Chapter three hundred and sixteen, the danger of Mexico

Soon, the Vatican received a reply from the French diocese. The French diocese believed that it was the responsibility of the Vatican to determine whether a religious sect was a heresy, and the French diocese had no objection to this.

This means that the French gave the green light to the Holy See the Holy See the Holy See the heresy when it was exercising its own power, which was really embarrassing. However, this is not the first time in the Holy See, especially in matters related to France. The heresy of the Knights Templars was the French king who claimed that who was heresy?

Therefore, after receiving the reply from the French diocese, the Holy See did not feel much humiliation, but was very happy, because it meant that they were free to make rulings in their own interests.

The Roman Inquisition immediately launched an investigation into the incident and soon understood the matter. This "revolutionary theology" discovered in Spain was circulated from the Americas.

"What is the Mexican referee doing? They failed to discover such things and failed to take action. You must know that when such heresy remarks cross the Atlantic Ocean and return to the old continent, it is definitely not a question of one or two on the New World. It's like if you find a cockroach in a room, there will definitely not be only one cockroach in the room, but there will be cockroaches everywhere." Cardinal Domingo himself is Spanish, and of course he understands how threatening such thoughts are to appear in America and Spain.

So Cardinal Domingo immediately proposed to the Pope to declare "liberation theology" a heresy, and immediately sent special envoys to various dioceses to urge them to investigate relevant heresies to protect the "Flock of God". In particular, special envoys should be sent to America and the Mexican Inquisition immediately, otherwise, there might be big problems in America.

In addition to the headquarters of Rome, the Inquisition has two crucial branches. In fact, in terms of history, these two branches are actually earlier than the Inquisition in Rome.

The first branch was the Spanish Inquisition. It was established in the time of Queen Isabella. With the support of Her Majesty the Spanish Inquisition and Her Majesty the Queen worked together to change color for the first time in history.

Another branch is the Mexican Quarter. Its history is equally long and it appeared even earlier than the Roman Quarter. During the Spanish conquest of America, the Catholic Church and the Mexican Quarter helped a lot.

In a sense, the interests of the Holy See are deeply bound to the interests of Spain. This is especially true after the revolutionary mobs broke out in France.

So Cardinal Domingo's suggestion was immediately adopted, and the Holy See quickly passed a resolution, proclaiming "revolutionary theology" as "cursive heresy", and immediately sent special envoys to various dioces.

The most important of these envoys was the envoys sent to America. Because there were no such heresy in other dioceses; or even if there were heresy, it was not the Holy See's turn to take charge.

The envoy sent to America was Bishop Carlos, the nephew of Cardinal Domingo. He was born into a Spanish noble family. He had worked in the diocese of Mexico before and was relatively familiar with the situation there.

After receiving the task, Bishop Carlos, after asking Cardinal Domingo for advice, immediately set off for Mexico. He knew that the fastest way to go to America was not to take a boat from Spain to America, but to find a cargo ship from France that was willing to take people.

So he went directly to Lehavre Port, where he could find the clippers to the Americas.

For ordinary people, the scissors are very unsuitable for boats to ride. Because it is really swaying too much. However, the Holy See is very worried that in the Americas, the losses caused by heresy are too great, so it requires Bishop Carlos to arrive as soon as possible. Bishop Carlos himself also hopes to gain a higher status through this incident and his family. So he is willing to endure hardships. In addition, he has been out of the sea many times and can hold on his own. So he came up with such a solution.

However, although there are many flying scissors to America, it still takes time to find a reliable and suitable one. If you accidentally board a pirate ship that is not very reliable, and the sea is vast, it will be really...

However, Bishop Carlos successfully found a reliable ship. It was a clipper that belonged to Stephen Gillard. The ship had long-term contacts between France and Mexico and was relatively reliable. More importantly, Carlos recognized the captain of the ship, Lopez.

Captain Lopez's ship will take two days to go out to sea, so Bishop Carlos has to wait. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Bishop Carlos talked about what happened in North America today with Captain Lopez. During the conversation, Bishop Carlos mentioned "revolutionary theology".

"Ah, I know this thing." Captain Lopez said, "It was made by the lunatics in Louisiana. Well, priest, you may not know that the French passed the "Houseland Law" in order to develop Louisiana. Any man, as long as he can speak French, is that everyone on my ship can be considered as speaking French and willing to swear allegiance to France, can apply to the French government for a piece of land in Louisiana. It is a considerable piece of land, with more than a hundred acres! You can get ownership by farming for a few years, or by paying a small amount of money at one time.

It is said that the French also gave the prisoners who were imprisoned in prison a choice whether to be a farmer in Louisiana or feed mice in prison. So many criminals were also thrown into Louisiana. I heard that some extreme Jacobins were exiled there.

They created such a "revolutionary theology" there. It is said that there are many madmen who believe in such "revolutionary theology". They gathered together in the north of Louisiana, bought a piece of land from the eldest son, and established their own villages and towns. I heard that they established their own church organization there, called "the tabernacle of God". That means, "the tabernacle of God is to be built on earth."

Their practices there are really similar to those of the early apostles recorded in the Bible. All of them donated all their property to the church. Inside the cities they established, it is said that they don’t have money for food or anything else, and they are all allocated by the church. The members of the church were democratically elected. Well, these guys really know how to play."

"Are there many people joining them?" asked Bishop Carlos.

"No, not much. Everyone can get land from the government, why do you have to give up your personal property and join them?" Captain Lopez shook his head, "Who trusts them with serious people? But I heard that they have brought a lot of people from the old continent. In addition, some poor Mexicans are willing to run to them. They can give them French, and then arrange for them to pass the assessment and swear allegiance..."

"Then join them with the land?" Bishop Carlos smiled.

"Not necessarily, it depends on their voluntary." Captain Lopez said, "As far as I know, there are not many voluntary ones. But there are still some. Because they have some advantages compared to those who work alone. For example, they can concentrate money to do things that other single-handed ones cannot do. For example, the irrigation of their land is the best. Well, when I came here, I heard that they were going to build a power plant, which may be the first power plant in North America. In addition, I also heard that they had a lot of interactions with the Indians and made a lot of money. I heard that their lives were pretty good."

"These damn heretics!" Carlos thought in his heart.

"Captain, are these people going out to preach?"

"Of course. Have you ever seen any church that doesn't go out to preach? But in Louisiana, there are not many people willing to pay attention to them. But I heard that in Mexico, there are many Indians and poor people who are willing to listen to them."

When Carlos heard this, he couldn't help but make a slap in his heart. He asked again, "Will the Inquisition ignore them?"

The Inquisition mentioned here certainly refers to the Mexican Inquisition. Compared with those inquisitions in Europe that have been forced to civilize, the Mexican Inquisition still has a lot of coercive power. In the Americas, Spanish rule cannot be separated from Catholicism, and Catholicism also relies on the Spanish authorities to gain an impossible status in Europe. Although theoretically, the Mexican Inquisition has been civilized and no longer has the power to directly sentence others to imprisonment or even death. But just like Calvin did not rely on religious courts in Geneva, but used municipal authorities to burn Seervette to death, the Mexican Inquisition also influenced the secular courts and allowed them to deal with heretics and pagans according to their own wishes.

"Mexican Inquisition? How can they treat the French?" Captain Lopez sneered. "Although the guys in the 'Tabion of God's Tabernacle' are unpopular in France, they are French, and will the Inquisition dare to treat them? At most they are targeted at the following guys who listen to these French missionaries. But how can this work be better?"
