3. Slender ghost
Jimmy is sixteen years old this year, and the person he admires most in town is Hevin.
In his memory, when he was a little boy, Hevin built a hut on the edge of the town.
His parents also told him that a cannibal wizard lived in that hut, and if Jimmy disobeyed, he would be thrown to the wizard.
Thinking of this, Jimmy smiled. Not only was Uncle Hevin not a wizard, in his eyes, Hevin was like the kind of hero who would thwart the evil wizard's conspiracy.
Jimmy looked at the red deer in the cart. This red deer was a surprise specially prepared by him to celebrate Jimmy's sister's successful admission to college.
He is now planning to hide it in his secret base.
Jimmy didn't explain to Hevin because he was afraid of leaking the news. His father was too embarrassed to trouble Hewen and had already gone to the city to prepare other food. The money spent on the red venison also came from Jimmy's own coffers.
Thinking of his sister, Jimmy couldn't help but snorted. Her sister was good at everything, but she always felt that Uncle Hewen was not as good as he said.
"snort!"
He saw with his own eyes the trophies in Uncle Hewen's house, including the 2-meter-wide antlers and the huge bear head.
Not to mention the people who occasionally come to see Uncle Hewen. They are all well-dressed and look like rich people in the city, but they are also polite when talking to Uncle Hewen.
Uncle Hevin must have been a legendary adventurer before, and he stayed in this small town for some reason.
Of course, the most important thing for Jimmy is that Hevin once scolded the bully who bullied him and even made him apologize to Jimmy sincerely.
Jimmy wants to be someone like Hevin, someone who can make bad guys retreat.
"call out!"
The sound of creatures moving through the forest sounded.
Jimmy circled around with some fear.
This road is surrounded by trees and shrubs, and there are not many people walking on it. However, because the town's hunters and law enforcement officers clean it regularly, it should be impossible for wild animals to appear here.
"Is anyone there?"
A low roar sounded like a wild beast.
Jimmy quickly pulled out the short knife from his waist. He had never really used this knife before.
Jimmy shouted:
"Go away! I'm not afraid of you!"
A tall and thin shadow appeared on the ground not far ahead. It seemed that Jimmy's roar did not scare it away, nor did it attract anyone's attention.
Jimmy swallowed. According to the hunters in the town, except for those who have lived in the wilderness since childhood, the remaining beasts that are not afraid of humans are extremely confident in their own strength.
Jimmy saw something he couldn't understand.
A long, pale arm stretched out from the shadows. The arm was a little out of proportion. It was neither human nor animal.
The boy didn't know if he was seeing a vision.
He saw the nails on the front of the five fingers of his arms slowly lengthening until they were more than ten centimeters long and then stopped. The moonlight was still reflected on the nails.
Jimmy believed it wouldn't take two seconds for that hand to tear him apart.
The monster gradually emerged from the shadows. Jimmy had never seen such a creature in his life, nor had he heard of such a thing.
Such a monster could not exist in the world, and he once again doubted the authenticity of the scene in front of him.
Half of the tall and thin figure poked out of the shadow. The half-bent figure was already 2 meters tall. Pale and dry skin covered the whole body. The most important thing was that the half of its exposed face had no facial features, only one that took up half of the face.
Huge mouthparts.
"Ahhhhhh!"
Jimmy finally collapsed, abandoned the car and turned around to run away, while the pale figure slowly followed Jimmy, dragging his slender body.
Jimmy could hear the sound of saliva dripping several times while he was running, and he even felt the gas erupting from his mouthparts passing through his neck, but it seemed to be just the wind blowing by.
He didn't even dare to look back to see if the other party was still following him.
Finally, he saw the light in the house. He rushed into the door without hesitation, slammed the door hard, and then turned to look out the window.
There was silence.
Nothing.
Jimmy let out a long breath. Even if he had a mental problem, it would be better than having a monster following behind him.
His mother should still be working in the store, his sister is studying in the city, and his father went shopping early in the morning and seems to have not returned yet.
Jimmy thought for a while, but still felt uneasy, and planned to go to the utility room in the backyard to take a look, where the only large-caliber rifle in their home was kept.
Jimmy walked towards the back door and was about to open it when he heard a dull cry of pain.
The sound disappeared so fleetingly that the young man once again doubted whether he was hallucinating.
Several noises were heard from the utility room. Jimmy turned and was about to rush out of the door, but then stopped.
If there really is a monster, who made the cry of pain?
Jimmy didn't dare to think about it anymore. After hesitating for a few seconds, he ran to his parents' room.
He hurriedly rummaged through the drawers in the room, took out a small revolver that had been out of date for many years, hurriedly loaded the bullet, and rushed back to the back door again.
Jimmy suddenly stopped at the door, took a deep breath, and whispered:
"You can do it, Jimmy. Think of Uncle Hevin. If it were him, he would definitely rush out and drive away the monster."
Jimmy opened the back door, tiptoed toward the utility room, and stopped in front of the utility room, which looked nothing out of the ordinary.
Jimmy held the gun in one hand and grabbed the door handle with the other, looking nervous but determined.
"Click!"
The door opened from the inside.
A fat figure appeared in front of Jimmy, and he almost pulled the trigger.
"Dad! What are you doing here."
Jimmy's father's body blocked the door, and the boy noticed that it was dark inside, with not even a spare oil lamp lit.
Jimmy didn't put down the pistol.
The fat dad said expressionlessly:
"Boy, didn't I go out this morning to buy things for your sister to prepare for the banquet? If not put in the utility room, why would you be holding a pistol?"
The middle-aged man looked at the boy doubtfully.
Jimmy breathed a sigh of relief, put his hands down, and asked:
"Dad, did you hear any strange noises?"
The middle-aged man smiled and said:
"Did you, kid, stay up late? There were no strange noises. The only sound was the sound of me putting things down."
Jimmy laughed out loud with relief:
"I've been in a bad state of mind for a few days. Dad, why don't you turn on the light when you put things away?"
Jimmy's father showed the usual "serious" expression he used to teach Jimmy, but because of his fat face, his seriousness never made people scared.
"Light money is not money, right? Go back to bed. You stay up late every day and talk so much."
Then the man kicked Jimmy, and Jimmy dodged it with a smile and ran back quickly.
After Jimmy returned to the room, closed the curtains and turned off the lights, the middle-aged man turned around and returned to the utility room.
