Chapter 5 Back to the Village

Qiao Xuan also saw the pair of footprints, which were wide and big. At first glance, they belonged to an adult man.

"How about I help you calculate and see if you can get it back?" Seeing Xi Yan's sad look, she couldn't help but ask.

"No need! Just throw it away if you lose it. Things that have been taken away will be dirty when you bring them back. Xiaoyan, don't take them." Xi He said before Xi Yan could say anything.

Xi Yan bit her lip, her eyes were moist, and she nodded.

Seeing this, Qiao Xuan said nothing more. She knew Xi He's concerns. The villagers in this village were indeed unruly, and he was thinking about their safety.

"We have one room each in the three rooms here, and we can clean our own."

"Thank you, Miss Qiao, for taking me in." Xi He solemnly bowed to Qiao Xuan. There are many lovers in the world who are unfaithful, and there are very few who offer help in times of need.

After the three of them tidied up, Xi He took out six cold meat buns from his bag, two for each person.

Qiao Xuan went to rest after eating.

Brother and sister Xi He were talking quietly in the courtyard, and Xi Yan was telling Xi He what happened last night.

After finishing speaking, Xi Yan was quiet for a while and then thought about the group of villagers who came to the door aggressively yesterday, "Brother, the villagers here are really fierce!"

"Everyone, young or old, looks sarcastic and can attack anyone at any time."

Xi He's thin lips tightened into a line, his deep eyes were full of coldness, and his slender fingers rubbed the hair of his sister who looked sad.

"Give me some more time, brother, and I will take you out of here."

His voice was deep and pleasant, but it made Xi Yan feel regretful and red-eyed again. She had added a burden to her brother. He was already in a difficult situation, and she should not be a burden to him.

"I believe in brother!" she said softly.

"Everything will pass, and life will get better," Xi He said quietly, as if he was speaking to his sister as well as to himself.

From time to time, one or two villagers passed by outside the yard, looking at Xi He and Xi Yan brother and sister without hesitation.

Occasionally, a few malicious glances fell on Xi Yan, and Xi Yan was so frightened that she hid behind Xi He.

A trace of patience flashed across Xi He's handsome face, and he said to Xi Yan in a warm voice: "Go back to the house! I will go to the mountain to cut some wood to repair the house and surround it."

"Brother, let me go with you!"

Xu knew that Xi He would be busy in the town before he could stay in the village for long. Xi Yan cherished the time with him and didn't want him to be burdened alone.

In the past, at home, Xi He would only focus on studying, which was the hope of the whole family. He had never done such menial work.

"No need! Just be obedient and go back to the house."

Xi He pushed his sister into the room, picked up an old ax from the yard and went out.

Qiao Xuan was woken up by a clanking sound. She rubbed her eyes and sat up from the bed. She walked for a while before leaving the room.

The two brothers and sisters of the Xi family were busy working, and there were piles of wood scattered in the small yard.

"You're awake! My brother said he would fix the broken parts," Xi Yan explained with a smile after seeing Qiao Xuan.

"Is there anything I can do for you?"
