2. Stupid Donny Bullock

After agreeing on the delivery time with Downey, Allman left the bar. Korla Tavern was not big, with two floors, each floor covering more than 100 square meters of space.

In the lobby on the first floor, there are several brown wooden tables and chairs that have begun to turn red, and there is a bar. Behind the bar are various types of beer, rum, whiskey, etc.

In addition, there is a small storage room on the first floor, which is used to store all kinds of wine, and there is also a bathroom. There are three rooms upstairs, one for storing the tavern's sundries, a bedroom, and a bathroom.

Bathroom!

Originally, there was a bartender in the Korla Tavern, but as Prohibition approached, everyone believed that alcohol would disappear in the United States, so the bartender resigned early and went to work in the casino next door.

So now Donnie is the only one in the entire Korla Tavern.

Atlantic City is a tourist city, a purely tourist city, without any other industries. Taverns, casinos, brothels, boarding houses, and hotels are the mainstream here.

The main customers in Atlantic City are the blue-collar workers from Philadelphia, which is less than a hundred kilometers away!

"Are you the unlucky new owner of Korla Tavern?"

A white man wearing a low-quality cotton jacket, with thinning hair and a listless spirit wandered to the bar.

"Without me, I'm afraid you wouldn't be able to drink the wine you want!"

Downey put down the wine glass in his hand and looked at the other person, knowing that this man must be a worker from a factory in Philadelphia, an unlucky guy who used his weekend time to come to Atlantic City to try his luck.

"Ha!" The other party laughed and said, "That's right!"

After laughing, the other party said a little dejectedly: "Oh no, I will never come to Atlantic City again, it will only empty my wallet!"

Downey smiled and did not answer the other party's words. Such people will always just talk. By next weekend, they will definitely take the first train of the day and continue to Atlantic City!

"What to drink?"

"Have a glass of rum!" The other party put a quarter on the table.

Downey poured the other party a glass of rum and put the money in the drawer.

"Ha!" After the other party took a sip, his rough cheeks suddenly bloomed, and the previous depression disappeared, and he smiled: "My name is Ayton!"

Downey continued to nod.

Regarding Downey's silence, Ayton obviously didn't take it to heart and said with a smile: "Although I am reluctant to part with rum, I am still very happy. At least my children will be away from the trouble of alcohol in the future!"

Downey asked casually: "Do you have children?"

Ayton looked blank, then laughed and said: "There will always be!"

Donny didn't say anything else to the other party, he just looked at the customers who came in one after another. He was waiting for a customer.

Guests came in one after another, and left one after another, one after another. Every guest who walked in thought that there was not much time left until they could not drink.

Crazy.

So everyone asked for more drinks than before. Those who drank one drink before drank three drinks. Those who could walk out standing before could only be thrown out by Donnie.

Until late at night, when the last guest of the tavern left, Allman returned to the Korla Tavern with the weapons that Downey needed!

"With such a good business, do you really plan to close down for two months?"

Putting the Colt 1911 and the bullets on the bar openly, Allman couldn't help but asked curiously.

Downey still used the same reason as before to prevaricate Allman: "You always have to look further ahead!"

After finishing speaking, Downey handed the remaining $25 to Allman.

Allman picked up the banknotes and greedily sucked the taste of the dollar bills: "Okay, I told Nucky that for the next two months, Nucky will only charge you $25 per month, but in terms of time

There can’t be any questions!”

At this time, Downey had already picked up the pistol on the bar. There was a familiar feeling on the gun, and he smiled: "Of course!"

"As for the purchase of whiskey and rum you mentioned, I have already contacted good people for you. When are you going to get it?"

"The sooner the better!" Downey said impatiently. According to historical development, Atlantic City did not implement this constitution after Prohibition began. In other words, before that, the big guys in Atlantic City must have

This rule has been determined, so they will definitely be prepared in advance.

What Downey has to do now is to do it earlier than them.

Allman didn't say anything about Downey's decision. Anyway, someone wanted to die, so Allman was naturally going to move a chair, get a glass of whiskey and watch the fun!

"Very good, then I'll contact you tomorrow!"

After speaking, Allman stood up and left. Downey declined the invitation from Lisa, the brothel next to him, and locked the door of the pub inside.

The next day, Allman brought a man who was taller than him and equally chubby.

"This is William, William James, who supplies half of the whiskey and rum in Atlantic City!"

Downey didn't believe Allman's introduction at all. If this William James was really like Allman said, he would not necessarily sell his whiskey and rum at this time. More importantly, he would not sell his whiskey and rum at this time.

There is no impression of this person in Atlantic City in my memory.

Since Downey took over the Korla Tavern, he naturally knew the supplier of the Korla Tavern. In fact, before looking for Allman to introduce him, Downey had also looked for his own supplier, but the other party opened his mouth.

