Chapter 46: Isis Lair
Not long after Lawrence left, Danny ran along the way to Roger with a secret letter.
He gasped and said, "It's from Egypt."
Roger took the secret letter with a cautious look on his face.
He thought that Egypt's jihad had changed in new ways.
However, to Roger's surprise, Muttier did not mention the war in the letter at all.
Muttier showed off in the letter: "There is no language I can't handle except the mysterious language of the East.
"Sir, I have deciphered the secret letter you gave to me in Tripoli, written in Egyptian pictograms."
Roger remembered that it was the letter he found in the castle of the Countess in Tripoli, from the room of the Egyptian witch Isis, who was disguised as the countess's personal maid.
In the letter, Muttier wrote: "I now know where the Isis family's nest is.
"They are in the city northeast of Cairo, Farama.
"That city is on the banks of the Nile River, three days away from Ross, and is one of the largest cities in the Kingdom of Egypt.
“The people there generally worship the goddess Isis, and the Isis family is the craziest of them.
“They believe they are direct descendants of the goddess Isis, so every female member is named ‘Isis’.
"In that family, women are gods, high above, men have no status at all, but humble servants and tools to help reproduce.
“Based on the deciphered intelligence, I was able to contact the father of Isis in Tripoli.
"The man's name is Gab, who is good at dissecting corpses and making mummies, and is in a high position among the servants of the Isis family.
"But Geb seemed very dissatisfied with his situation. After contacting me, he expressed his willingness to defect to us and provide us with information.
“I am now preparing to go to the city of Farrama as a scholar in the Cairo Grand Library.
“I’m going to meet Gabe and develop him into my downline.
"Add to say that this academic identity is very respected in Egypt. This was personally granted to me by the director of the Great Library and a true manifestation of my strength."
Roger was holding the letter paper, he was a little worried.
He felt that Muttier seemed to be having too much fun, and he simply regarded himself as 007.
He actually went to Farama to develop a downline, which was the nest of the Isis family, who had a grudge against him.
Even though the man named "Geb" was not going well, he was the father of Isis who died because of himself.
Roger was worried that this was just a conspiracy, and that Gabb deliberately lured Muttier to go in order to avenge his daughter.
However, he now had no other way except to worry.
Muttier was far away from him in Egypt and could not help. He only hoped that Muttier's identity as a scholar in Cairo's Grand Library could provide him with some protection.
One morning a few days later, Roger came to the woods outside Ashkillen as agreed with Lawrence.
He was fully armed and led the entire guard to talk to Baldwin "alone".
However, at the agreed location, he did not see Baldwin, but only saw Lawrence who was wandering in place.
Lawrence looked anxious and said after seeing Roger: "Badwin has set out for Egypt."
Roger said in surprise: "What? Have you agreed to his expedition?"
Lawrence shook his head violently and said, "Of course I don't agree, we firmly disagree!"
He said slowly, "But Baldwin suddenly left us aside and set off in the early morning with 216 cavalry, 400 infantry, a camel caravan, and a full truck of supplies."
Roger covered his forehead with his hands and said, "Will you stop him?"
Lawrence said in annoyance: “We were deceived by Baldwin.
“We thought he gathered these men and arranged vans full of supplies just for the preparations for this safari.
“And Baldwin did come here with us at the beginning.
"But on the way he suddenly said that he forgot something in the camp and wanted to go back to get it, so he took the troops and turned around.
"We thought he would come after taking the things, but we didn't expect that after waiting here for a long time, we didn't see him.
“When we sent someone back to the camp to inquire, we realized that Baldwin hadn’t returned to the camp at all.
"He led the troops and disappeared like this."
Roger asked in confusion: "How do you know that Baldwin is going to attack Egypt?"
Lawrence said: "It was our inner man who left clues.
“At that time, we sent people to search Baldwin and his troops everywhere.
"As a result, on the side of the road to the southwest, I found a small piece of parchment with words written on it.
“There is a scribble on it: ‘Egypt’.
"That must be the message left by our inner supporters in a hurry."
Roger said with emotion: "Badwin is so crazy. He dares to attack Egypt with such a few people?!"
Lawrence echoed: "That's right, it's because he has few people that we let him leave our sight. Unexpectedly..."
Roger asked, "Now, what are you going to do?"
Lawrence said: "We nobles had an urgent discussion just now and decided to take the troops to chase Baldwin.
"Although I don't know which path he takes, I must have gone to Egypt.
"We chased him like a net, and we should be able to find him."
Roger asked, "Then, can you catch up with him? Can you persuade him to come back?"
Lawrence hesitated and said, "This... no matter what, we must find him first."
Roger reminded: "Have you ever thought that there is such a possibility:
“Badwin just wants you to chase him.
"When your nobles lead their troops to catch up with him, they are probably not far from Egypt.
"At that time, he used his prestige to bypass you and directly ordered your soldiers to follow him and attack Egypt.
"At that time, even if you don't agree, you have no choice."
Lawrence was stunned and exclaimed: "Oh my God, you're right, why didn't we expect it?
“Badwin must have played this idea!
"Otherwise, with his 616 troops, how could he dare to attack Egypt, and how could he capture Egypt's cities?
"No, we can't be fooled by him!
"I will tell other nobles now and let them stop searching towards Egypt."
Lawrence ran away in a hurry.
Roger, who had nothing to do, returned to Ashkillen City with his personal guards.
After entering the city, he saw Danny and his soldiers promoting each other from door to door.
Roger sent someone to call Danny and asked, "Are you all very resistant to our decision to leave our hometown and move to Sicily?"
Danny said proudly: "Fortunately, there were some opposition at the beginning, but after I explained, they stopped talking."
Roger asked curiously: "How did you explain to them?"
Danny said: “I told them that Sicily implements a policy of religious tolerance.
“I promised them that they would never force them to change their faith.
"This has let them go of a lot of concerns."
Roger didn't believe it, he said, "It's that simple?"
Danny smiled and said, "I also said that we Normans will go back to Sicily after all. When we leave, we will hand over the city of Ashkiron to the Kingdom of Jerusalem."
Roger said dissatisfiedly: "You should know my plan. I have no intention of handing over Ashkiron to Jerusalem."
Danny laughed and said, "Yes, I know, but there is no need to tell the locals here about your plans.
"The people here are hostile to Jerusalem for many years, and they have deep resentment between each other.
“They are all worried that the Christians in Jerusalem will seek revenge.
"So I've concealed your plans, so that they'll be willing to leave here and go to Sicily."
