporarily paused. If there were someone else in the room, he would definitely hear his heart beating.
