Chapter 137 Ancient Roman Colosseum
Roger strolls on the battlefield, imagining himself fighting people in the arena.
Then the movie "Gladiator" that he had watched in his previous life appeared in his mind.
He thought of the plot of General Maximons and the tyrant Commodius in the play, who fought in the Roman Arena.
He suddenly thought that in the plot, General Maximums and the tyrant Commodius rode artificial lifting machinery from underground and entered the duel arena directly.
He clearly remembers that the tyrant, Commodius, in the play, was cheating on the lifting machinery and stabbed General Maximums with a knife.
When watching the movie, Roger did not take a closer look at what the basement of the arena looked like.
Now he looked at the sand under his feet.
He thought, maybe there might be a basement under this arena.
So Roger became curious and wanted to understand.
He ordered his subordinates to search separately to see if there was an entrance to the basement.
Roger saw that his subordinate, Silly Henk, stomping the ground very hard, as if he wanted to stomp out the basement.
Roger thought that there had been many fights on the ground before, and there might have been beasts like lions and bears. If the roof of the ancient Roman basement was very thin, it would have collapsed long ago.
Roger ignored this stupidity, anyway, this guy was very strong, so let him do whatever he wanted.
Not long after, Roger heard a subordinate shouting:
"Finally found it, there is a downward slash here!"
At this time, a strange sound suddenly sounded in the arena, like a demon roaring underground:
"Who disturbed my sleep, the god of death will spread its wings and descend on his head."
Roger stopped his subordinates' further actions in surprise.
He thought, this is the Colosseum of the ancient Romans, not the tomb of the pharaoh, how could there be such a curse-like thing?
The voice said again:
"I will strangle any person who comes here with impure heart, like a bird."
Roger was not scared. This voice made him even more curious about what was under the arena.
He ordered his men to light a torch, draw out their swords, and go down to search with caution.
The leading knight walked a few steps away, and the knight who was still on the ground behind him issued a warning.
"There are people there!"
Roger turned around and saw a black shadow rushing out from behind a stone wall on the edge of the sand and running straight out of the arena.
Roger saw that the black shadow was not tall, thin and small, and seemed to be a child.
He changed the order.
"Catch him!"
So Roger and his men ran after the black shadow.
The black shadow rushed into the ancient Roman residential area that collapsed so much that only ruins were left.
He seemed to be familiar with this place in the alleys.
Roger chased after him.
After chasing several alleys, Roger saw the black shadow turning into a fairly complete stone house.
Roger chased after him.
There are many small compartments inside the stone house, and the stone slabs on the door frames are engraved with exquisite patterns.
Roger glanced inadvertently, then stopped unconsciously.
He looked at the patterns carefully and they were all erotic pictures that were not suitable for children. The various postures were vividly portrayed, and even men.
He looked at the small compartments again, and it seemed that there was a little spare time to put a bed in size.
Roger immediately understood what this was.
He searched carefully one by one, but no one was there.
Then he turned a corner and saw another door.
The daily routine of the ancient Roman era emerged in Roger's mind:
A man entered here, and his wife followed him to catch the adulterer. The man immediately left through the back door and then walked over the street as if nothing had happened.
Roger stopped imagining, and he walked out of the door, and the alley outside was empty.
On the drinking trough at the corner of the alley, the stone carved lion grinned and stuck out his tongue, leading tap water pipes from his mouth.
Roger knew that he could not catch up with the dark shadow.
Then he suddenly remembered a past event: when he was walking through the wilderness, a robin as big as a palm pounced on his pony in order to protect his territory.
He thought, when did the black shadow pop out?
He remembered that it was when they were about to enter the basement.
He thought, is that black shadow protecting his nest like a robin?
Roger turned around and greeted his men:
"Let's go to the basement of the arena again."
Roger and his men walked slowly down the narrow ramp. After turning a bend, they walked into an empty and spacious underground corridor.
The torches were burning, indicating that the corridor was well ventilated, although Roger could not see where the vent was.
The torch light cannot shine on the other end of the long corridor.
Roger estimated the location. The corridor was heading north and south, and should run across the entire battlefield in the center of the oval battlefield.
On both sides of the corridor are stone rooms.
The door had long been rotten, leaving only an empty box.
When we reached the middle of the corridor, there were two smaller corridors that crossed the main corridor and separated to the east and west sides.
At the top of the small corridor, Roger saw a completely decayed device that was suspected to be a manual lifting machine.
All rooms have been inspected.
Roger and his men found that a room had been cleaned cleanly, and did not find any special situations.
There is also a round well in this clean room with ropes at the wellhead.
Roger threw a torch down, and the torch was sank into the water and went out.
Roger saw the rope extending all the way under the water.
Another imagination came to Roger's mind:
In the dim basement, torches were inserted into the corridor and burning in a row.
The dying gladiator in the room next to him was still gasping for breath.
The fierce guard waved his whip and the slaves fetched water from the well.
Buckets of water washed away the blood on the ground.
Two more gladiators stepped on the water and walked into both ends of the small corridor separately.
Then they rose to the battlefield amid the cheers of thousands of viewers and started a desperate battle.
...
The movements in the well interrupted Roger's imagination.
A girl surfaced with a cough.
Roger realized that he had just ignored a clue. Since the wood was rotten, how could the well rope still exist?
The knight under his command pulled the girl out of the well.
The girl didn't make a fuss, and she looked like she was accepting her fate.
A boy's voice sounded at the other end of the corridor:
"Let her go, you devils have the will to come to me!"
A knight walked over after hearing the sound.
Soon he came back with a boy in a black cloak.
When Roger looked at his figure, he should be the dark shadow that led him away.
He saw that the boy was still struggling.
The girl spoke: "You guys do it, I am a redundant person, and I am not willing to die.
"But this man has nothing to do with me. If you still follow the teachings of Allah, please let this innocent man go."
Roger realized that he seemed to have caused a misunderstanding.
Roger saw the girl soaked because of this misunderstanding.
He thought at least he had to change his clothes and dry them.
So Roger took everyone to the ground.
He instructed Miledi to take the girl to the caravan to change her clothes.
He ordered everyone to set off.
In the territory of the Arabs, Roger didn't want to be troublesome.
Moreover, he saw that the situation of these two children was clearly in trouble.
