Chapter 5: Ten Miles of Yangtan

In the early morning of the next day, the sky was still dark, and the old man and the young man had already gotten up early. In fact, Gu Yi had gotten up earlier and had already returned from exercising in the mountains.

There were fine beads of sweat on his forehead, and his body was steaming with heat in the cool morning air. It was the hot blood rushing through the young man's body.

I stepped on an Oxford canvas backpack that my father Gu Jinnan once used. This backpack may seem a bit old at this time, but if it is placed in society more than ten years later, it will look like a retro British style and a representative of fashion.

.

Whether it was fashionable or not was not what Gu Yi cared about. He stuffed his drawing book and brushes into his backpack. After breakfast, Gu Yi followed Gu Yunsong out the door.

The only road out of the village is the road Gu Yi saw on the mountain. The road has not been built in the village this year. It is still the original old roadbed, simply paved with gravel and cinders, and it will be a little muddy on rainy days.

But in the early morning like this, the dew-moistened roads, quiet villages, rice fields with dewdrops on both sides, and a few old people who got up early to farm and walk, formed a unique scenery.

In Gu Yi's memory, when it rained when he was a child, everyone would pick up stones and jump on them to avoid getting their shoes dirty when going to and from school. It was a different kind of scenery.

Villagers he knew often greeted Gu Yunsong on the road, and occasionally stopped to say a few words.

Go straight all the way and pass through the metasequoia in the painting. It is as strong as in the memory, with cracked and soft reddish-brown bark and emerald green leaves.

Passing through the village, crossing the road, passing through the crowd, we reached the end in the painting.

The river meanders from north to south. The water level in the river beach is slightly shallow. The river beds on both sides have been exposed. The pebbles are covered with moss. The artificially built river embankments are rugged. The cement joints have become bulging due to crude workmanship, and some have fallen off.

.

"This river is called 'Yangxi Beach'. Once upon a time, there were continuous willows growing on both sides of the river. It was called the 'Ten Miles of Poplar Beach'. The water and grass were luxuriant and wild ducks were playing. When we were young, we often bathed here, but now we don't.

I can't see it anymore." Gu Yunsong said with some regret.

At that time, several reservoirs in the upper reaches of the river had not yet built gates, and several tributaries converged here. The water level was full all year round, and the river was rich in goods.

Shili Yangtan was destroyed during the steel-making period, and then dams and gate valves were built on the upstream reservoir. The river beach became shallower, the willows disappeared, and the vitality receded.

The scene of ten miles of poplar beach, full of tidbits, anthurium and green waves will no longer be seen again.

"Grandpa, don't worry! Everything will get better, and the scenery of the past will come back. You will see it." Gu Yi said leisurely, seeing the nostalgia and longing in Gu Yunsong's heart.

"Okay, when my grandson becomes successful in the future, he will come back to benefit the village and give him a ten-mile poplar beach." Gu Yunsong touched Gu Yi's head and laughed.

Gu Yi nodded noncommittally, and could vaguely imagine the peaceful and life-filled scene in front of him.

Gu Yi went down into the river. The water was very cool, just enough to wash away a bit of the heat. It was very shaded under the bridge. Gu Yunsong sat there and watched Gu Yi play in the river.

Wading in the river, the water is not deep. There are some deep pools in the river, which are about the waist and abdomen of an adult. There are some moss on the pebbles in the water and they are very slippery.

Gu Yi observed the river. It was similar to what he remembered. Although the goods in the river were not as abundant as Gu Yunsong recalled, they could still be seen everywhere.

It’s not like the time when material conditions improved and wild products were sold more than ten years later. The rivers were filled with middle-aged and elderly people fishing and setting up cages with nothing to do.

After playing in the river water for a while, a group of swimming fish disappeared.

Gu Yi went up to the river bank with satisfaction, walked under the bridge, sat next to Gu Yunsong, took out his drawing book and brush from his backpack, looked at the stream flowing southward, and fell into deep thought.

Gu Yunsong looked at Gu Yi, quietly without making a sound or disturbing him. He was also looking into the distance, with a trace of longing for memories flashing in his eyes.

Childhood scenes vaguely appeared before his eyes, and a trace of warmth appeared on his old face.

After being quiet for a while, Gu Yi's contemplative and slightly ignorant eyes flashed with a flash of understanding, and the sound of the pen tip scratching across the paper was heard intermittently.

Gu Yunsong was also interrupted by the voice, and glanced at the messy and dark lines in Gu Yi's drawing book, wondering why.

Seeing that Gu Yi was already absorbed in painting, he got up and walked along the river bank into the distance.

This old bridge pier has been abandoned for a long time, and few people walk on it. Foot-high grass has grown along the bridge railings, and the bottom of the bridge is also covered with moss due to long-term darkness and humidity.

It looks simple and peaceful, but also has the atmosphere of time.

