Chapter 31 Horse Racing

Roger just said that naturally he would not read the Bible to the horse. He decided to give himself a holiday and have a good rest.

Roger was lying on the bunk, watching the Baron go out to practice his sword, and listening to Angelica chirping as she went to work, but he just couldn't get up.

Until the ajar door was pushed open, he saw in a trance a seriously Internet-addicted teenager shouting "renew" and throwing money at the front desk.

Roger shook his head to dispel the illusion. He watched the "gift" throw the halter in front of his eyes.

He knew that this matter could not be resolved. How could the former "fearless man" remain indifferent to such a provocation?

Roger struggled to get up, and he pushed the pony: "Get out, get out, who allowed you to enter the house? If you have to poop in there, I won't be able to wipe it."

Roger and Pony spent the whole next week together.

Relying on his youth and strong resilience, he gritted his teeth and persevered.

His riding skills have improved greatly, and his endurance has grown by leaps and bounds.

He verified the evolutionary process of human beings.

When Roger was finally able to jump off the horse in high spirits, he proudly announced to the Baron: "Rollo, I have reached the state of man and horse, and I am much faster than you."

"Come on, does that count as a human and a horse?" the baron sneered. "At most, it's just a horse and a human being. It's almost like a fool tied to a horse."

"How come it's not a man and a horse? Didn't you see how fast we ran?"

"The combination of man and horse means that the man commands the horse. Does your pony obey your command? It is basically carrying you around."

Roger was rendered speechless by the refutation, and he said angrily: "But we just run fast."

The baron was aroused to be aggressive, and he said: "Tomorrow I will show you what it means to be a man and a horse."

A competition was thus decided.

The chirping little skylark let the news out, and the gossiped villagers spread it as fast as the sound could reach.

The ranger got the news and came to join in the fun.

So, when Roger led the pony to the village entrance the next day, what he saw was an empty road and clusters of villagers gathering along the road.

The villagers looked at the three men and three horses with excitement as if they were watching the Dakar Rally.

When everything was ready, the little chaffinch waved down the cloth in his hand.

The ranger was the first to rush out, followed closely by the baron.

Roger, who was a little slow to react, shook the reins and said, "Ride him."

The pony immediately exerted its strength to keep up.

But with just such a delay, he was already two horses behind.

There is a gentle slope at the entrance of the village, followed by a sharp turn to the right, and then a long straight road.

Roger knew the terrain well, and the pony beneath him was also familiar with the terrain.

Roger could feel that the "Gift" was not accelerating at full speed. He saw that the Baron in front also began to slow down and was preparing to turn.

The ranger, who was half a horse ahead of the baron, was still moving forward at high speed.

Roger was very doubtful. This section of road was often used by forest rangers, so it was impossible for him not to recognize the road. But at his speed, wouldn't he have to run off the main road when turning?

Villagers on the roadside cheered.

Roger had no time to care about them. He only saw the ranger turning sideways and shifting his entire weight from the saddle to the right side of the horse. He simply pulled the horse and completed a sharp turn with a small radius, like drifting, at a very slow speed.

Cut the ground and pass the bend.

Roger also saw that the baron also shifted his weight to the right stirrup, but the extent was obviously not as great as that of the ranger. He slowed down slightly and turned around.

Roger didn't have the skills to move his center of gravity, so he didn't dare to move.

When his pony turned the corner, he saw that the Baron was about five horse lengths ahead of him, and the ranger was too far ahead to estimate accurately.

On the straightaway, "Gift" began to exert force, and its nostrils snorted.

Roger knew that he was not convinced. He was always the one provoking other horses. When would it be the other horses' turn to be defeated in front of him?

But when Roger looked at the baron in front of him, he was getting further and further away.

Watching them, Roger felt like watching an eagle hanging in the breeze. They were not a simple man and horse, but an elegant one. Roger was mesmerized by what he saw. This was the true unity of man and horse.

"Gift" was a little frustrated. It seemed that it could not catch up, so it lost the motivation to fight.

Roger suddenly thought that he also had special skills, and he started screaming "ah, ah".

The maroon fire truck sounded its siren and started racing wildly.

Roger's little ears heard the laughter of the villagers on the roadside, but he didn't care.

The louder and more miserable he screamed, the more excited the "gift" became and the faster he ran.

He knew that "Gift" was a naughty boy who liked to play pranks, and he loved his screams to death.

The baron in front had already passed the ranger, and Roger was also catching up quickly.

Roger knew that the ranger had suffered at the expense of the horse breed. The baron's war horse was no ordinary horse, and Roger's pony was carefully selected by his father, the count. Although Roger didn't understand, he was definitely not an ordinary breed.

He looked at his own horse and the ranger's horse like a Ferrari sports car and a Beijing Jeep.

Soon Roger passed the ranger.

The road ahead is a big S-curve, passing through a sparse forest.

The Baron once emphasized not to race or trot at the edge of the forest area, but every time he rode "Gift" he would trot through here.

So although the Baron is now ahead, if he slows down here, Roger will be confident of catching him.

The Baron and Roger entered the woods one after another.

Roger saw that the Baron had indeed slowed down.

Roger turned back to look after the ranger. The ranger also came in.

Then he saw that the ranger did not take the S-shaped road, but walked in a straight line through the forest.

The sparse woods could not block Roger's sight. He saw the ranger's horse gliding nimbly through the trees like a loach. Roger looked on with envy, as he was not capable of this.

The Baron adjusted his center of gravity left and right to negotiate the S-turn, like a motorcyclist.

