Chapter 28 Clover

When the earthquake struck, Clover's carriage happened to be driving on a bridge across the canal. She first felt the ground shake, and then the whole world suddenly became upside down.

The initial impact threw her out of the seat, and Clover slammed into the carriage door, followed by a deafening roar.

There were screams from all directions, and the voices of humans and horses could not even be distinguished. Clover groaned and crawled out of the deformed carriage, and found that both the driver and the horse had fallen into the canal, and the carriage she was riding in was stuck in the canal.

On the guardrail.

The shaking seemed to never stop. She clung to the ground and watched as the streets and houses were torn apart by the earthquake. The street she had just left had now turned into a rift valley. Dark green vines broke out of the ground.

Screams and cries rose and fell amid the loud noise of collapse...

Then, it suddenly ended. The ground stopped shaking. Clover struggled to get up, but her legs failed. A pair of hands reached under her armpits and lifted her up.

Standing up suddenly made her feel dizzy, and Clover cursed subconsciously.

"Ms. Clover, are you okay?" a man with an archipelago accent asked.

It's one of her guards, I can't remember the name. What a bunch of idiots. Where were you when the earthquake just happened?

"I'm fine." She cleared her throat, "Report the situation."

"Some brothers fell into the canal, as did the coachman and the horses..."

"Then rescue them quickly!" she shouted impatiently, "send someone back, I want to know the situation in the affected neighborhoods!"

While waiting, she rested against the stone pier at the head of the bridge and drank the fruit wine brought by the escort. The accompanying doctor performed a simple examination on her and confirmed that she only had some scratches and no broken bones.

Most people are not as lucky as her. Half of her guards fell into the water, and the remaining half were more or less lucky. Those who were still able to move were trying their best to help those in the water. Crowe

Fu saw her coachman lying on the horse with one leg twisted at an odd angle.

The news brought back by the spies made the fruit wine sour. The condition of the neighborhood was worse than she expected. Almost all the buildings were destroyed, the number of casualties was difficult to count, and the survivors were struggling to survive under the ruins.

Marron had known for a long time, Clover thought, that she just wanted to prevent this disaster. That biologist was probably just nonsense told by her and her companions, but the other things she said...

"The City Guard is rushing to the affected neighborhoods," the spy said. "What should we do?"

Yes, what should we do? Everyone has seen the excavation operations of the Port Authority. After the fear and shock, even the stupidest person can connect the Port Authority with the disaster.

What would the Master of the Harbor say? If the damage has been done, then we must try to control its impact... Yes, that's it. "How many of us are left capable of action?" she asked.

"When the last few brothers are rescued ashore, there should be about twenty of them able to leave." One of the guards replied.

She shook her head, "Just being able to walk is not enough. I need someone who can move. Those with minor injuries can be counted, but they must be strong. Go and call the doctor."

The doctor was a grumpy little man, and he was obviously quite dissatisfied with her call. He cursed all the way, and did not restrain himself even when he was in front of her: "Madam, your people call me over from the wounded. It's best if he

There's a damn good reason."

"Of course, what are the casualties?" Clover asked calmly, she knew how to deal with such people.

"Two people were seriously injured, but they were treated in time and they should not die. Almost everyone suffered minor injuries. There were also some who had just climbed out of the river and drank some water, but they were not fatal."

"Very good, how many people are still waiting for treatment?"

"There are five more. But I have to remind you, if you want me to leave you alone, even if it's just those with minor injuries, I'll give you a damn"

"Don't worry, Master Ellenwood, I won't ask you to give up any of the injured." Clover said, "In fact, I hope you will deal with their injuries as soon as possible and then select fifteen who can move."

People. I need them to go to the disaster-stricken neighborhoods to rescue the suffering civilians. Of course, you should go too."

The doctor stared at her with a gloomy face, and after a while he said, "Today's commission is doubled."

"Three times, as long as you can set off within five minutes."

He was much quieter when he returned.

Her thighs began to throb again, and Clover wanted to collapse on the ground and continue drinking. But now was not the time to rest.

She called the guard with an archipelago accent who helped her stand up, "Do we have any horses we can ride on?"

"Of course, ma'am, but"

"Stop talking nonsense, bring me here." She interrupted him impatiently, "What's your name?"

"Lucas, ma'am."

"Very good. Listen, Lucas, you have been promoted. I have to ride back to the port authority, so you will be responsible for commanding the scene. I need you to organize the evacuation of the wounded. Let them go by themselves for the slightly injured, and find someone for the seriously injured.

Lift it up. And don't stay here for too long, because the earthquake may not be over yet. Don't look confused, you are the commander now."

Lucas accepted the order with a confused look on his face and went to lead the horse at her urging. He obviously had no experience in command and organization, but Clover knew he would find a way.

Not long after, a dozen guards hired by the doctor gathered in front of her. Clover secretly praised Master Ellenwood's craftsmanship. Everyone was treated appropriately, and their actions were not affected by bandages.