Throughout the morning, only the shadow of the bridge hole moved with the tilt of the sun, the river water hit the pebbles, the pebbles collided with each other in the water, and the fresh fragrance of the green grass on the riverside was blown by the breeze.

, accompanied by Gu Yi who fell into immersion.

This feeling is really good, it makes people relaxed and happy, their mind is light, and their inspiration is endless.

A ray of heat came over, and then a ray of bright sun fell on the drawing paper, interrupting Gu Yi's creation. Gu Yi was stunned for a moment, then smiled, put away the drawing and stood up happily.

Gu Yunsong walked back from a distant place, sweating on his forehead, not knowing where he went.

"Grandpa, wash your face, let's go back and eat." Gu Yi waved to Gu Yunsong and walked into the river. The water was still cold and refreshing.

"Okay!" Gu Yunsong responded happily and splashed a handful of river water on his face. It felt cold and the heat was gone.

Before leaving, Gu Yi picked up a bag of pebbles and put it in his bag. He dug some deep holes near the shore and looked at the water marks. He also touched some river mussels, smashed the snails and threw them inside, and covered them with some grass and vines.

He used stones to hold him down, and then he and Gu Yunsong left together.

"What are you doing?" Gu Yunsong was a little confused about Gu Yi's behavior.

"Seeing that there are a lot of goods in the river, let's see if the blind cat can encounter some dead mice." Gu Yi said innocently.

"This river has been barren these years, and the things in it have grown naturally. There may be something good in it, but are you good at it?" Gu Yunsong said with a smile.

"I'll borrow some eel cages and ground cages this afternoon to try for two days." Gu Yunsong thought about it and then said, which actually aroused Gu Yunsong's interest.

His interest was all aroused by the fish in the river, and he didn't care about the pack of pebbles that Gu Yi brought back.

When Gu Yi and Gu Yunsong went out again the next day, their hands were full of things, most of which were cages. Gu Yi carried four eel cages, and Gu Yunsong also carried two large eel cages about ten meters long.

.

One by one, the two of them opened several deep pits that Gu Yi had dug the day before. Nine out of ten were empty, with only a few small loaches wandering leisurely in them, seemingly mocking Gu Yi's childishness and whims. Such a scene made people angry.

Gu Yunsong burst into laughter.

But maybe everything has a twist, and God will always favor those who are imaginative and creative. When Gu Yi opened the last straw lid, Gu Yunsong's laughter stopped suddenly and his eyes widened.

In the deep pit, a leisurely old turtle lay there. Seeing Mr. Gu and Yi, they were stunned for a long time, and then suddenly retracted their heads.

"That's okay!" Gu Yunsong murmured, and he quickly picked up the old turtle and put it into the cage.

The old turtle was pure wild, weighing more than a kilogram, and he had probably been out there for three to five years. Gu Yi was also pleasantly surprised by the good stuff that he had received. It seemed that there were indeed a lot of good stuff in the river.

The time after that was as usual, Gu Yi began to immerse himself in his painting, and Gu Yunsong continued his wandering, but this time there was a little more observation in the wandering, and when he saw good places, he would secretly go to one or two

cage.

The two of us go out every morning and come back in the afternoon, and they always bring something back, including eels, river shrimps, hairy crabs, wild crucian carp, tiger fish, loaches, and occasionally wild old turtles.

The family's food supply was greatly improved, and for this reason, Gu Jingnan was asked to build a pond in front of his house specifically to raise endless river products.

There are more and more pebbles piled up beside the courtyard wall.

Over the past few months, Gu Yunsong and Gu Yi seemed to have developed a habit of getting up and going out every morning. Every day they would put down the cage and touch fish. Every time they saw something coming up, they felt an indescribable joy in their hearts.

His old body seemed to be rejuvenated. Perhaps it was due to his happy mood, sufficient nutrition, and sufficient intensity of exercise every day. Gu Yunsong felt that his body was much stronger and his whole body was much more relaxed.

Although the fields at home are a little neglected, I don't care. If you are lazy in farming, you will eat lazy vegetables. Anyway, the harvest is much more than the loss.

This is exactly what Gu Yi planned and expected, to change Gu Yunsong's living habits and living environment.

Increase his appropriate level of exercise, reduce overwork, keep his body and mind refreshed and happy, and improve his eating habits and food quality, thereby changing the direction of some things.

Changing one's destiny against the will of heaven may seem like a fantasy, but it can actually be explained in real life.

Competing with heaven for destiny lies in foresight, being able to foresee things happening, knowing the whole story, and understanding the direction of destiny, so that manpower can be deployed and planned step by step to seize the opportunity of heaven and promote the migration of destiny.

Just like what Gu Yi did, knowing the cause of Gu Yunsong's death in the future, tracing the causes of it, and using his own behavior to influence and change the behavior that originally caused the cause is the power to change the trajectory of destiny.