The baron's horse was in its prime, strong and heavy, and it was carrying a strong man on its back. The inertia caused by their weight was not easy to overcome.

The heavyweight pair almost hit a tree, and Baron had to slow down again.

The lightweight combination of Roger and "Gift" ran past the Baron in high spirits.

Roger came out of the woods. The road ahead looked like a capital C, going around a depression.

When it rains, water will accumulate in the depressions. Although it is dry now, Roger knows that the soil there is very soft.

He saw the ranger taking another shortcut and crossing the depression.

Roger thought that the Beijing Jeep might not be able to outrun the Ferrari sports car, for example, in this soft depression.

He and "Gift" always walked along the main road here. But this time "Gift" looked at the ranger's horse and seemed to be stimulated. He probably felt that it could do what other horses could do, and it actually crossed

The curb rushed down into the depression.

Roger was shocked. He pulled the reins and tried to stop the pony, but "Gift" shook his head and refused to accept the command.

"Gift" trotted a few steps in the depression before stepping into a soft mud puddle.

Fortunately, Roger had already sat up straight. When he saw this, he quickly picked up the reins and leaned his weight back. The pony's neck took advantage of the force and struggled for a while before standing up again.

Roger didn't know what to do next, but "Gift" was smart enough. It stopped running around and instead followed the ranger's horse's footprints.

Only then did Roger notice that the ranger did not walk in a straight line. He chose to walk on the hard ground in the depression. This was another skill that Roger had never learned.

Roger passed through the depression and walked onto the road again. He saw the Baron running along the big C-curve honestly, and he was only halfway through the C-shaped curve.

Ahead was the dam construction site. To facilitate transportation, the roads there were all horizontal and vertical. Roger thought this was a good opportunity to catch up with the ranger.

So he sounded the fire engine siren again, and "Gift" started to go crazy.

The mountain people laughed and cheered as they watched Roger easily surpass the ranger on the straightaway.

Now Roger is in the lead.

Further ahead is a wood and stone pile. According to Roger's request, the wood and stone were divided into two rows, piled neatly like the character "LV", and the road here is like the character "曰".

The pony went around the edge as usual.

The ranger who followed directed the horse to jump over the pile of wood, followed a few steps closer, and jumped over the pile of stones again.

Therefore, Roger, who had not yet tasted the feeling of being in the lead, lost his first position.

Roger saw behind him the Baron, who was soaring like an eagle on the straight road, and had already caught up.

When Roger ran around the pile of stones and onto the straight road, he looked back and saw the eagle soaring easily, like flowing clouds and water, or strolling in a courtyard, continuously passing over the piles of wood and stones, and only one horse body was left behind him.

Roger didn't dare to be distracted anymore. He concentrated on adjusting his posture and trying his best to make the pony run more smoothly.

The suspended eagle caught up with half of the horse again, almost keeping pace with Roger. The two of them passed the ranger one on the left and one on the right.

At that moment of miscarriage, Roger saw the helpless smile of the ranger.

There was a sharp turn to the right ahead. The Baron controlled the horse's speed, and Roger turned first.

Roger knew that the Baron was trying to avoid him, otherwise he and "Gift" would definitely be knocked away by the heavyweight combination.

After that, there is a long straight road, along the Alcantara River, all the way to the isolated rocky mountain.

Roger felt that the ranger had no chance, and the next confrontation would be between him and the Baron.

The suspended eagle caught up again.

Roger no longer needs to whistle, the pony is running crazy, it has never run so fast.

The two teams are chasing each other, just like Optimus Prime's heavy-duty truck and Bumblebee's supercar racing.

You are better because of your strength, and I am better because of my lightness.

There is only one horse head before and after.

Until we reached the stone mountain, we couldn't really tell the winner.

This side of the rocky mountain is relatively gentle, but the other side is steep.

So both of them slowed down.

After turning around the top of the mountain, in front of us is a simple z-turn mountain road, which was paved with gravel by masons to facilitate the mining of stone.

Roger had already seen the end point, the church construction site not far down the mountain.

He saw the dean waiting there, waiting to announce who was the champion.

The two pairs carefully walked through the first turn.

Only then did the ranger turn out from the top of the mountain.

But the ranger took a shortcut again. His horse turned sideways so nimbly, it looked for a foothold that Roger couldn't see step by step, and went straight down the steep slope.

Nowadays, horse racing seems to have changed from faster to slower. The end is in sight, but the road is very difficult. Everyone is anxious, but no one can be anxious. One mistake will waste all the efforts and be eliminated directly.

Roger and the Baron reached the second turn, and the ranger passed halfway.

Roger did some mental math and felt that the ranger must be faster.

But apparently he underestimated the Baron.

The eagle took off again, and the war horse jumped directly off the cliff.

The baron rode into the church site in a hurry.

Roger could only be envious. The pony was not fully developed and was not as strong as a war horse. He did not dare to play like this.

As Roger expected, the ranger arrived at the foot of the mountain before him and entered the construction site with ease.

Roger shook his head and accepted defeat.

When Roger entered the church site, he found that everyone was cheering. They were in admiration for seeing a wonderful horse race, and no one was ridiculing the loser.

Angelica handed Roger the clear water she had just drawn from the Alcantara River.

Looking at her red cheeks and sweaty nose, Roger guessed that this girl must have waved the cloth and then took a shortcut and ran all the way over.

Roger was not used to drinking raw water like Angelica, but he was very thirsty now. He took the clear river water and drank it "ton to ton".
