Chapter 61 Siege One

On the fourth day of the besieged Fort Wiscari, this was the day when the Venetians were preparing to launch a general attack on the castle, and before that, the storm had no signs at all.

The world was as quiet as the morning air was filled with the dew mixed with the smell of plants and trees last night. Although Fort Wiscarri was besieged, the Venetians kept holding their troops, but the smell of smoke was much lighter than before.

The soldiers guarding the city looked at the distant horizon with expressionless faces. Although they were very nervous in the past few days, the siege of the Venetians had already made them lose patience. The tense nerves eventually led to a numbness.

Although the water source was cut off and there was not much food, the nobles of Moria had been blocking the news, and they could be promoted, so many people in the city were optimistic that the Venetians would choose to give up after a few days of siege.

But what happened next undoubtedly proved that what the nobles made was a very stupid and terrible decision.

The fog rolled in the early morning, and a huge shadow appeared in the middle of the fog sea, which attracted the attention of the soldiers on the city wall. The black shadow in the distance was getting closer and closer, and the atmosphere suddenly became a little nervous.

"What's going on?"

"What's that?"

In the mist, the fully armed Venetian army gradually came. They were lined up in an orderly manner, looking like a black iron wall from a distance. The soldiers held spears and halberds in their hands, and behind them were huge sieges, slowly advancing. At the same time, the towering siege tower was exposed to the Byzantine vision.

Seeing all this, the officer guarding the city subconsciously took a breath and couldn't help but exclaim.:

"O my God! Is this trying to conquer the walls of Babylon?"

His words were naturally exaggerated, but looking at the siege equipment used by the Venetians, the officer immediately realized that the Venetians must have made a big move this time, and he immediately ordered his troops to prepare for battle.

"Arrow ready!"

"Everyone picked up the weapons in his hands!"

"The warning bell rings, and the Venetians are siegeing the city!"

Immediately, amid the command, the defenders on the city took up their weapons, and the guard bell rang, and the whole city's military and civilians put down their work at the same time. The civilians were dispersed and hid under their own roofs and prayed for God's blessing. The army in the city immediately picked up the guys in their hands to fight the upcoming attack.

And under the city, in front of the battle formation of the Venetian army, Ranieri had made all preparations. He looked at the Byzantines in the city in a hurry and sneered on his face.

So the man turned his head and turned to his subordinates behind him and ordered: "Let our most elite soldiers come to the Greeks. I hope that the boulders we transported from Crete will surprise them."

"Do you show these stupid Greeks the power and range of our trespassers? I understand, Lord Ranieri." Maximilian nodded and responded.

"Let them know that even behind the walls we can bring death to them," said Ranieri. "There will be no result of unnecessary resistance. A mere castle is not worth mentioning, and even the walls of Constantinople have to surrender to us."

"Long live Saint Mark!"

"Long live Saint Mark!"

Ranieri's arrogant spirit infected everyone in front of the army. The Venetians who made a war cry roared and knocked on the shield with the weapons in their hands, making a crisp sound. The next moment, the catapulted stone squad sounded, and the heavy stone bullets immediately shot towards Fort Wiscari, which was not ready to defend.

After several consecutive times, there was a loud noise of something collapsing from Fort Wiscarri. It was obvious that the Venetian catapult hit the target, which made the soldiers of the manipulating catapults on the position cheer.

On the other side, the huge power of the catapult also made Byzantium frightened. The huge rock just now flew over the head, causing the defenders behind the city wall to lie on the ground in fear. Looking at the several houses behind them being razed to the ground by the huge rocks, the civilians who were killed and injured were calling out, but instead aroused their shared hatred for the enemy. But as the Venetian siege tower advanced, everyone was frightened from the bottom of their hearts, and no one even dared to pull the bow and arrow in their hands.

Just as these complex moods were intertwined, a young voice rang in their ears.

"What are you still hesitating? Have you forgotten who was the one who humiliated your country a year ago? The Venetians who seized our precious Constantinople have attacked, but you are timid!"

The boy in a ragged chain armor walked up to the wall with contempt in his voice, but all the Byzantine soldiers recognized him.

It was Justinian, the governor of Molia who had already known to everyone in the army. At the first moment, the young nobleman rushed to the dangerous front. Justinian's face was full of contempt,

"I am the Anatolians who are disobedient in your eyes, and you are the Morians who claim to be noble and civilized. But I dare to fight the Latins. What about you? Do you still want to be driven away like a betrayal dog like the battle of the Olive Grove?" Justinian's words undoubtedly humiliated everyone present.

A soldier got on the horse without wearing a helmet, and the two archers stood up without saying a word. More and more people gathered around Justinian. The Byzantine army, who was afraid of the Venetians, had regained morale, and when he looked at this scene, Justinian, who used the stimulus method, nodded immediately.

"Very well, at least you have understood what honors you have," Justinian looked at them. "I will not shout long live the empire this time, and I am not fighting for the damn nobles. I should have been in the north instead of fighting with you in unlucky ways, and you are the same, because the Venetians are going to rob your city and kill your relatives, just like everything they did in Constantinople. And now we are grasshoppers on a rope, so we either wait to die or come with me.
