Chapter 184 Persuading to Surrender

Roger looked at the villagers outside the city, and was flirting with their trespassing machines.

But this time is different from just now.

After loading the stones, the villagers drizzled them with oil and lit the fire.

Four fireballs, with thick black smoke, passed through the city walls and fell like meteorites in the city of Toledo.

The fireball fell, smashed the tiles, and fell into the house.

Roger saw the panicked citizen screaming and running out of the house.

Flames and thick black smoke rose.

Roger heard the church bell ringing the warning bell.

He saw some citizens spontaneously organizing to put out the fire with a basin of water.

But Toledo's winding alleys caused great trouble to these people who fetched water and put out fires.

Roger saw from a distance that it seemed that citizens were still entering and leaving the house where the fire was on fire.

Maybe someone is rescuing his property in the fire house, or maybe someone is robbing him by the fire.

The goods brought out were piled up in the narrow alley, and the person holding the basin squeezed by side.

Roger heard someone quarrel in his nimble ears: "This is mine, mine!"

I also heard someone crying: "My child is in the house, who will save my child!"

Four more fireballs fell into the city, so there were four more fire points, and four black smoke rose straight into the air.

The chaos is intensifying.

Toledo's dense complex allows flames to burn from one house to another easily.

Roger knew decisive measures must be taken to stop the spread of the fire.

He hurriedly ordered the stonemasons and the round shield swordsmen to disperse them to go to the city to put out fires and maintain order.

He ordered: "Drop down the houses around the fire point immediately. If there are blocking, all those who dare to resist will be detained!"

He also sent someone to inform Father Dominic and asked him to send someone to appease the affected people.

When the third round of fireball crossed the wall, Roger saw the civilian fiddling with the castle car and stopped acting.

Then Roger saw the big leader in black robe, carrying 13 white robe knights, holding white flags, running from afar.

There were several black-fingered crossbow militia on the city wall holding up crossbow bows and trying to shoot.

The veterans who commanded them stopped them.

The San Diego Knights happened to stop and open the way.

Roger silently praised these people's military literacy.

If the other party gets closer, he may not be able to help but order a volley.

Roger knew that the white flag in this era did not mean surrender, it just meant that the flag holder was an envoy and came to negotiate.

The big black-robed leader shouted arrogantly:

"I am Don Basco Lopez, the leader of the Knights of Santiago, and I ask to play against the main player, Toledo's acting city lord Fernando, and come out to answer."

Roger was stunned. He suddenly realized that his opponent did not know that Toledo's acting city lord had changed.

He thought that the opponent would definitely not know about the secret letter from Uraka who asked Shana to send it to Roger to manage Toledo.

He thought of the night when Fernando escaped, the bed bug and the javes crossed the river and did not touch his head.

He thought that the Javelin Cavalry had no reason to know that Fernando had fled, so he would not inform the later Knights of Santiago that the city lord had changed.

Roger suddenly had an idea. He thought that the other party was obviously here to persuade him to surrender. If I surrender, I might be able to get through...

Before Roger could think about it, he saw Henk jumping onto the wall and shouting at Lopez, the leader of the black robe:

"Bold! My Lord is the noble Earl of Sicily, Lord Roger.

"You, a country bumpkin who doesn't know where you come from, dare to sit and talk to my master immediately? Why don't you get off the horse and salute me!"

Roger was stunned.

He saw Henk laughing with his waist, as if he was very content with his performance just now.

Then he saw Henk turn around and jump off, laughing at him like a petty person, like a husky who made a mess in his house, seeking credit for his master who returned home.

Henk said: "Sir, I'm not wrong this time."

Roger touched his nose, remembering that he had indeed said that Henk kept this passage and said it to the enemy.

Roger then gave up his unrealistic thoughts.

He knew that he was crazy just now. After his opponent entered the city, he could find someone to know the truth. How could he get through it?

He nodded to Henk: "Yes, well said, very imposing."

Henk stood back in place happily, hugged the Norman Odin and began to brag.

Roger didn't have time to care about Henk's doing, and his attention was always on the black-robed leader Lopez.

Lopez's face turned blue, and he said coldly:

"So you are Roger of Sicily. I have heard your name. His Majesty Alfonso has always wanted to see you, whether it is dead or alive."

Roger sighed softly. He knew that this matter could not be discussed. He changed the topic and said:

"Castilia and Aragon were once as close as brothers, and they were all Christians. Why did they fight each other? I believe this is not the will of the Lord..."

"This is the will of the Lord!"

The black-robed leader Lopez interrupted Roger rudely, and he said arrogantly:

"Roger of Sicily, and all the Toledo soldiers, listen to you:

“To avoid further casualties, I suggest that you immediately stop the unnecessary resistance and lead all troops to surrender.

“You have been surrounded without hope, and you cannot escape from our siege.

"If you refuse to surrender, then all the officers and soldiers who do not accept this proposal to end the meaningless resistance, one of the three lieutenants will be executed, which is a punishment for the meaningless resistance.

"You should propose surrender in groups, and all officers who voluntarily cease to resist will be allowed to retain their weapons, armor and horses!"

Roger suddenly wanted to laugh. He thought the words of persuading surrender were stupid. Isn't this forcing the Toledo officers and soldiers to fight to the death?

He looked at the city wall and saw the soldiers, who were originally anxious, timid and panicked because of the tragic situation in the city, but now they all looked solemn.

Roger felt that he should add more fire, he said:

"Lopez, you said this is the will of the Lord, but I don't know when the Lord said it, and I don't know if you can explain it to me?"

Lopez sneered disdainfully, and said:

"You sinners, let me tell you.

"The Lord said, 'Those who sacrifice to other Gods shall not only worship the Lord, but who shall be extinct.'

"Did you understand? Do you know where you are wrong?

"Look at your city, there are temples of Elams, and the synagogues of the Jews, and this is not following the teachings of the Lord.

"I tell you that whoever does not follow the teachings of the Lord will be destroyed.

“Have you ever heard the endings of ‘Sodom’ and ‘Gomorrah’?

"The two people in the cities did not obey the teachings of the Lord, but were brought down sulfur and fire from heaven by the Lord, and destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, the surrounding cities and all the plains, and all the inhabitants of the city, even those who grew on the earth.

"I advise you to surrender now and hand over your property and land obediently.
