Chapter 532: Ironclad evidence
Grand Bright Cinema.
"Hurry, someone fainted again. Hurry."
The urging voices came faster and faster.
faint?
Can you faint while watching a movie?
I felt that the foreigners here were looking at each other, not knowing what movie was being shown inside or why such a scene was happening.
"Ladies and gentlemen."
Moyes cleared his throat and said: "I am also very curious about what happened inside. To solve this mystery, I think we should go in and take a look."
So, this group of people walked into the Great Guangming Cinema...
…
Sobbing, screaming, and even wailing sounded one after another in the cinema.
Some people looked at it and suddenly fainted.
Even among those well-informed reporters, some would suddenly run to a corner and vomit profusely.
A diplomat's wife just walked into the cinema, glanced at the big screen, and suddenly let out a sharp and terrifying scream.
No one blames her, because such screams are so normal here...
…
Ma Guisheng's tears kept flowing.
He didn't even know how he controlled his emotions.
He thought it was a tragedy for a little person like himself to live to this day.
But at this time he knew that compared with the Nanjing people who suffered terrible suffering in the film, he was so happy.
At least, he is still alive.
Meng Shaoyuan next to him was also crying.
No one has ever seen Meng Shaoyuan cry.
But now he is really crying.
He knew that these films existed, but it was the first time in his life that he saw what was on them.
He thought his psychology was strong enough, and he thought he was prepared.
However, when he saw the video with his own eyes, he realized that in the face of real human tragedies, the so-called strong psychology is simply vulnerable!
And these precious films have gone through so many hardships...
…
Miss Leicester, a female British missionary, bravely brought the videos to Japan. She naively thought that if some Christian and political leaders in Japan could see these videos, they might help stop the atrocities.
She did show the film to a small group of Christian leaders in Tokyo, but her actions were quickly banned and the film's whereabouts are unknown.
The film provided to German diplomat Rosen was almost unknown to anyone for half a century.
In the United States, in early March 1938, Fitch arrived in California from Nanjing. He screened Magee's film at a lecture and accepted an interview with the Los Angeles Times. In April, Fitch was in Washington for the U.S. Congress.
The film was screened by the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, the Wartime Intelligence Service, journalists, etc. In addition, he also spoke about the film to quite a few churches and government agencies.
Later, the scenes in the film were reproduced into photos, and 10 of them were published in the American "Life" magazine published in May 1938. This was the world's first true report in the media to publicly expose the atrocities of the Japanese Nanjing Massacre.
In May of the same year, Magee temporarily returned to the United States for a vacation and brought back a more complete film, which he also screened in churches and other places.
Unfortunately, for most Americans, this film is too scary, and people often faint when seeing the atrocities, which also limits the spread of the film.
Decades later, the Rosen Report stored in the Potsdam Archives in Berlin, Germany, was discovered.
In this report, written on February 10, 1938, Rosen not only discussed Magee's films and requested that these materials be closely protected, but the report also included a detailed and unsigned catalog of footage from the films in English.
.
Rosen even specifically requested that the film be shown to "Hit" Teller because "this is a shocking document of the times."
The Rosen Report quickly attracted the attention of the Japanese media. However, because the actual film was not discovered at the same time, the Japanese refused to acknowledge the existence of the film and even slandered it as a "ghost film."
China and Japan are completely racing against time to find these films.
Thanks to Magee's son, David Magee, who finally found these films and the camera that were used in the basement. Although they are fifty years old, the quality of the films is still very good and can be played normally.
Thanks to David Magee for generously donating these precious films and cameras to China!
The Nanjing Massacre, from now on, there is irrefutable evidence!
…
I am even more grateful to John Magee who shot these videos. Please also remember his last will and testament:
"If I live again, I will still serve the Chinese people. China is my home."
…
But now, all the regrets have disappeared with the appearance of Meng Shaoyuan!
These videos are shocking and scary.
But you don’t have to wait until decades to see the light of day again.
Japan cannot be denied.
Whether it is now or in the future.
Meng Shaoyuan burst into tears.
He found that all his efforts and contributions were so worth it at this moment...
