Chapter 6 Back to the Origin

The green light shone on the horrific corpse, making the bloody cheeks seem to turn into a deep blue vortex, sweeping up all luck and hope, sucking them in and crushing them, and then spit them out from the empty eye sockets.
Two streaks of red and white chaotic juice.
His hands were still covered with sticky blood and eyeball fragments, his mind was still groggy, and his weak legs finally could not support his violently shaking body.
Zhang Ke only felt that his knees were weak, and he suddenly fell to his knees in front of this strange corpse that he saw again.
This must be just a nightmare, right?
It was because I kept thinking about every detail of this incident that I fell asleep, so I re-enacted the exact same scene in my dream. This is the most reasonable explanation.
However, Zhang Ke had never had such a realistic dream.
Every detail in the room is so clearly visible, and even the subtlest transitions of light and shadow are not blurred. Even the corpse that makes me want to look away the most, is so vivid that no details are missing - and even more.
There were many things that I had not paid careful attention to in my panic before.
For example, the corpse's exposed arms, shoulders, and the bottom of the thighs near the floor all have reddish or even slightly scratched skin, similar to traces of being dragged. On the inside of her wrist, there is a small and cute Hello Kitty electronic
surface.
Zhang Ke was very sure that these were details that he had never noticed before.
Because he was too frightened and even at a loss when he saw the corpse for the first time, and a series of events happened in quick succession, he never carefully observed the various parts of the corpse and only had a general impression.
Are these new discoveries now new plots that I imagined in my dreams? Or...
An absurd and uncontrollable idea spread rapidly in Zhang Ke's mind like a prairie fire. He subconsciously raised his bloody palm and gently put it to his nose to smell it.
The strong and exciting smell of blood made him almost vomit and nauseated - in fact, he had already smelled the smell of blood in the surrounding room, but this action made him more certain of his conclusion.
"This is not a dream - these are realities!"
He has heard a conclusion that people have no sense of smell and taste in dreams, so even the clearest and most realistic lucid dreams cannot have such a clear smell of blood.
Since everything in front of me is reality, and the experiences in my memories are also vivid in my mind, if these two memories are not hallucinations caused by my madness and hysteria, then there is only one reason that can explain everything:
"I came back to the day before?"
He came up with this absurd conclusion to himself. Although the reason and common sense in his mind were constantly criticizing how ridiculous this idea was, it seemed that he couldn't find a better explanation at the moment.
He involuntarily took a step back, but accidentally stepped on a hard object, which hurt the sole of his foot and almost slipped again.
Fortunately, because he had been to this room once and had some understanding of the structure of the surrounding furniture, Zhang Ke subconsciously reached out to hold the shoe cabinet next to him, pulled it slightly to about 30 degrees, and regained his footing.
He looked closely at his feet and discovered that the thing that had hit his feet just now was the men's watch with a titanium steel chain.
The date and time left above still show [February 15, 5:17].
"Dong. Dong. Dong——"
Three knocks, which were not too hard, sounded one after another behind him. After a while, there were three more short and gentle knocks.
The person who knocked on the door sounded a little scrupulous and timid, so he neither dared to knock hard nor did he knock on the door continuously.
Even though he was mentally prepared and not as caught off guard as last time, the sudden movement in the silent night still made Zhang Ke's heart beat faster.
It felt as if his heart was about to jump to his throat, making him feel even breathing was suffocated.
Calm down - if I really go back to yesterday and everything happens again, then the man with glasses who appears at my door for the first time must still be the henpecked man with glasses.
Thinking of this, Zhang Ke arched his body, crept down in front of the cat's eyes, and peered out of the door with only the dim hallway light.
Sure enough, he was still the tall, thin man wearing a pair of glasses. His expression looked a little hesitant and uneasy, but the stronger emotion was one of deep helplessness.
Recalling that he had hurriedly opened the door before, but the bright red blood stains on his body and hands made the other party scream and run away. This time, Zhang Ke did not dare to open the door again, but pressed his whole body against the door panel, pretending to be impatient and shouted outside
:
"What are you doing? Why are you knocking on the door in the middle of the night? Don't sleep."
"Um...I'm sorry, I'm your neighbor in 502 downstairs..." The man was obviously a little panicked by Zhang Ke's anti-customer yell, and he hesitated:
"My wife just heard that there was a lot of commotion upstairs. It seemed that the floor was being repaired, so she asked me to come... to see if she needs any help?"
"Why are you repairing the floor after 11 o'clock in the middle of the night? Your wife is hearing hallucinations, right?"
Zhang Ke was convinced that this man had a cowardly and honest personality and did not want to have disputes or conflicts with others, so he continued to take the initiative: "It has been long since bed here. Even if there is any movement, it is not from our house. You can find someone else."
"this……"
The man hesitated for a moment, as if he didn't completely believe Zhang Ke's judgment, but he didn't know how to refute, and he didn't dare to go back in vain.
"Are you afraid that you won't be able to explain to your wife when you go back?" Zhang Ke, who saw through the dilemma in the other party's expression, asked.
"Oh...yes, to tell you the truth, I told her a long time ago before I went out that it might not be the sound coming from the residents upstairs, but she didn't believe it and still made a fuss with me..."
The man sighed and reached into the pocket next to his collar, as if he wanted to take out something, but found that the pocket was empty, and couldn't help but sigh heavily again.
He was probably looking for cigarettes. He was also a poor man, but compared to his miserable situation, it was nothing.
"Let's do this. No matter who made the noise, I will try not to move around too much and keep quiet." Zhang Ke said considerately in a good-natured tone, "You should go back to bed quickly. It's so late at night.
Yes, stop going in and out."
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry to bother you, thank you -"
As if he had received a pardon, the man thanked the door very happily, and then finally said goodbye with satisfaction and turned around to leave.
Listening to the receding sound of shoe nails hitting the steps, Zhang Ke breathed a sigh of relief, leaned his back against the door panel, and sat slumped on the ground.
