Chapter 9 The Witch Hunter(1/2)
"Why, Marron, can't walk again?"
When Shireen asked for a place to stop and rest for the third time, Dead Leaf frowned at her. The tall female elf was still dressed as a man today, with a thick windbreaker over her riding attire, and flat boots on her feet.
Lin was extremely envious.
"These damn high heels." Shireen muttered.
"You said it yourself." Dead Leaf pointed out, "My previous high heels were stained with blood, so I need to buy a new pair."
"Yes, yes, but can't you wait until we get back before throwing away my old boots? I didn't say I would go shopping with you in new high heels!" Shireen staggered towards the bench by the roadside.
, sat down on it, and then hummed a few times with satisfaction.
"What a pampered young lady." Gu Ye shook his head impatiently, but still followed her with the package and sat next to her.
"You put it lightly, do you want to try walking in these shoes for a while?"
"Ha, I would like to. But your feet are so small, how can I fit them in?"
Shireen didn't bother to argue with her. After shopping around most of the women's clothing stores on Whispering Lily Street in her newly bought high heels, the only sounds she planned to come out of her mouth were moans and complaints.
No wonder there are so many benches for people to rest on the roadside of this street. The person who came up with this idea should be rewarded. "How many more things do you need to buy?" She rubbed her sore ankle through her shoes.
Dead Leaf took out the list they made together before going out from his pocket, "It seems that we need two more silk scarves and a new pair of gloves."
Shireen let out a plaintive moan.
"Okay, I'm not asking you to pay." The female elf patted her already deflated purse, "These are necessary preparations. If you don't want to be looked down upon by the wizard, you have to dress appropriately.
homework."
Of course she understood the importance of clothing, but she didn't expect that the shopping plan would be so difficult to implement. Before today, Shirin had always thought that she liked shopping. "Maybe he won't care what I wear," she sighed.
Qi said, "After all, you also said that in the eyes of wizards, civilians without magical talents can hardly be considered human beings."
"But that doesn't mean he will tolerate your mediocre clothes. Don't forget, you have to work for the Protector of the Country. What if he plans to take you with him when attending important occasions? You must have a decent set of clothes.
Bar?"
Shireen shrugged, "If he has requirements for my dress, maybe he should pay me a little more? But I don't remember receiving any additional subsidies."
"The wizard doesn't care about these inconsequential details at all. He only makes demands, and how to satisfy them is other people's business. If he needs a well-behaved and stylishly dressed female translator, then this female translator," Gu Ye
He glanced at her and said, "It's best to think of ways to behave appropriately and dress fashionably."
"Sounds like a really good and reasonable boss."
"Welcome to Fire Seal City, 'Her Royal Highness Princess' Marron."
They sat in silence for a while, enjoying the gentle evening breeze and the rare silence. The alchemy street lamp had not yet been turned on, and it was now the darkest time on the street.
Shireen stretched and began to consider whether she should take off her high heels and put her feet on the bench...
A vendor selling snacks pushed a cart past them, humming an off-key tune.
Shireen looked at her companion expectantly.
"Want more? Didn't you just eat it?"
"Just now? At least an hour has passed!"
Dead Leaf rubbed his brow gently, "For the last time, I'll leave after eating."
"Leave after eating, it's your decision." Shirin smiled sweetly.
The female elf muttered and stood up, running long legs to catch up with the vendor who had not gone far. Shireen watched her leave with satisfaction. Although she was indeed tired today, it was worth it to eat ice strawberries. If she was forced to leave
Fire Seal City and Ice Strawberry will definitely be at the top of her miss list.
Dead Leaf was bargaining with the vendor. Shireen took off her high heels and sat sideways on the bench. She looked around boredly and accidentally caught a glimpse of a red and blue silhouette.
It was a small team of city guards. Six soldiers wearing red and blue uniforms were marching on the sidewalk on the other side of the street with steps that could barely be called neat.
The leading officer was not wearing a city guard uniform. Under his dark red cloak, black armor was looming. He had short short hair close to his scalp. He walked with an elegant posture and a calm step, like an agility and strength.
Giant cats.
It took Shireen a moment to realize what she had seen.
Witch hunter.
She swallowed her saliva and looked at the dead leaves subconsciously. The female elf was walking towards this side with two glasses of iced strawberries. She obviously noticed the witch hunter, but there was no emotion on her face. The witch lurking in the Fire Seal City
In more than a year, she must have seen the witch hunter more than once.
"Let's go after eating." Gu Ye pushed the cup to her, the command in his tone was obvious.
"Okay." Shirin agreed obediently.
