Chapter 5 Unexpected Turnaround

The day after being kidnapped by Thomas End for conversation, Shireen woke up half an hour earlier than usual. She was exhausted both physically and mentally, and her eyelids were so heavy that she seemed to have never slept.

At this time, it seemed like a wise choice to stay in bed and sleep a little longer. However, when she thought of yesterday's experience, her sleepiness suddenly disappeared.

It's all her damn curiosity. If Shirin hadn't turned into that alley at that time, the troubles plaguing her now would have been insignificant...

Of course it was inevitable to leave Huoyin City if she couldn't pay the citizen tax. But besides returning to her hometown to get married, she definitely had other options.

She can read and write, and has a junior accountant's qualification certificate. As long as she takes the time to ask, it shouldn't be difficult to find a position in the traveling caravan.

Life without a fixed home will naturally be more difficult than now, but at least she can still control her own life and live the life of her own choice.

However, last night's meeting completely eliminated this possibility.

Now she has become a pawn planted by Thomas Ende in the Avon Insurance Company, and is forced to play a role in his plan.

Even if she was lucky enough to successfully complete all the tasks assigned by Thomas End... After the incident was over, her chances of escaping unscathed were slim.

How could that man let her go?

Thinking of this, Shireen sighed involuntarily. She climbed out of bed, picked up the kettle and poured some water into the basin, and then began to wipe her body with a towel.

As a low-class commoner who barely manages to survive in the city, Shireen can only go to a public bathroom to take a hot bath once a week. In order to keep her body clean, wiping herself after getting up every day has become a very important task.

Halfway through wiping, she suddenly remembered the silver coins hidden under the bed. Shirin didn't even bother to put on her pajamas, and hurriedly knelt down and reached out to explore...Thank the gods, the handkerchief wrapped with the silver coins was still in the secret compartment.

She couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief and then took it out.

She found a piece of paper in the handkerchief, with a few neat lines of small words written on it:

"Miss Marlen, I know that you have encountered some financial difficulties, so I will leave this money to you as activity funds. Please try not to make me regret investing in you, the friendly Thomas Ende."

She was so angry that she tore the note into pieces and almost threw her handkerchief and silver coins out of the window. But she knew that if she really threw them away, she would have to run out to pick them up later.

She really needs this money. Tomorrow night at six o'clock is the deadline for citizenship tax, and she still has many bills to pay.

Now that she's been taken over by Tomas End, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with spending his money.

So she picked out the eight blood-free silver coins and put them carefully into her wallet. The money was enough for her to pay the citizen tax and rent arrears, and even buy some fresh meat and vegetables to improve her food. Although she hoped

Lin also borrowed a credit loan from the bank, but the repayment period was at the end of next week, when she had already received her salary.

After scrubbing her body, she put on a set of clean underwear, and then put on a formal dress. After briefly arranging her hair, Shireen opened the bedroom door and prepared to catch the public carriage.

Her roommate Moira was standing outside the door, seemingly still hesitating whether to knock on the door. Seeing Shireen push the door open by herself, she was visibly relieved.

"What's the matter?" Shireen asked.

Moira raised her eyebrows, "What do you think?" She is a typical local girl from Fire Seal City, with a slender figure and thick red curly hair.

"Stop it, Moira, I'm just going to catch the omnibus."

"What, are you still planning to go to work today?" Moira looked very happy, "Has the citizen tax issue been resolved?"

Shireen then remembered that she had spoken to Moira about the citizenship tax last week, but she had no idea that Moira would take it to heart.

Although they are roommates, they only share the same bathroom and living room, so their relationship is not too close.

The apartment where Shirin lives is called "Tulip", and it is one of the few female apartments in the harbor area. The residents are all young single women, and the monthly rent is about 20% higher than other nearby apartments.

Most of the girls living here are masters from the Fire Seal City Institute of Truth, and a small number are professional women with decent jobs. If conditions permit, Shirin is willing to continue living there.

However, four weeks ago, she suddenly received a letter from her half-sister, announcing that their father was about to be arrested and imprisoned due to debt issues. So Shireen sent all her savings back home, leaving only

Some necessary living expenses.

A week later, she remembered about the citizen tax, but by then it was too late. In the next two weeks, she tried almost every method, but she could never get the money for the citizen tax.

So on her rest day last weekend, she told Moira about her upcoming departure from Fire Seal City...

In fact, she just wanted to talk. Moira was four years younger than her and was still studying in the Institute of Truth. The relationship between the two of them was not good enough to lend six flas.

After experiencing what happened last night, Shirin knew that it was best for her to keep a distance from this young girl. So she said lightly: "Yeah, it's finally solved."

"Really? That's great!" Moira excitedly rushed forward and hugged Shireen. However, she quickly realized her rudeness and stepped back with a bright face.

In Fire Seal City, hugging between adult women is undignified behavior, unless they are related by blood. But Shireen didn't mind the hug just now, because Moira was obviously happy for her from the bottom of her heart.

"Uh, but how did you get enough money?" Moira was a little embarrassed, so she quickly changed the subject.

"My family sent me some money." Shireen lied. She couldn't tell the truth, otherwise Thomas End would definitely take Moira to the basement.

"Ha, I said you should write home. They are your family, how could they reject you? Not to mention, you got into trouble just to help your family."

"Yeah, I didn't expect it to be like this." Shireen replied softly, "Life sometimes brings us unexpected surprises, doesn't it?"

Moira nodded excitedly. "Would you like to have breakfast together? I made omelette and bacon sandwiches, which is enough for the two of us."

"Thank you for your kindness, but I have something to do today and must arrive at the company in advance." Shilin was so confused that she had to make up an excuse to reject her invitation.

After leaving the house, she rushed straight to the stagecoach station. Some workers in Port Authority uniforms were renovating the pavement near the station, and large square stone floor tiles had been dug out, exposing the soil below.

Half an hour later, the public carriage she took arrived at Central Street.

Since she hadn't eaten anything since last night, Shirin felt a little dizzy. Fortunately, she left the house twenty minutes early today, so she immediately went to a nearby restaurant after getting off the car and ordered a hearty breakfast.

After eating the last piece of pancake with satisfaction, Shireen called the waiter to pay the bill.

A tall, thin man came to the table with a scarf on his head. Shirin thought he seemed familiar.

When collecting the meal fee, he suddenly leaned into Shirin's ear and said, "Mr. Ende says hello to you." Before Shirin could realize what had happened, the waiter had already left with the empty plate.

There was a foreign body feeling in the pocket of her coat. She reached out and found a folded note in the pocket. Lin took out the note and unfolded it flat. There was a line of small words written on it. It was exactly the same as the note she found in the handkerchief in the morning.

:

"Moira is an innocent and lovely girl. We don't want anything to happen to her, right? So I sincerely suggest that her innocence and ignorance are best maintained for a long time. This is good for all of us.

."

Shireen stared blankly in the direction of the dead leaves, realizing that they had found a more valuable bargaining chip.

Throughout the morning, she was a little distracted. The insurance application form on the table reached an unprecedented height, and she even had to stand up to see the door of the office.

The insurance policy and the conversation last night made her anxious and confused. She made several wrong signatures and damaged several forms...

When the lunch bell rang, she felt like her head was about to explode. The results of the entire morning's work were pitiful, and absentmindedness was a disaster for an auditor.

Shirin stood up, stretched out on the back of her chair, and decided to put her work and worries aside for the time being and think about lunch.

In order to avoid Moira this morning, she didn't have time to prepare lunch, so she had to go out to eat. When she was hesitating about which restaurant to go to, Emma Page from the front desk team suddenly appeared.

"Miss Marron, are you free?" she said and knocked on the table, pretending to knock on the door.

Emma is one year older than Shireen and is one of the most fashionable women in the front desk team. She was dressed like a magazine model today, wearing a bright red dress and painted her lips in the light purple color that became popular only last month.

Shireen was a little surprised, but nodded politely. Emma Page joined the company at the same time as her, and they had been trained as receptionists together. However, after the internship, they had nothing to do with each other.

"Good afternoon, Miss Peggy." Shireen said, "What do you want from me?"

"Haha, you are still so serious." Emma Page narrowed her eyes and smiled, "It's not really an important matter. Do you have any plans for lunch?"

"Uh, I plan to go out to eat." Shireen replied.

"That's just right. Have you mentioned the salary advance to Clarks? He seems to have really put in some good words for you, so even though business has been slow recently, the company still agreed to do this favor for you."

Shireen looked at her in surprise, and then realized how ironic the thing was. If she had known this would happen earlier, she would not have to pick up dead people's money, and she would not have encountered what happened last night.

"I'm really flattered," she said, dumbfounded.

"Hey, who isn't? Speaking of which, do you know Senior Evaluator Kalenzo Devon?"

"Of course." Shirin remembered this name. He had a very high status in the company and was equivalent to the direct manager of each department. It was simply unthinkable to refuse his lunch invitation.

"We are going to have lunch with him later and talk about your citizenship tax...at least he said it is related to your citizenship tax." Emma smiled, "You are so lucky to meet him.

Such a good thing happened."
