475. Who am I?
Nelly stared at the monster's footprints for half a minute.
"Well, it's hunting time now..."
She looked forward firmly, then tightened her grip on Mortavi's axe,
In this strange and familiar place, only the ax in her hand made her feel that it was real, and everything else was at the interface between dream and clarity.
But she doesn't care about the so-called reality at the moment. Sometimes, illusion may not be worthy of people's obsession.
The sky is the same as the world itself. It is at the transition between day and night. The sun has quietly returned to the other side of the planet, and night begins to occupy the sky and the earth.
Monsters are out and about.
There was a strange rustling sound in the woods, and it sounded like a group of predators passing through the trees and blueberry bushes on both sides.
But they are not the hunters today.
Nelly continued to follow the footprints, and as she moved forward, the mud prints on the ground became clearer and clearer. The monster's footprints were mixed with those of her father, making it difficult for her to distinguish which footprints belonged to whom.
The road has come to an end.
The plants on both sides slowly spread onto the path, and tree roots and shrubs blocked Nelly's direction.
This did not match her memory. People often passed by that path in the town, so it could not be overwhelmed by weeds and plants.
And the most important thing is that the footprints have not disappeared.
She raised her axe.
Chop.
Ax after ax.
Broken thorns and branches.
She kept moving forward.
Nothing can stop her.
She stepped over thick bulging tree roots and low shrubs, and slowly moved forward in the forest.
Nelly raised her hands numbly again and again, using the Ax of Mortavi to carve out a path of her own.
Unconsciously, a small black dot appeared in her field of vision.
She instinctively quickened her pace, not caring even if her pants were torn.
Nelly rushed towards the back.
It was an old man with a straight back.
Ogden Lester.
The man held a large-caliber shotgun with a length of 1.2 meters, and a short sword in the leather jacket on his left waist. He looked into the depths of the forest ahead without any intention of turning his head.
When she was about to approach her father, Nelly subconsciously slowed down again.
She came gently behind her father.
Ogden pointed forward:
"The prey ran there, do you still have the strength?"
Nelly replied softly:
"Um."
Ogden reached into the leather bag behind his back, took out a short-barreled shotgun, and handed it to Nelly behind him:
"Take it and use it to protect yourself when needed."
Although she already held Mortavi's ax in her hand, Nelly still let go of her hand and let Mortavi disappear, but the man handed him the short-barreled shotgun.
She asked cautiously:
"Where is it?"
Ogden said:
"It should be not far ahead. It can't run far."
Nelly said:
"What am I going to do?"
Ogden chuckled:
"If you see it, just let me know and I'll let you try shooting it next time we hunt some small, harmless game.
"For today, just leave everything to me."
Ogden leaned down and moved forward slowly:
"Follow me."
Nelly blinked.
At some point, the shrubs blocking him disappeared, and there was a flat ground in front of him, with only sparse weeds on the ground.
She followed her father.
Ogden said:
"Our prey is one of the most dangerous creatures in the world. They are cunning, insidious, and evil in nature. If we don't hunt them, the world will eventually be destroyed."
Nelly said doubtfully:
"what are they?"
Ogden replied succinctly:
"monster."
Suddenly a shadow flashed from Nelly's peripheral vision.
She glanced at Ogden. Her father didn't seem to notice the dark figure.
Ogden was still looking ahead.
Nelly hesitated for a while, then slowly said:
"I just saw something like a dark shadow over there."
Ogden nodded, then turned to the direction pointed by Nelly and moved quickly through the forest.
Nelly hurriedly followed, but she was surprised to find that she had to run almost as fast as she could to barely see the man's back.
Nelly staggered.
When she regained her balance, her father's back had disappeared.
boom!
Gunshots resounded across the sky.
She rushed forward in panic.
The hunter was standing in front of a corpse, gently wiping his shotgun and proudly declaring his victory.
There is a person lying on the ground.
She saw clearly.
It's another Ogden.
Nelly asked with a trembling voice:
"What the hell are you?"
The hunter turned around, revealing his pale cheeks without features:
"I am your father, Nelly, what's wrong?"
Nelly's voice trembled more violently, but it was not out of fear.
But angry.
"I'm asking you again, what are you? I'm not talking about a shapeshifter, a father or anything like that. I'm asking about your essence. How did you appear in my mind?"
The faceless man made a deep male voice:
"What am I? Don't you know? You created me, you raised me, you shaped me, and now you ask me what I am?
"I am a shapeshifter, I am a hunter, I am your father, I am Marlene, I am Raven, I am Snee..."