She had just eaten a strawberry when a loud explosion suddenly came from across the street, followed by shrill screams. Panic spread quickly like ink dripping into a water glass, and pedestrians on the street scattered screaming.
escape.
The dead leaves jumped up, and Shirin was so frightened that she knocked over the cup in her hand. "Can you go back by yourself?" she asked impatiently.
"I...I don't know."
"Then hire a car. You don't have to wait for me to have dinner." Before she finished speaking, she turned around and rushed across the street.
Shireen sat there blankly, watching the female elf rush against the fleeing crowd towards the cloak shop where the chaos originated.
Her heart was pounding, as if someone was beating a drum in her chest. The screams of people and the neighing of horses could be heard constantly, and for a moment, she wanted to join in this frightened and crazy chorus.
She knew she should run and follow the others down the street. But her feet were still hurting and she hadn't put on her shoes yet.
So she knelt on the bench and stared intently at the store door where the dead leaves had disappeared. Shireen didn't know what happened, but she knew that it wasn't her concern. She should leave with the clothes she just bought and hire a carriage.
…
A sharp explosion came from across the street, and the glass windows on that side of the street shattered and fragments flew everywhere. Shireen covered her ears in pain, almost convinced that she was deaf.
But she is not deaf.
The scream came again, and it sounded like a child.
She didn't know where the courage came from, so she jumped off the bench barefoot, grabbed her high heels on the ground, and ran towards the cloak shop.
She held up her skirt and rushed across the deserted street. The ground in front of the store was full of broken glass. Shirin had no choice but to put on those damn high heels, step forward cautiously, hide behind the door frame and look into the store.
All the lights in the cloakroom were shattered by the sonic boom. The surrounding light was dim and almost nothing could be seen... No, there was someone inside. More than one person.
Shireen held her breath subconsciously.
"...I recognize you." A man's voice said, "You are one of them, the tuner."
"Then you have every advantage," the other man's voice was that of Dead Leaf, "I know nothing about you."
"Don't worry...you'll find out soon enough."
The sound of a sharp blade being unsheathed was followed by the sound of metal and iron clashing together. Shirin hid behind the door frame and tried her best not to tremble.
As her eyes gradually adjusted to the brightness of the store, she saw human bodies lying on the ground. They were in uniforms and motionless, like corpses.
One, two, three... five people, a total of five people. They all collapsed on the ground. One of them seemed to be seriously injured, and dark liquid flowed out of his ears.
Shireen wanted to scream again, but fear prevented her from making a sound. Deep in the cloak shop, two blurry figures were fighting at a dizzying speed.
Their silhouettes danced a strange and terrifying dance, like a pair of dancing partners who cooperated tacitly, but with less ambiguity and more murderous intent to kill each other.
The sharp knives crisscrossed and cut into her eardrums, making her fingertips itch.
The child's scream came from the alley next to the coat shop. Shireen forced herself to look away from the dead leaves and the witch hunter's dance of death, and rushed towards the source of the sound.
She still remembers why she came.
In the alley, a city guard wearing a red and blue cloak turned his back to her, dragging a limp body back to the street where she was. A girl with pointed ears sat slumped on the ground outside the side door of the underground hat shop, screaming harshly.
scream.
Shireen looked around, trying to find someone to help. But there was no one around. Everyone knew what was going on, and she suddenly realized that everyone knew that the explosions and screams meant that witch hunters were hunting for hideouts.
The rising spirit.
The city guard dragged his body back towards her with difficulty, the scabbard on his waist was empty. Shireen looked at him numbly, her stomach churning.
He wasn't wearing a helmet.
Her mind went blank, but her body took the lead in taking action. She took off her high heels, held them tightly in her hands, and then used all her strength to hit the back of the city guard's head.
He screamed in pain and put down the body he was dragging. Shireen was so frightened by his cry that she almost let go. But she didn't let go, and then repaired the same part again.
The city guard who was turning back collapsed to the ground with a bloody head. Shireen threw down her deformed shoes in disgust, stepped forward and picked up the elf girl.
"It's okay," she said as gently as possible, "It's okay, don't be afraid."
The girl still kept crying.
Shirin felt like vomiting, and the little finger on her right hand was also in burning pain. She probably twisted it when she hit someone with her shoe.
"Don't be afraid, don't be afraid, it's okay." She held the girl in her arms, "Besides you... who else is there?"
The girl pointed in the direction of the side door. Shirin looked inside the door and saw only a woman with pointed ears lying in a pool of blood. There was a sword stuck in her chest, and she was no longer breathing.
Shireen resisted the strong desire to vomit, picked up the girl and walked towards the male elf who fell on the ground. Thank the gods, he was moaning softly. He was still alive.
To be continued...
