Chapter 3 Useless

At 9 o'clock at night, I sat by the fire and warmed myself up. Several boats that were about to go out to retrieve corpses had also been submerged into the water. The people who retrieved corpses got on the boats, slowly fiddled with the oars, and rowed out.

On the Yellow River, corpse collectors are divided into three teams. The first team is the ordinary Yellow River corpse collectors. They will not charge money for salvaging the corpses of the deceased. But after they salvage the corpses ashore, they will use white cloth strips.

The corpse is hung in a shady place on the cliff, and after the deceased's family claims it, they go to the owner's house to have a vegetarian meal. Then the owner will tie a red cloth strip on their middle finger, symbolizing that they will not be disturbed by the deceased and seek peace.

The second team is professional corpse fishermen. They are called "water ghosts". They will be found to do jobs that ordinary corpse fishermen cannot do, but "water ghosts" have to collect money because of this.

So far, few people are willing to work as professional corpse collectors, and the amount of money depends on the owner's wishes.

This third team is what the industry calls "carrying poles". Although they are people who fish for corpses from the Yellow River, they raise prices from the ground. They make a lot of money, but they also die early. Generally, we will find this kind of people.

, either outsiders don’t understand the rules, or they are looking for them to break the rules and find evil.

Over the years, I have followed my grandfather and encountered many things about corpse recovery. The one that impressed me the most was probably "too old".

That day, my grandfather went out to tell fortunes for people. I went out fishing and met a salvage team from the village who were out fishing for corpses. They saw that my grandfather could tell fortunes, and I was brave, so they took me on board. There were five people in total at the time.

Except for me, the others were all young men in their twenties and seventies. The employer did not tell them what the salvaged thing was, but said it was a very important thing.

Since I was given money, I agreed. We went out to sea at 10 o'clock at night and rowed in the Yellow River for four hours before reaching the designated location.

But except for some floating corpses, there was nothing else here. Uncle Liu, who was traveling with him, had a more upright temperament and shouted to go back, but was stopped by the other three.

I looked around and saw that there were more and more corpses floating, and they were all male corpses. In desperation, Uncle Liu grabbed the big rooster on the boat and twisted the rooster's head off.

When the people on the boat saw it, they were about to blame him, but as soon as the rooster's blood dropped onto the river, it disappeared immediately. Uncle Liu threw the dead chicken in, and the others all held flashlights to shine on that location. After a while, a

A hand stretched out from the floating corpse, and at that moment, the rooster disappeared.

I began to worry, because this chicken-eating thing is called "Tai Bai Sui", also known as "Water Corpse Brother", and this "Tai Bai Sui" is usually used to protect the corpse raising ground and is not harmful. I

I quickly picked up the oars and tried to turn around, but it was too late. A young man standing on the edge of the boat was dragged down instantly, without even a chance to breathe.

The four of us leaned together and shined a flashlight around the boat, but there was no movement on the river. Uncle Liu was so frightened that he sweated, and I peed my pants on the spot.

Although they were fishermen from the Yellow River, this was the first time they had encountered this thing after five or six years of work. Although they knew it was "too old", they had only heard about it, but had never seen it before.

The four of us waited on the boat for dawn, because as soon as it dawned, the floating corpses on the river would sink, and we could leave safely by then.

But things were not that simple. The person who was captured came up after a while without a drop of blood on his body.

Uncle Liu picked up a bamboo pole from the boat and stretched it over. When he turned over the man's body, the man's facial features were gone, his eyelids were drooped in his eye sockets, only two rows of teeth were left in his mouth, and his nose was also gone.

It has been bitten.
