Chapter five hundred and sixty-six, those who are destined to get it

"Senior Brother Haitong, are you going to do this to me even after you die?" Demonic Monk Fanjie stood up and took a deep breath.

Xiao Lili was shocked when she heard these words.

Demon monk Fan Jie actually calls monk Haitong his senior brother?

You must know that Monk Haitong lived in the early Kaiyuan years of the Tang Dynasty, but the legend about the demon monk Fan Jie dates from the late Qing Dynasty.

Xiao Lili also understood a little at this time, why after the demon monk Fan Jie brought her in, he didn't take a fork in the road until he reached the dark room at the bottom.

Speaking of which, this Fan Jie is indeed from the Tang Dynasty.

This matter has to start with Monk Haitong.

Monk Haitong was born in Bozhou, Qianzhong Road (now Zunyi City, Guizhou Province) in the early years of the Kaiyuan period of the Tang Dynasty. His real name was Qinglian, which means "the lotus emerges from the mud but remains unstained".

He became a monk at the age of twelve and studied under the eminent monk Huijing. He left his master at the age of twenty-four and traveled around the world.

Fan Jie was indeed his junior brother, and he had admired Monk Haitong since he was a child.

Later, monk Haitong passed by Jiazhou (today's Leshan) at that time and saw that the Minjiang River, Qingyi River, and Dadu River converged on Lingyun Mountain. Floods were a disaster, so he began to think about suppressing floods.

Subsequently, skilled craftsmen were summoned and construction of the Leshan Giant Buddha began.

Maitreya Buddha was worshiped in the Tang Dynasty. Buddhist scriptures say that when Maitreya is born, "the world will be at peace."

The imperial court at that time strongly supported the Leshan Giant Buddha and even sent huge sums of money.

Later, the Jiazhou County Sheriff heard that Monk Haitong was in charge of a large amount of wealth, so he came with his entourage to ask for it.

Faced with this threat, Monk Haitong said categorically: "One's own eyes can be cut out, but Buddha's wealth is rare!"

Haitong's arrogance and contempt angered the money-grubbing county governor. He did not believe that anyone would have the guts to gouge out his own eyes.

He said angrily: "Then dig it out and take a look!"

Haitong sat cross-legged majestically, picked up a copper plate, without hesitation, took out one of his own eyes and placed it on it, then silently raised it in front of the governor.

Suddenly, the county guard turned pale with fright. He was so frightened that he lost his mind and fled down the mountain in a hurry.

Haitong's self-sacrifice and righteousness moved the world and inspired people's determination to build the Buddha.

And Fan Jie later left the mountain and defected to the very powerful monk Haitong at that time.

Not every monk is as strong-willed as Haitong.

Fan Jie was just starting out at that time. When people learned that he was the junior disciple of Monk Haitong, they secretly flattered and encouraged him in various ways.

The meaning is very simple, let Fan Jie find a way to take away the place where Monk Haitong built the Buddha.

Although Fan Jie was just starting out and was tempted by the world of mortals, he had no intention of harming his senior brother.

It wasn't until later that the two of them had a chat.

Monk Haitong naturally knew that Fan Jie was encouraged and tempted by others, but instead of being tempted, Fan Jie refused righteously, which made Monk Haitong feel relieved a lot.

Haitong later found Fan Jie and said, "Junior brother, the world of mortals is dangerous."

This was originally intended to wake up the Buddhist precepts.

However, Fan Jie has long been infatuated with Hongchen and is unwilling to harm his senior brother because of their deep relationship.

Fan Jie replied: "Brother, why can't a monk enter the world of mortals? This wealth is in your hands, and it is better to use it to help the world than to cultivate something like this."

Haitong said: "The purpose of the giant Buddha to suppress floods is to save the world."

Fan Jie said: "Such a stone Buddha will collapse sooner or later, so what's the use?"

Haitong heard that Fan Jie's words were reasonable, but instead of giving up building the Buddha, he searched for eminent monks everywhere and built forty-nine dark chambers inside the Buddha, hoping to use these eminent monks to protect the Buddha from decay for thousands of years.

It happened that the Tang Dynasty worshiped Buddhism, and with the help of the whole country, there were only forty-nine enlightened monks.

Although this intention was good, in Fan Jie's mind, it became something else.

Fanjie believed that Haitong was acting as a charlatan for his own benefit and spent so much money to build such a big Buddha statue just to get himself a luxurious tomb.

Because of this incident, Fanjie and Haitong completely fell out, and Fanjie was subsequently driven away by Haitong.

Instead of repenting, Fan Jie started practicing evil Buddhist teachings.

Buddhism cultivates the afterlife, while evil Buddhism cultivates the present world.

Fan Jie believes that what will he be like in the next life, and what does it have to do with himself? Living well now is eternity.

Therefore, he constantly relied on other people's bodies to be reborn, and during the chaos of the late Qing Dynasty, he wanted to take advantage of the chaos to build his own Buddhist kingdom.

Although he failed in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, he now believes that as long as he obtains the relics of Monk Haitong, his Dharma can be greatly improved and his wishes can always be realized.

Fan Jie was sweating profusely as he sat in front of the bronze statue of the Eighteen Arhats. Xiao Lili couldn't help but said: "Master, did you just call Master Haitong, Senior Brother?"

Fan Jie did not reply, stood up, and looked at the body of Monk Haitong: "Senior brother, the facts have proven that you were wrong at the beginning. Even if you build such a huge giant Buddha, even if it does not fall for a thousand years, what about you? You are already dead.

What’s the point of taking so long?”

"Look at me, I'm living well now!" Fan Jie laughed, but his laughter was very guilty.

In fact, every few decades when Fan Jie is reborn, he will visit the Leshan Giant Buddha to see if it has collapsed.

But day after day, thousands of years have passed, and the Leshan Giant Buddha has never collapsed.

This made him question his own Dharma.

"Living is the foundation. What about the afterlife? Bah, that's the old monk's lie to the children. You believe it." Fan Jie said: "Finally, I will read the scripture again. If you don't give me the relics, I will give the other relics."

Take it away and see if your hard work will last forever!"

After saying that, Fanjie sat down cross-legged. After his face calmed down, he looked like an eminent monk. He slowly read the scriptures.

Xiao Lili listened with some obsession.

In fact, every time Fan Jie recited sutras, Xiao Lili would listen, but every time after listening, the hatred in her heart would become deeper.

This may also be because Fan Jie practiced evil Buddhism. If Fan Jie practiced orthodox Buddhism and Xiao Lili listened to him chanting sutras every day, I am afraid that the hatred in her heart would have been put down long ago.

Listening to the continuous flow of scriptures, Xiao Lili also sat next to Fan Jie and listened quietly.

After a long time, Fan Jie stopped chanting sutras. He opened his eyes, looked at the barrier that still existed, and took a long breath: "Brother, it seems that you really still resent me? A relic, senior brother, so

You refused to give it to me for many years?"

Suddenly, the wind started blowing up in the originally peaceful dark room, and five words gathered in the sand underground.

"Those who are destined will get it."

When Fan Jie looked at it, his face turned pale and he spat out a mouthful of blood: "What a destined person to get it. I didn't want to kill you at the beginning. With such friendship, now it's not as good as a destined person?"

"It's hard to be precise about fate. Just like now, when we meet here, isn't it very fateful?"