She took a few steps in front of them, making sure that everyone's attention was focused on her: "Listen, gentlemen. You have a new mission. The City Guard may have entered the affected neighborhood, so the Port Authority cannot

Fall behind. You need to return to the neighborhood you just came from, but don't get close to the central area affected by the disaster. Prioritize the rescue of our own workers. If you see civilians on the road, go and help if it's not troublesome."

"What if we encounter a seriously injured person?" asked the little Allen Wood.

"Pray a few words to the gods for him." Clover said, "Only save the slightly injured people who can be saved, focusing on your own people. Also, for the sake of the gods, don't involve yourselves.

I don’t want to write a death report!”

After they left, Lucas brought the horse. With his help, Clover got on the horse and then rode towards the port authority.

The saddle was a little loose, making the run extremely bumpy. Her thighs hurt as if they were burning. It was a miracle she didn't fall off the horse.

When she finally arrived at the square outside the port authority, Clover's mouth was dry and her whole body ached. She handed her horse to the guard guarding the gate and asked another to run to notify the harbor master.

Not long after they left, two strangers in thick cloaks suddenly rushed up and blocked her way. "Madam, please come with us," one person whispered.

Clover didn't know them. She took a step back warily, "Who are you? I don't."

They stretched out their hands to her. One of them restrained her resistance, and the other covered her mouth with a cloth. Because she had just been injured and had to ride a horse for a while, Clover didn't have much strength left... However,

She still raised her boots and stepped on someone's feet.

The man groaned in pain, but did not let go. Ordinary gangsters could not do this. She realized that these people were experienced experts.

The piece of cloth covering her mouth had a faint sweet smell, like some kind of alchemical potion. Soon her limbs felt weak and her senses became dull.

They dragged her away from the gate of the Port Authority. Clover thought hard, trying to remember who she had offended... The Master of the Port had many enemies, and she happened to be his confidant...

She was taken away from the square, then dragged into an alley, and finally came to a dark warehouse. The room was empty, with a chair placed among the discarded packaging boxes.

Clover watched helplessly as they tied her to the chair. She wanted to speak but couldn't. She had inhaled so much of the potion that it was difficult to stay awake.

Fortunately, the leader of the kidnappers did not keep her waiting long. He was a young man with short military hair, a dark complexion, and a tense expression. After he came in, he gestured to his subordinates, walked forward alone, and said,

She took a sip of some kind of spicy potion.

The feeling of powerlessness and dullness quickly faded away. Clover blinked and saw clearly who was coming. It turns out that it is you.

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Kostadmesser." She forced a smile, "If I had known that you were so enamored with me, I would have invited you to come home with me. Why make the date so mysterious? These people

Are they the waiters and chefs you invited?"

"Stop your nonsense, ma'am," said the apprentice assessor. "Where's Percy Oren?"

She put on the innocent expression she had practiced many times and said, "Isn't he from your company?"

"He came to the port area yesterday afternoon. We found out that he entered the port authority and he has not come out until now." Costa said with a sullen face, "What did you do to him?"

"He's not at the Port Authority." At least not yet.

"Then where is he?"

"How do I know? Do you think I am a fortune teller? And even a fortune teller needs a crystal ball or tea leaves to work."

He took a step forward and said, "You and I both know exactly what the Port Authority is hiding. If this matter is not handled properly, it may turn into a disaster. So I suggest you don't use lies and nonsense to deal with me. Let's

If we cooperate well, we may be able to prevent the situation from getting worse."

It's too late, she thought to herself, a big mistake has been made. "Don't you know yet?"

"What should I know?"

She couldn't help laughing, "The underground garden has gotten out of control. An earthquake just occurred in the port area east of the canal, and the affected neighborhoods were destroyed by those elf vines..."

Costa's face twitched, "How can you laugh?"

"I'm laughing because of you," Clover replied. "You're lying in wait here, thinking you've taken the initiative, but you don't know that you're already several steps behind. Your partner is very foresighted, but she entered the game at the wrong time.

too late……"

"Marron? What's wrong with her?" The concern in his tone caught Clover's attention.

Ha, a breakthrough. "She took a biologist from the Grazo Institute of Nature, a man named Adarriff, to warn us before the incident happened."

A look of confusion flashed across his eyes, and Clover did not miss this detail. Even Costa didn't know it. It seemed that the biologist's story was indeed nonsense.

"Where is she now?" he asked.

How the hell do I know? "As far as I know, she is still in the disaster-stricken neighborhood." She lied without changing her face. "Didn't you just say you wanted to do something? In my opinion, this is what you should do.

."

He took a step back, and the look on his face became more gloomy. Clover was worried that she had gone too far because she didn't know this appraiser apprentice. Men like Percy Oren are easy to control, but this person in front of her

The retired soldier is very stubborn. If she misjudged the situation...

"You'd better not lie." He said suddenly.

She secretly breathed a sigh of relief, "You can verify my words, but you don't know how much time our Miss Marron has left."

He winked at his accomplices, and those people walked out of the warehouse one after another. Clover watched them leave silently, without letting herself show any expression.

"I will send someone to notify the port authority and tell them your location." Costa said before leaving.

"You want to leave me alone?" Clover said in shock, "At least untie me! Hey, you damn bastard! Don't pretend not to hear! Come back!"