…
"Some Japanese soldiers came, some of them looked like wild animals. I was supporting a poor wounded soldier. He stepped forward in pain. A Japanese dragged him away from me and violently twisted his injured neck.
Tie his hands together, and tie the hands of the other wounded man together..."
Commentaries kept appearing there:
"We met an angry officer at the door. I had never seen such a man before! His voice sounded like a barking dog. If I were flammable, he looked like he was going to kill me.
Burn.
The horror of the past week has been like nothing I have ever experienced. I never dreamed that the Japanese soldiers could be so barbaric. This has been a week of massacre and brutality.
I think such a cruel thing has not happened in human history for a long time. Only the massacre of Armenians by the Turks can be compared...
Chinese women knelt down and begged Japanese soldiers not to kill their sons and husbands, who were ruthlessly driven together simply because they were suspected of being soldiers.
Thousands of civilians were also tied up with ropes in this way and driven to the banks of the Yangtze River in Xiaguan, to numerous small ponds and open fields, where they were shot with machine guns, hacked with bayonets, fired with rifles, and even
Executed with grenades..."
…
As the third roll of film was shown, the screams and vomiting disappeared.
Everyone was there quietly watching the video.
In the cinema, there was a terrible, deathly silence.
Almost everyone's eyes were filled with tears.
Chinese, foreigner.
Wu Jingyi's body was trembling.
She thought she was strong, but she found out she was wrong.
I am so fragile.
Cai Xuefei had to pinch her claws with her nails desperately to ensure that she would not faint.
She couldn't bear to continue reading, but she forced herself to continue reading.
She must remember these firmly and not forget even a single bit.
Xu Zhu always thought that he was an emotionless person, but now he found that this idea was so ridiculous.
Sinclair covered his mouth, his hands trembling.
He would rather interrogate a hundred of the most difficult prisoners, but he really couldn't bear to see this scene again.
Moyes and Xie Weisi, two men, never imagined that they would be so sad when they cried...
…
The three rolls of film were finally finished.
Each volume is 37 minutes, totaling 111 minutes.
…
Meng Shaoyuan stood up slowly.
In his day, it was even difficult to find a 105-minute version. The version that George Fitch risked his life to bring out was only 11 minutes per volume.
And now I have eight rolls of film in my hands.
And Kodak Shanghai Company has promised to help him make a large number of copies.
The whole world should know what happened in Nanjing!
Solid evidence!
…
The movie ended and there was still no sound.
No one got up and left.
Everyone sat there silently, silently looking at the empty screen.
Tears and sadness are the only ones here.
"I am Xie Weisi, Deputy Consul General of the Consulate General of the United States of America in Shanghai, the Republic of China."
Xie Weisi had to use great perseverance to control himself before he could slowly walk to the front. His voice was extremely clear in the cinema:
"Today, every word I say does not represent the consulate or the United States of America, but represents myself.
Just now, we saw the bloodiest, most tragic, and ugliest scene in human history. Before coming here, I was attending a reception held by the Japanese Consulate, where we also saw some photos.
How the Chinese welcomed the Japanese, and how the Japanese treated the Chinese well. But when I came here and saw these videos with my own eyes, I was sure that everything was a lie!
The Japanese and the whole world told a huge lie. They massacred unarmed civilians. They were committing the most despicable crime in human history, but they tried every means to lie and cover it up.
Everyone here today is a witness. We have witnessed a piece of history. Even though we want to forget it, we should never forget it. Even our descendants should not forget it.
We couldn't stop the war, and we couldn't stop the Japanese from continuing their atrocities, but we could at least tell everyone we knew what we saw.
Please remember Nanjing, please remember those who died. I suggest that we pay silent tribute to Nanjing."
He lowered his head first.
Everyone stood up and lowered their heads.
"Please remember, don't forget it at all!"
When the moment of silence ended, Xie Weisi raised his head and his voice suddenly rose:
"Shameless atrocities, ugly Japan, suffering China. Please do our best to help this country, maybe our abilities are limited. Thank you to the heroes who shot these videos and brought them out to the public! Please use your
Power, spread the content in the film, and let every corner of the world know about the tragedies that happened in Nanjing, China!"
Chapter completed!
