Chapter 33 Prime Minister in Black

Yunshui is a kind of traveling costume, and the monk is a wonderful person.

For his employer Shigetaro Eki, when he was young, Monk Shunian might not be someone he wanted to associate with, but now, their friendship has become increasingly deeper.

Hantaro was born as a feudal doctor, but he was famous for his Confucianism. As Westerners invaded the country many times with warships, Hantaro, as an orthodox Confucian scholar, had to work hard to learn Western skills. It is easy to understand the pain of this ideological change.

It's like learning a foreign language for future generations. If you don't start from elementary school, whoever learns it will know the pain.

What’s even more torturous is that Confucianism focuses on morality, while Western studies put practicality first. This is like a later Huaiyang cuisine master who accidentally became the chef of a French restaurant. Everything he does feels awkward.

As a side servant and the mastermind of the daimyo, Shitaro wanted to praise the overall situation of the feudal government, so he had to compromise with the reality. This was both lucky and unfortunate - luck means that you can open your eyes to see the world, but if it doesn't work, then the world is not beautiful.

In the tide of the Tokugawa shogunate, the Tokugawa shogunate was on the verge of collapse, and the order that had been maintained so painstakingly for hundreds of years began to fall apart.

Everything is changing, and no one can tell what the future will be like. Keeping up with the times is easier said than done.

The appearance of monk Xiunian brought relief to Shitaro:

When you are struggling in a dilemma, it is such a blessing to have someone who can point out a "clear way" in advance.

And what's even better is that Xiunian can often hit the nail on the head when it comes to thinking, and the contradiction between Confucianism and Western theory can no longer be tortured - but Shitaro did not find that "from Confucianism to New Confucianism, and then to Western Enlightenment thought"

"Guide", Xiunian wanted to change him step by step.

Of course, it is not easy to convince an old fox like Shitaro who has seen and eaten before.

Things that are not easy are worth doing!

If "carrying on the peerless world, revitalizing and destroying the country, and raising the people" is the ambition of politicians like Jiang Mu, then "becoming an ancestor" is the monk's highest dream - Xiu Nian is a monk, and this was also his ambition

!

Shunian was born in Kan'ei Temple in Ueno, Edo, and was a direct disciple of the old resident priest.

Speaking of which, Kan'ei-ji Temple is amazing. Not only is it the headquarters of the Tendai Sect in Kanto, it is also one of the Bodhi-ji Temples of the Tokugawa family. Five previous lords were enshrined here after their deaths.

The relationship between Kan'eiji Temple and the Tokugawa family began with the first generation resident, who was the famous "Tenkai" - Tenkai was trusted by Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate. It is said that he not only gave advice to Ieyasu, but also personally helped him

He traveled around to reconcile the four directions. Tianhai lived a long life. After that, he served the second and third generations of shoguns, and was highly respected by all of them.

Tianhai was known as the "Prime Minister in Black" due to his high position and influence on the shogunate government.

Xiunian grew up listening to the stories of his ancestors. Nannian admired the master of Nanguangfang very much. When he was a high-spirited young man, he also thought that he would meet the master and guide the country.

But fate is unpredictable. After the death of the old resident, his direct disciples were suppressed. Xiunian was valued by the temple for his intelligence since he was a child. He could not bear this, so he simply separated the family - in the fourth year of Jiayong (1851),

He took some of his people to the Northern Ezo Territory and went to his childhood friend, the then White Lord Daikan Hori Naohide.

At this time, Xiu Nian's life idol should no longer be the great monk Zheng Tianhai, but should be replaced by the Zen Master Yixiu - why can't he point out that a happy life in Jiangshan is also good?

According to Xiu Nian's idea, he gave Nao Hide timely help - he brought hundreds of immigrants, and with the friendship between the two in the past, at least in the White Lord, Xiu Nian was undoubtedly the "Great Monk Zheng". Although there were fewer people, he was "Ning Ning".

For the chicken head instead of the phoenix tail?"

Moreover, he also had a vague hope that the whole process of Naoxiu's fortune was in Xiunian's eyes. If Naohsiu soared into the sky in the future, first in front of this dashing Zen Master Ikkyu, the powerful Master Nanguangbo might not have no chance in the future.

.

Of course, he didn't expect Naohide to be Mr. Ieyasu. As the saying goes, everything in the bowl is filled with vegetables, so it's okay for him to follow the example of Tokoku.

Xiunian didn't know that Naoxiu had clearly arranged his future - even if Xiunian failed, if he changed to another monk or to several dozen monks, Naoxiu would still have to find the person he wanted.

At the end of the Tokugawa shogunate, the banner of honoring the king and repelling the barbarians was "restoration of royal government" and "revival of divine martial arts".

The "Shenwu" here refers to the legendary founding emperor of Fusang. His political characteristics, in addition to "wise and holy martial arts", are "protection by all gods" - all mythological figures are like this, not that the great god protects him.

