Chapter 354 Mysterious Weapon(1/2)

It turns out that Shana's command was correct.

Just as the archers of Sarasen in Sicily dispersed, several Egyptian warships cast stone balls with fire.

The fireball drew an arc and hit a place where there were originally crowds.

Several archers who had not had time to run away were instantly smashed into blood mud or burned into coke.

But after the archers dispersed, the Egyptians stopped shooting fireballs.

They continued to hide behind the boat's side, shooting with bows and arrows and people on the shore.

Obviously, like the Tyr in the city, they were unwilling to use a catapult like a killer to deal with individual soldiers.

The battle ceased after the sunset retracted the last golden light projected onto the sea.

Under the night, in the center of the Grand Arena, the senior officers were eating and drinking happily.

Although the tentative attack in the evening failed, it was expected, and the enemy's defense was successfully detected, which was not a failure.

It was a smooth capture of the outer city wall, which made everyone very excited.

Danny raised his glass and said, "I suggest toast to us for our successful capture of the outer wall."

Everyone cheered and raised their glasses to drink together.

Then Roger wiped the wine from his beard and began to concentrate on tasting the grilled fish in front of him.

The fish was sent from Lake Galilee with Rollo's intelligence.

While eating, Roger recalled the situation reported by the messenger sent by Rolo.

The messenger said: "We have successfully restrained the Turks who came to help Tyr.

“Now both sides are camping on the grasslands by Lake Galilee.

“The Turks sent envoys into our camp.

"The messenger did not mention the matters of Damascus and the Tyr defensive alliance at all.

"After highlighting his alliance with the Kingdom of Jerusalem, he explained that their army was pressing against each other, just to take a walk."

Roger thought, the reason for taking a shit is really far-fetched.

But the reasons and other reasons are irrelevant, and everyone knows the truth.

As long as they could quickly defeat Tyr, the Damascus people would walk back to their hometown in a walk.

And if they fail or get stuck in the city of Tyr, the Damascus will tear off the fig leaf as thin as a veil.

Roger shook his head and put his concerns aside, and he believed that he would win.

He turned his attention back to grilled fish.

The fish is freshly roasted and sprinkled with lemon juice. It is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the meat is delicious.

At the long wooden table, Usman was showing off his knowledge to Shana.

He said: "What we eat now is not ordinary fish.

“This is the holy trace of Jesus—Peter Fish.

"The Bible records that Jesus asked his apostle Peter to catch one of each fish in Lake Galilee.

“Peter caught 153.

"So, later generations called the fish produced in Lake Galilee 'Peter fish'."

Roger knew this story, and he thought, in a sense, this is probably the earliest biodiversity investigation recorded in plain text.

Shana's reaction was a little different, she patted her chest and said:

“I was shocked when I heard the fish was called ‘Peter’.

“I thought the fish in the Holy Land were different from other places, and were believed in Jesus and given the name of the church.

"I'm still thinking, what to do now, I've eaten half of it."

Everyone laughed, and even Smith, who had always been taciturn, became interested.

He pointed to the red wine and unfermented bread on the table and said:

"Then you have to eat some more blood and flesh of Jesus, so that in your belly, Jesus can continue to preach to His apostle Peter."

The banquet ended in a lively atmosphere, and then everyone turned to discuss matters.

Roger first raised the question, saying, "Everyone, what do you want to say about the defense of the Tirs?"

Shana first jumped up and said, "We suffered a great loss in the tentative attack this evening."

Smith nodded and added: "Indeed, it is impossible to rush up by them when they attacked from three sides."

Shana also said: "It's not okay to shoot against their warships on the coast, and she suffers a lot.

"The people scattered and there was no threat to the battleship at all, but once they got together, their fireballs hit."

Danny added: "Those warships are simply fearless, only a few dozen steps away from the shore, but our infantry can't do anything to them.

"The infantry can't swim in armor. Even if someone who knows how to swim off their armor, they can't climb onto their high ship side."

Usman suggested: "Why do you prepare some chisels and let the soldiers who know how to sink their ships?"

Roger shook his head and said, "The Egyptians' main fleet will not even have this little defense.

"I saw fishing nets on the Egyptians' boats. In addition to fishing, it is probably also used to guard against people who are swimming near the water."

Smith suggested: "Let's make some trenchers, shoot against warships on the shore and sink them."

Roger shook his head and said, "The catapult is too big and cannot be hidden. When the Egyptians see that we have a catapult, the warships will not chase after us."

"Then let's push the trencher up and smash their walls," Smith said.

Shana said: "It's all done when we push it up. When our trenchers reach their walls, their trenchers can hit us.

"Then their warships rushed out and attacked from three sides."

Shana gestured with the bowls that were not taken away from the table:

"Look, this is our trencher, now it turns to the left.

"And the enemy ship on the left is already far from its range.

"At this time, the enemy ship on the right and the catapult behind the city wall were attacking it.

"The same goes for the other way around, how can I fight this?"

Smith said with a calm face: "Indeed, the key trenchers move too slowly, far less flexible than their battleships."

"So I didn't think about using a trencher at the beginning," Roger said.

Then he turned to Zarro and asked, "How much black powder is left now?"

Zarro replied: "Today, half of the city wall was used to blow up, and the sulfur and saltpeter reserves were sufficient. I was still leading people to burn charcoal and try to make up for it as soon as possible."

Roger nodded and said, "Half is enough, but don't stop production, there will always be a time to be useful."

Then he said to Usman: "Now we are going to use our secret weapon."

Usman said in surprise: "Are you talking about those long wooden barrels tightly wrapped by iron bars?

"That's really a weapon? Are you kidding me?"

Roger said seriously: "This is indeed a weapon, but it has fatal flaws and once arranged, it cannot be moved.

"I plan to use it to create a trap. Seeing the enemy warships look arrogant today, they should be caught.

"But there is only one chance. Once the expected results are not achieved, the enemy will be prepared, and it will be difficult to deceive them.

"I haven't said it before, and I didn't even mention it when I was discussing the matter in the main hall. I just fear that someone would leak the news, so the weapon would not work."

Then Roger began to issue orders.

He asked Danny to lead the soldiers and dig holes on the coast where he launched an attack with the enemy warship today under the cover of night.

He described the size and shape of the pit in detail.

Danny received the order, and at the same time he reminded: "Water will accumulate in the pit."

"So asphalt is needed," Roger said.

He told Usman: "Heat the asphalt, let it soften and apply it to the periphery of all barrels so that it can be waterproof."

Usman nodded and said, "I understand, as the Bible says, put on Moses' basket, right?"

Roger nodded, and then he ordered Sarrow:

“I need you to wrap black powder in two specifications with sackcloth.

"One is to keep it loose and put it directly at the bottom of the bucket."

Roger said this, and he turned to Smith and said:

“I need you to make some wooden plates or iron sheets that are the same as the diameter of the barrel and cover them on the gunpowder at the bottom of the barrel.

"A hole should be left on the wooden plate or iron sheet, insert a hole that reaches the mouth of the barrel, hollow, stuffed with black gunpowder, and a pipe made of wood or iron sheet is not very delicate, just use it."
To be continued...
