Chapter 334 Lebanese Cuisine(1/2)
Roger asked gossip: "Can you tell me the agreements that Hassin said?"
Pons said indignantly: "They claimed that my father hired them to assassinate William."
Roger asked: "Which William?"
Pons said: "It is William of Tripolib who was fighting with my father.
“That guy is also a character.
"He once defeated the Damascus king Tugticin and captured the Yaka Fortress that even the Duke Godfri could not conquer."
Roger said in surprise: "It is an amazing accusation to hire pagans and assassinate such a famous Christian."
Pons, with the kind that young people often have, once they start arguing about something, they must make a clear attitude and say:
"So they made up this.
"It's just because my father was able to take over all the Beliefs left by my grandfather Raymond after William's death.
“These Hasshins thought that they could blackmail my father by claiming that William was their assassination.
“They took it for granted.
"You must know that the Tripolibean was originally created by my grandfather Raymond, and it should have been passed on to my father Bertrand without a doubt.
"William stole Beth without my grandfather being called and my father had not arrived yet.
“And when my father came to the huge fleet of Pisa and Genoese, he refused to return the territory.
“That caused a fight between my father and him.
“Then William then went to form an alliance with Doncred and came to deal with my father.
“And my father was supported by King Baldwin of Jerusalem.
"But in order not to cause Christian division, my father chose to shake hands with William and make peace, and both sides divided the country of Tripolibes evenly.
"Tell me, how could my father do that dirty, mean means in this case?"
Roger felt that Pons' logic was very confusing.
He thought that it was in this case that it was most likely to solve the problem with assassination.
After all, everyone knows that if a problem cannot be solved, then the person who caused the problem will be solved.
But Roger didn't say that.
He could see that Pons was firmly standing on his father's side.
This is because of Pons' blood and because it is related to the legitimacy of the Tripolib ruled by Pons.
As the saying goes, the butt determines the head, Pons will never admit that his father and Hassin had such an agreement.
Therefore, the contradiction between the Pons family and Hassin is unsolvable.
However, this matter has nothing to do with Roger. Of course, he would not be so stupid that he would have a bad time with Pons.
So he echoed and said ambiguous nonsense: "Of course not, this is obvious and anyone can see it."
Pons was very satisfied with Roger's answer, and he happily drank a glass of wine with Roger.
Then he added excitedly: "Everyone knows that William was shot through the heart with an arrow because he annoyed his entourage in a secret attack.
"This is what his ally, Doncred of Antioch, is my wife's ex-husband, said in person."
Roger's eyes twitched, and he seemed to hear some interesting gossip.
And Pons turned to his wife at this time and said, "Dear, you were there at that time. You said, is what I said true?"
Princess Cecilia nodded silently.
Roger saw that her face turned paler.
So this question seems to have come to a final conclusion.
Then Pons shifted the topic to other aspects.
He first emphasized to Roger that all food is safe.
Because both the chef and the delivery person are under strict surveillance.
And before serving each dish and wine, the tester had eaten it first.
Then Pons began to say something, in Roger's opinion, was all boring nonsense.
While Roger also used nonsense to evade Pons, he turned his attention to food to deal with the boredom of the banquet.
After the fish, the servants brought a lot of meat.
Under the introduction of the attendant, Roger was able to know the name of these meat foods and the best way to eat them.
He saw chicken kebabs grilled with seasonings including garlic and lemon for a few hours.
The chicken skewook, called "shishtawook", can be eaten alone or with bread, and most commonly served with fresh vegetables and Lebanese garlic sauce, hummus and tabole salad.
He also saw the fried bean balls "fel" made by grinding chickpeas and broad beans, and then seasoning them with coriander, garlic, coriander or cumin, and frying them.
Some of these meatballs are filled with meat, while others are vegan and can be eaten with pita or vegetable platters.
Also, roll the dough flat, then press small dents on the dough with your fingers, put cheese, thyme and minced meat on the dough, sprinkle with chopped parsley and spinach, and make a "manakish" like a pizza after baking.
And according to the attendant, it is very popular in Lebanon and is considered the "kibbeh" that is the most famous dish in Lebanon.
But no matter how Roger looks at it, he thinks it's just a meatball or meat pie.
However, after eating it, he felt that this kind of meatball made of wheat grains, minced onion and beef, lamb, goat and camel meat, tasted really good.
The fillings include lamb, beef, mixed with onions, pine nuts, salt, pepper, etc., and the roasted meat pie "sfiha" is paired with ingredients such as cheese, curd and vegetables, which tastes very much to Roger's appetite.
As for another barbecue, Roger almost burst into laughter after hearing its Arabic name "shawarma".
Because its homonym, it really looks like the Chinese word "Do you miss me?"
This is a kind of roasted lamb that is roasted vertically on a barbecue fork.
Cut it off layer by layer while baking, mix it with vegetables, onions, sauce, etc., and serve with pita cakes.
Another one that is also wrapped in pita is a minced meat cooked with ghee and a “hushwee” made with roasted pine nuts and cinnamon.
Roger is having a good time eating.
The servants brought another dish of meat.
This food made Roger suddenly feel helpless and didn't know what to do.
He asked in surprise: "Has the chef missed a step and forgot to cook?"
Before the attendant introduced him, Pons smiled proudly and said, "This dish must be eaten like this."
Roger scratched his head and looked at the plate of blood-red raw mutton in front of him.
He said: "But this is still alive!"
In front of Roger, Pons grabbed a ball of raw mutton and put it in his mouth, chewing it, with a satisfied expression on his face.
He said: "It's just raw but delicious."
Seeing that Pons was delicious, Roger hesitated whether he wanted to try it too.
The servant who served him introduced in his ear:
“This is a ‘kibbehnayyeh’ made of chopped raw lamb, spices and wheat crumbs, which is usually served with scallions, olive oil, mint leaves and pita cakes.”
Roger then took the courage to try it.
Instead of using pita bread, he imitated Pons and grabbed a ball and put it in his mouth.
He felt that the mutton was smooth and tender in the mouth, and the taste was somewhat similar to the seafood I had eaten in my previous life. It could be eaten raw, but it had a more texture. He didn't taste too much olfactory taste, but he just thought it was delicious.
But Roger didn't eat too much, and he was afraid that his stomach would not be able to adapt.
This era of gastroenteritis may cause death.
So Roger turned his attention to two staple foods.
One dish is crushed toast called "fatteh".
It can be eaten with yogurt, steamed chickpeas and olive oil; it can also be eaten with salty ingredients such as roasted chicken, eggplant, carrots and pine nuts.
The other dish is made of brown lentils and rice and is decorated with caramelized onions.
Roger thought proudly when he was eating caramelized onions:
Pons, for your service, when you arrive in Sicily, I will also entertain you for caramel.
I guess at that time, you could no longer eat caramel because no one helped you grow sugar cane or boil sugar.
By the way, I guess sweets aren't that easy to make.
Roger thought happily while turning his eyes to the sweets on the table.
There are four kinds of sweets.
One is the "mujaddara" with a thick consistency similar to rice pudding.
To be continued...
