Chapter 80 Extra Story: The Adventures of Teenagers 33 Sulfur Dioxide

In the dead of night, the breeze passed over the lake, bringing a touch of coolness to the valley like a soup pot.

In a spacious place by the lake, there was a little blue flame swaying, reflecting two busy black figures on the side.

"Ahem, do you know the story of Jesus turning water into wine? Add some sulfur."

Roger looked at the stone wall and the sentry on the cliff in the distance. Maybe the flames were too small to detect, maybe the smoke in the valley that didn't stop day and night covered them, maybe the guards were lazy and fell asleep, and no one paid attention to them.

.

There was a wooden basin in front of Roger, filled with water.

There was a bowl-shaped sunken stone between the tub and Roger, and a pool of thick black liquid was burning in the depression.

The blue flames were swaying, and there was no smoke, but a pungent smell filled the air.

Roger knew it was sulfur dioxide, a colorless, irritating, poisonous gas.

He knew that inhaling high concentrations of sulfur dioxide could cause poisoning.

After poisoning, it will irritate the nose and throat, causing obvious upper respiratory tract discomfort and persistent coughing.

Severe cases can cause laryngeal edema, pulmonary edema and other fatal diseases.

So Roger stood carefully upwind, holding a wooden board as a fan, and fanned the invisible sulfur dioxide into the water.

Dulles on the side was stirring the water with a long wooden stick. After listening to Roger's words, he took some light yellow sulfur powder and put it in the depression.

The powder quickly melts into a bright liquid, then thickens and turns black, and finally becomes the fuel for a blue flame like a melted candle.

Dulles continued to stir the water with a wooden stick. He said, "I haven't heard that story. Let me tell you."

Roger kept fanning himself.

He said: “The scripture records in the Gospel of John: There was a wedding feast in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.

“Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the banquet.

“When the wine ran out, Jesus’ mother asked Jesus to get some wine.

"She said to her servants, 'Whatever he tells you, do it.'

“According to the Jewish custom of purification, six stone jars were placed there, each of which could hold two or three buckets of water.

"Jesus said to the servant, 'Fill the jar with water.'

“And they filled the jar to the brim.

"Jesus also said, 'Now scoop it out and give it to the master of the banquet.'

"They sent it off.

“When the master of the banquet tasted the wine that the water had turned into, he did not know where it came from; only the servants who scooped out the water knew.

"The master of the banquet called the bridegroom and said to him, 'The good wine is always served first, and then the last wine is served after the guests have had their fill; but you have kept the good wine until now!'

“This was the first of Jesus’ miracles, which he performed in Cana of Galilee, showing his glory, and his disciples believed in him.

"Add more sulfur powder."

Dulles complied and said, "What you are using now is Jesus' method of turning wine into wine?"

Roger said with a "hehe" smile: "If Jesus brought these sulfurous acid to the banquet, it would not be a miracle, it would be a tragedy."

The two of them have been busy for a long time.

Roger sniffed the basin of water. The pungent smell was suffocating and his eyes hurt from the smoke.

He said: "It's almost time. Bring your bottle."

Dulles cooperated with Roger to fill the basin of sulfurous acid solution with sulfur dioxide dissolved in it.

Roger capped the bottle tightly.

Roger said: "This thing must be packed in a sealed container. Without the bottle Heller gave me, I really can't save it."

"When are you going to take it in?"

"Tomorrow night, there is a guard who has completely convinced me. Tomorrow it will be his turn to monitor me closely.

"And this thing won't last long. How's the mining going?"

"Everyone is working hard. Don't worry, we will work for another day tomorrow. The sulfur ore we have saved is enough to surprise Heller."

"The delivery of ore must be slow tomorrow, until Heller has left.

"In this way, the news of the surge in daily output can be reported to Heller the day after tomorrow.

"I will go in and wait for him early the day after tomorrow. I must make him think that this is my credit."

"This is all your credit. Without your instructions, who would be willing to work so hard to help him mine."

"I just hope this news will make him happy enough to reward me with wine. Alas, no matter how much we do, we still have to rely on luck in the end."

"Let's do our part and leave the rest to Jesus."

"Yeah, I hope Jesus can bless us."

When the sun once again penetrated the white fog and yellow smoke and sprinkled the valley, the slaves burst out with crazy enthusiasm for work.

According to Roger's estimation, the mine handed over that afternoon was 1.5 times that of previous days.

The slaves didn't finish paying until after dinner time.

After sunset, Roger waited under the city wall early in the morning, and the hanging basket was put down early.

Roger greeted the guards waiting for him:

"Peter, please allow me to call you by your Christian name. According to the agreement I made with you during the day, I will come to hear your confession."

"Praise the Lord, and thank you, my godfather, for re-baptizing me and for being willing to hear my confession."

"Peter, I baptized you and listened to your confession, all to save you and help you get rid of your past sins and become a good person again. Are you ready?"

"Yes, I am ready. I will repent of my sins and look forward to being born again."

"Well, let's go to Heller's cabin. No one will disturb us there."

"Yes, Godfather, this way."

The two entered Heller's cabin. Roger was not in a hurry to add spices to Heller's wine. He listened carefully to the confession of guard Peter.

Although most of them were trivial, and although Roger wanted Peter to finish talking and do things earlier, he still listened patiently and listened without saying a word.

He said: "The Lord will forgive you."

Peter burst into tears. When he wiped away his tears and stood up, he was a new man.

Roger took a sip of Heller's wine, which was sour and astringent.

He thought, Heller could still drink it so deliciously every morning. What a bad taste.

Then he thought, maybe what Heller drank was not the wine, but the feeling, the feeling of being a big shot.

Roger asked Peter to help, and together they added spices to Heller's wine.

Peter sniffed the spiked wine, frowned and said:

"Godfather, if you want to poison Heller, I'm afraid this won't work. He won't drink the strong taste."

Roger comforted him: "I have no intention of poisoning Heller. Peter, you have been reborn, and I will not let you sin again in front of me. You just need to do some auxiliary things for me."

Then the two of them went out.

Roger continued to please Norton and his men like a dog, flattering himself in order to get the food he asked for.

He brought back as much bread as he could, and Peter helped with some.

On the way back, Roger told Peter:
