Chapter Seven Dolls
The burning green flames were gradually fading away, and the surrounding sea surface began to calm down.
After confirming from the goat's head that the "Lost Country" had left the dangerous sea area and could sail on its own, Duncan took his hand off the dark steer wheel. He was lowering his head at this moment. What he saw in his eyes was the body that had recovered his flesh and blood, and the deck of the Lost Country that had returned to its original state after the green fire was extinguished.
But in the dark, he had a feeling that many things were different.
He could feel that the moment he held the steer wheel of the Lost Country, something changed. The green flame connected him with the ship, and even connected him with the sea. Even though the flames had retreated now, he could still feel this invisible connection and every detail on the big ship under his feet.
Duncan slowly closed his eyes. He heard a faint murmur from the deep and dim corridor in the Lost Country. The murmur was filled with an inexplicable sense of intimacy. He saw that the lantern in the captain's room had been lit at some point, and the pale light was jumping in the glass lampshade. He heard the sound of waves hitting the hull. There seemed to be a deep gaze hidden under the waves, but when he tried to find the source of the gaze, the latter hid his own existence as if consciously...
Duncan opened his eyes and exhaled softly. The veil-like fog-like sail on the mast of the Lost Country was swelling and he walked towards the stairs leading to the deck, and the ropes beside the stairs squirmed back to both sides.
He understood that after choosing to take over the steering wheel, he was the real captain of the ship.
"Captain, we are floating from the edge of the spiritual world and will soon return to the real world," the voice of the goat's head came from the side, but this time it was not through the copper tube used for communication on the ship, but appeared directly in Duncan's mind. When talking about the serious matter, it seemed much more serious and not so noisy. "We are lucky. At the deepest time, we only 'swayed' at the bottom of the spiritual world, and were almost unaffected by the depth."
The real world, the spiritual seas, the deep seas, and the sub-spaces that seem to be deeper... Duncan's mind saw these strange words appearing one after another in front of him. He knew that these words were pointing to the real situation of this strange world, but he still didn't know what the real meaning of these words was.
However, listening to the voice of Goat Head when he called him "captain", Duncan always vaguely felt that the other party's tone had some subtle changes. He even suspected that even if he said the identity of "Zhou Ming", the Goat Head would still obey his orders - this was the change that occurred after he had taken over the steering wheel and successfully recovered from the "green fire".
But after hesitating a little, he did not make any attempts in this regard, nor did he ask the Goat Head about the spiritual world, the depth and the subspace.
If it were a few days ago, he was indeed in anxiety and uneasiness. At that time, he was eager to figure out his situation, but now he seems to be in a hurry.
In this world, there are other "people", other ships, an orderly society, and other civilizations, which is enough to make him have many hopes for the future out of thin air, and even some "plans" that are still quite vague.
In his random thoughts, Duncan recalled the details of his encounter with the ship that suddenly emerged from the thick fog, the striking chimney on the ship, and the mechanical structures that appeared directly in his mind when it intersected with the Lost Country.
"It was a mechanically powered ship... and the Lost Country looks like a sailing warship from the last era..." Duncan muttered to himself, "But that's not exactly a mechanical ship..."
There are some cabins of unknown significance on the ship, and the cabins are arranged like some kind of sacrificial scene. There are many strange patterns and symbols on the keel of the hull, such as decoration, but it exceeds the need for decoration.
"Goat Head," Duncan suddenly spoke. He didn't know what the goat head was, so he subconsciously said the name in his mind. "When he 'interchanged' with that ship just now, the man who looked like the captain shouted at me. What did he say?"
The goat head seemed to care nothing about the captain's name for himself, and it accepted it happily and quickly replied: "The wind and waves are too big to hear clearly."
"You didn't hear it clearly?" Duncan frowned, "...I always felt that his expression was as tragic as if he was about to die with me. What he shouted should be quite important."
"It is not worth making a fuss about the normal reaction of human beings to die with you, especially the normal reaction of sea sailors. And their roar in front of the swaying tree does not require you to pay attention to..."
The goat head's reply seemed very natural. Duncan, who was walking up the deck from the stairs, almost shook his feet. He shook his lips in shock: "Is it a normal human reaction to die with me?"
As soon as he finished speaking, he felt something was wrong, because it seemed to be exposing the loopholes in his identity as the "captain", and he did not understand his own "self". This may be because the green fire had consumed too much energy just now, or the feeling of integrating with the Lost Country weakened his vigilance. In any case, this made Duncan a little nervous in an instant - but the goat head seemed to have not noticed it at all.
"It's normal for them to fear you," the tone of the goat head seemed a little proud. "Anyone who sailed on the vast sea should fear you, just as they feared the old gods and shadows in subspaces. Speaking of shadows, you know that there was an outstanding engineer...or maybe an agriculturalist or a foodie once said something..."
Duncan rationally did not take on this topic because he was worried that he would not be able to make it happen if the topic continued (of course, the more important reason was that he was really unwilling to pay attention to the goat head, because as long as someone responded, the degree of noise would increase in geometric proportions), and the next second, he was distracted by another thing on the deck.
"...What's this?" Duncan stood at the edge of the deck and looked at the thing at the door of the captain's room in astonishment.
It was a wooden box that was more than one person long, with very exquisite workmanship. The unknown gloomy wood was stitched together tightly and riveted with metal like gold. The inscribed complex patterns can be seen at the edge of the box, like words, or like pictographic symbols after deliberate distortion - this box is definitely not something on the Lost Country! Duncan had never seen it when he left the captain's room before!
The voice of the goat's head was silent for a moment and then rang out: "...I don't know it, but it should be a spoil..."
"Treasure?!" Duncan didn't react at once. He walked around the box twice. "How come this thing looks like a coffin, but it's much more exquisite than an ordinary coffin... Wait, trophy, what do you mean is this thing "made" from the ship just now?!"
"A successful hunt, captain," the goat head said in a serious tone, with a complimentary tone in the middle, "You always return with a full load every time you sail, which is normal."
Duncan subconsciously opened his mouth, thinking that he had no intention of getting things off the other person's boat. What kind of hunting and "returning with a full load" was this?
But when he thought about it, he was afraid that this would not fit his image as a "captain". More importantly, the mechanical ship had disappeared deep in the sea fog at this moment. Thinking of the white-bearded captain's eyes as if he was about to die together, he thought that this thing should be unable to be sent back, so he could only press all his words back into his stomach.
He stood in front of the gorgeous wooden box that looked like a coffin, and noticed that the lid of the thing seemed to be loose and looked like it could be opened in one hand.
After hesitating for a while, he placed his hand on the lid of the wooden box - at least, he had to figure out what he had brought to the ship by the "spiritual boat" just now.
His body was stronger than he thought, and the lid was not as powerful as he thought. He almost exerted a little force, and the dark-looking box lid rose a crack, and then it was completely lifted by him.
Duncan looked inside the box, stunned.
"one person?"
In the wooden box, a beautiful young woman was quietly lying. Her long silver hair was spread in the box like mercury. Her appearance was exquisite and flawless, and she faintly had a noble and transcendent demeanor. She was wearing a gorgeous purple-black palace dress and her hands were folded in front of her, as if she was in a long sleep.
Perfect like a doll.
"No, this is really a doll!"
During a closer observation, Duncan suddenly noticed the other party's Nafi human joint structure.