, that is, saying that he is the emperor, the son of god, etc., in order to elevate his status so that he will not be questioned.

Because the Fuso royal family has been mythologized for thousands of years, and their ancestors have been regarded as the source of Fuso Shinto. This "restoration of royal government" and "revival of Shenwu" is of course inseparable from the support of the basic "Shinto".

But the support is mutual, so after the victory of Zun Wang against the foreigners, in return, Shinto began to become the state religion of Fuso - some people who brought their own dry food were hidden by flying birds, but this time it didn't work. After all, they had to rely on Shinto to continue to support the royal family.

Where's the sedan?

But how can there be any interest in the world without an owner?

With the prosperity of Shinto, the Buddhists who were almost unified in Fusang would naturally be severely suppressed.

Speaking of which, "the opponent's opponent is the helper". Zhixiu's capital was not much, so he could only borrow strength from everywhere. He had to use the ready-made Buddha's thick legs no matter what.

Therefore, as soon as Monk Xiunian arrived in the Northland in 1851, the arrangements were made clear - he was deceived by Naoxiu into boarding a pirate ship bound for Mizhou.

"It's different, it's different."

By the time Xiunian reluctantly returned to Bai Zhu in 1854, his horizons had been broadened. The scenery of Qiezhidan in the West was beyond what Tianhai, the leader of Nanguangfang, could compare with. Even though it was somewhat in decline now, Xiunian's heart was still there.

The sky is not that big.

In the United States at that time, Naoxiu's arrangement for Xiunian was, "I have enough money to eat, drink and have fun, but there is only one thing: I have to go to the seminary, and I don't have to miss a day of class."

Xiunian was originally a disciple of the Tiantai Sect - if his master had not had a health accident during his old career, it would not have been impossible for him to take over the Kanyong Temple. Now that Fuso and Western theology have merged, this Xiunian is even more remarkable.

But Naohide was uneasy, fearing that something might happen in the future, so he suppressed him for three full years. It was not until 1857 that Xiunian's new teachings were fully integrated, and he was allowed to officially establish a sect and found the Northern Song Dynasty.

Tiantai branch of the earth.

During the Edo period, Buddhist sects were divided into three levels: Honzan, Maindera and Modera. The Honzan was in charge of the main temple, and the maindera was in charge of the last temple.

It stands to reason that Xiunian's small temple is at the level of the Moji Temple, but when he left Kanyong Temple, his post was very eager to send the God of Plague away. He was afraid that he would find it too poor in the North, so in addition to letting him take away some people, he also sent

He gave him the title of "our temple" - it cost a lot of money. What if he regrets his return and refuses to leave? Or if he sneaks back in two days, that would be unbearable.

Kan'eiji Temple is the headquarter of the Tendai Sect in Kanto. It is easy to throw out the "main temple", and it can quite appease the old residents, so it can be said to be a benefit at no cost.

It stands to reason that Xiu Nian was only twenty-six years old in 1851, so it was difficult for him to wear the title of a resident of the temple. However, he had been raised in the temple since he was a child, and he was a senior resident, so he came out as a "school head".

In this case, there is no seat that can be occupied - the headmaster of the Tiantai Sect is not the leader of the students, but a type of monk, indicating the authority to expound the meaning of the scriptures.

This is a wonderful opening, which means that no one dares to care about how Xiu Nian interprets Buddhist scriptures. Unless a higher-ranking boss of Tiantai Sect appears, others can disagree but cannot question it face to face. To put it bluntly, the headmaster in Tiantai Sect is

With a reputation, outsiders questioning Xiunian is questioning the Tiantai Sect, which can easily lead to fights between sects.

Originally, the teachings of Tiantai Sect in Fuso were quite flexible, and it was one of the earliest sects to propose the "integration of gods and Buddhas". Tiantai Shinto in Shinto was separated from it.

What is "the combination of gods and Buddhas"?

The combination of gods and Buddhas is also called "local traces", which means that these gods in Fusang are all the incarnations of Buddhas in Fusang. In this case, everyone is good to me, because the gods and Buddhas they believe in are actually the same one.

.

With such a flexible tradition, Xiunian's update of teachings would naturally be much smoother - Naohide shouted, "It's so smooth." If it weren't for the remote Northland monastery covering the sky, and the Kan'ei Temple acting as an agent for the sales of Northland specialties in Edo

, everyone from top to bottom has benefited a lot from it. You, Xiunian, have long been taken back to Edo and expelled from the sect.

Relying on the support of Dafa and its practice, by 1858, the Hakushu Senkaji Temple founded by Shunen had basically unified the Ezo and Northern Ezo lands. By the time Naohide became the Hakodate priest, his status was already unshakable.

.

Then, as the trade between Hakodate and other places continued to develop, monks from the Ezo Tendai Sect also began to appear in various places in Fuso:

In April of the summer of the second year of Ansei (1855), the shogunate "ordered Date Keibo, Satake Yoshimu, and Tsugaru to send troops to garrison Ezo and Hakodate."

On June 2, the sixth year of Ansei (July 1, 1859), Nagasaki, Kanagawa (Yokohama), and Hakodate opened trade with foreign countries.

In September of the sixth year of Ansei (1859), Edo again "ordered Date Keibo, Hoshiko Yoshiho, Minami Riko, Satake Yoshinori, Tsugaru Seiretsu, and Sakai Tadahiro to help cultivate the Ezo land."

As long as you can come and go, Xiunian's disciples began to travel around.

In fact, Xiunian has so many disciples, many of them are members of the Zhixiu line.

Moreover, because monks have some privileges and the temple community has relatively strict control over the ultimatum, the team sent by Lord Bai is often composed of one monk and several apprentices in various configurations, commonly known as one dragging several.

It stands to reason that under the shogunate system, this monk was not welcome to wander around. At that time, the temple invitation system was implemented, that is, everyone must have a temple to which they belonged, and the household registration of civilians was actually managed by the temple. Therefore, the household registration of civilians was actually managed by the temple.

, in fact, the missionary territory was divided into pieces. It was all divided into pieces, and monks were running around. What do you want to do if you can't teach?

Of course, this kind of traveling practice is also possible, but after all, it is unprofitable, and it is regarded as an evil act by local temples, so not many monks travel.

The most common foreign monks at that time were the nihilistic monks of the Puhua sect and the priests of the Grand Shrine. The nihilistic monks were practicing in the name of warriors, but in fact there were many ronin, bandits and other lawless people who took false ultimatums and took advantage of the opportunity.

; Most of the priests are from major shrines, selling talismans everywhere or urging people to travel to major shrines to worship.

Both of these are not very popular with the local officials. One is causing trouble openly, and the other is inciting the residents to travel, so they will be expelled or arrested when they see it - but the management of agricultural society is not strict, and the security force is not strong, so

There are still many fish slipping through the net.

Compared with these monks and priests, the monks of Xianxia Temple, the White Master of Tiantai Sect, are much more popular.

The reasons are: firstly, the monks of Xianxia Temple never ask for alms and do not give anything; secondly, they never preach in public, do not ask questions and never talk about doctrines.

Some words to encourage people to do good; most importantly, these people are of great benefit to the local area. They not only practice medicine at low prices, but also promote agriculture and spread improved seeds.

Of course, you can’t carry much of this high-quality variety with you, but I can tell you where to buy it.

As time went by, in addition to the citizens, even warriors, temples and merchants from all over the country welcomed him:

The reason why samurai are welcomed is very simple. They treat diseases for free or at low prices, especially the method of recuperating babies at Xianxia Temple, and the way of raising children is very magical - of course, it is inevitable that monks are proficient in this, which will make people daydream, but people say that this is

I am just promoting the achievements of Beidi Medical Center. This makes sense. No matter how you say it, having a son and raising a son are the most important things.

The level of medical care at that time was very poor, and the infant mortality rate was extremely high. Moreover, the economy was getting worse and worse, and samurai families were also affected. They could not afford to have more children, so they had to have only one child, and they had to live on it - an average of two

It takes three children for one child to successfully grow up. This is the case for daimyo, samurai, and commoners.

What about "pregnancy period" and "knee-chest lying corrective exercises"? It's really a miracle at this time. In addition, I was given a parenting manual by a barefoot doctor. If I don't respect the master anymore, my brain is damaged.

In addition to the above benefits, villagers (village chiefs), temples, and merchants from all over the country can also obtain new agricultural knowledge, commodity channels, and craftsmanship. Naturally, monks who are keen on Xianxia Temple will also visit.

Of course, it is not easy for the Naohsiu family to cultivate these talents, so they pay special attention to safety - not only travel in groups, but also visit powerful people first. After receiving asylum, they do not go to various places casually, but try to train downlines in the local area. Anyway, books

It's clearly written on it. Besides, if you want to travel to more places, there aren't enough manpower in the Northland.

In any case, by 1860, the reputation of Tendai Sect Hakushu Senkaji Temple was getting bigger and bigger, and the scope of activities became wider and wider. From the original Higashiyama Dou where Mutsu and Mutsu were located, it had spread to Sanyo Dou.

The Bingo Fukuyama Domain has a giant Buddha like Abe Isemori, so naturally it needs powerful people to take action - Shunen: Who else could it be besides me?

In the autumn of the fifth year of Ansei (1858), the old feudal lord Abe returned to this place. Shunian, who was visiting Kan'ei Temple in Edo at that time, heard the news and came with him.

But after two years of hooking up, Mitsuhide ran away five times in person this time, but he only had friendship with his side servant Eki Shitaro, while Abe Isemaru never met.

This result is heartbreaking.

Seeing Shitaro nodding slightly to himself, Xiunian clasped his hands in salute and thought, "Now that the shogunate is in such chaos, I wonder what the Bingo Fukuyama clan has planned. What is the plan of the former chief, Lao Naka Abe? I hope this