Ni set his sights on Allman.

"Mr. Bullock, you are really discerning. I have heard from Allman that you want to sell all the wine in the days before Prohibition. I have to say that this is

What a genius idea!"

William shook hands with Downey enthusiastically, and the smile on his face was as sincere as possible.

After hearing this, Donnie simply smiled. If the other party really agreed with his idea, he would definitely not sell him more whiskey and rum at this time.

The transaction between the two parties went very smoothly. Downey wanted to buy it, and James wanted to sell it. It was like Pan Jinlian met Ximen Qing, and he could still light it up without Wang Po!

Holding the $500 he got from Downey, James had a bright smile on his face.

"Allman, this idiot is good at everything, but he is too poor. If only he could have more, I can sell all my inventory!"

James took out 20 US dollars from the 500 US dollars in cash and handed it to Allman with some pain.

The smile on Allman's face was equally bright. He didn't do anything. He just pulled a string and earned 40 US dollars. This was actually going to his own pocket. It was different from collecting money from the Korla Tavern and selling guns.

It's different for Downey.

"He's just an idiot who just came off the battlefield. His brain has probably been stunned by the German artillery fire. Where can I find such a top-notch person?"

James nodded and said with regret: "It would be great if those who retired from the battlefield could be like Downey!"

The two of them left the boardwalk while chatting like this.

Downey's purchase of $500 of rum and whiskey from James's was soon known to other pubs on the boardwalk.

'Stupid Donny Bullock!'

This insulting title spread quickly.

Downey also heard such a name, but he didn't care about it. He believed that everyone would know who was stupid in just over a month.

After hiding the whiskey and rum that James brought, Downey decided to go home and take a look first. The rum and whiskey he bought from James, plus the ones originally in stock at the Korla Tavern, couldn't satisfy Tangny.

Ni's appetite.

And this kind of one-time transaction is not what Downey is pursuing!

After packing his luggage, Downey set out on the road back to Elwood Village.

But what Downey didn't know was that when he just left, behind him, there were two men wearing peaked caps with their hats lowered, driving a Ford Model T car in the same direction that Downey left.

.

After the light rain in late autumn, the weather was a bit cold, so Downey couldn't help but tighten his collar while walking on the dirt road.

Donny Bullock's hometown is called Elwood Village, which is 15 kilometers north of Atlantic City. Donny is leaving Atlantic City now to return to his hometown.

"There is no way for a person to succeed alone. Now I don't have many friends in Atlantic City. Instead of looking for people with whom I don't have enough friendship, I might as well bring some people over from my hometown!"

Downey only carried a hemp rope backpack, which contained some daily toiletries and all his belongings. The rest of the things were placed in the Korla Tavern in Atlantic City.

In fact, Downey originally wanted to take a train back to Elwood Village. Although there are two trains from Atlantic City that run directly to Philadelphia, there are no stops in Elwood Village in between.

Fortunately, the distance of 15 kilometers is not very far. Fortunately, Downey became a backpacker.

But the muddy and slippery dirt road just after the rain, and the trees on both sides that had begun to shed their leaves, made Donnie no longer in the leisurely mood he had just stepped out of Atlantic City.

There was no scenery to see, and Donnie continued to think about his future path.

"After Prohibition began, there were only two ways to obtain alcohol in the United States. One was to brew rum and whiskey privately, and the other was to smuggle alcohol in Europe or other countries."

"If you want to smuggle, you have to deal with the Coast Guard..."

Because of his participation in World War I, Downey still had some connections with Europe, but he was a little worried when he wanted to go through the domestic coast guard. He had no such connections.

"It seems we can only find opportunities in the future!"

Downey shook his head, looking a little helpless. The first pot of gold is always the hardest when you first come here.

"If there is no way to smuggle for the time being, then the only way is to make your own wine!"

This is another reason why Downey returned to Elwood Village. If you want to make your own whiskey and rum, you will need a distiller, raw materials, and a master who knows how to make whiskey!

The stills and raw materials all require cash to buy, but now Downey has little cash on hand, and Downey also wants to see if he can buy more whiskey and rum from James' place, which requires

Money.

This means you need to see how much help your hometown can bring you!

Although he didn't have much cash in his hand, Downey regretted using the little cash he had left to buy firearms. That is to say, the cash in his hand was not enough. If he had enough cash, Downey would even want to buy a few more pistols.

This time he was definitely going to take some people from Elwood Village back to Atlantic City. He was the only one with a gun, so his ability to protect himself was still a little bit poor.

"If thousands of dollars fell from the sky at this time, everything would really be solved!"

Donnie thought with some self-deprecation.

Little did he know that at this moment, the danger was slowly approaching him.
