Chapter 39 Unicorns

The forbidden forest often seems to be covered with a layer of mist, which hinders the vision of the people in it.

As Professor Kettleborn and Xiwen deepened, the surroundings became darker and darker, and an oil lamp seemed not enough to provide enough light for the two.

"Lumos Maxima." Xiwen raised her wand and said.

A bright light emanated from the tip of Xiwen's wand, dispelling the darkness around it. Xiwen was able to see the scene in the forbidden forest.

Trees that were so thick that they needed to be hugged by two people stood around. From the ground up, there was no top at all. Only layers of branches and leaves covered the sky. The trunks were very dark in color. Even if midsummer had just passed, there were not many leaves. Many bare and strange-shaped branches overlapped, giving people a little gloomy feeling.

The soil on the ground is gray overall, and these soils do not appear wet, and remain mysteriously dry in the dispersed fog. You can feel the firmness and hard texture when stepped on it, so the shoes will not be stained with soil.

"The wand is darker." Professor Kettleborn said. "The light that is too strong will stimulate the small creatures in the Forbidden Forest. Otherwise, why would you think I wouldn't change to a brighter light?"

"Oh OK, so that's it." Xiwen nodded and replaced it with the normal version of the magic wand illumination spell.

The professor took Xiwen on a path that was obviously walking for a long time, pointing to passing animals from time to time, telling him about the habits of the creatures in the forbidden forest.

The little animals seemed to be very familiar with Professor Kettleborn and were not afraid of his approach. Occasionally, there would be hares jumping or light-shaped elks walking in front of the two, looking at the face of Xiwen curiously.

"Professor, why do the Forbidden Forest need to be inspected every day?" Xiwen asked curiously.

"In fact, the original intention of Hogwarts to establish the position of Forest Manager was to prevent foreign enemies from sneaking into the school through Forest, so we need to continue patrolling every day." Professor Kettleborn said with a smile. "The forbidden forest is difficult to seep into the Forest Manager today. After all, few people can get through the Horseman alone."

"However, the habit of daily inspections was still preserved. Later, most of the forest-forbidden administrators were people who loved magical animals, and regarded the forest-forbidden inspections as a way to deal with magical animals. Because of this, we all enjoyed it."

"It's really good to have such a hobby!" Xiwen nodded admiringly and exclaimed. "So what magical animals are there in the Forbidden Forest?"

"It's so much." The professor said intoxicatedly. "Night Hedge, unicorn, eagle-headed and horse-body winged beast..."

At this time, a beautiful creature emitting silver light appeared from the bushes in front of her and appeared in front of the two of them. Her hair was pure silver all over her body, shaped like an elegant and noble foal, but she had a long spiral horn on her head.

"Ah, your luck is really good!" Professor Kettleborn said to Xiwen excitedly. "The first time you enter the Forbidden Forest, you will see a sacred unicorn with your own eyes."

"When the unicorn was born, it was golden all over. It would not gradually turn silver until about two years old. When he was four years old, he would grow a magical unicorn, and only after he was seven years old will it turn into a holy white unique to adult unicorns." He then introduced the beautiful magical animal, unicorn. "You see, the unicorn in front of him is still silver all over his body, but the unicorn has developed very well, so it should be a young unicorn between the ages of four and seven."

Xiwen was amazed at the beauty of the unicorn and walked forward carefully, wanting to observe her up close.

"Although I don't want to hit you, I still have to tell you that unicorns are more willing to believe in pure girls than men." Professor Kettleborn said after seeing Xiwen's actions.

However, to the two of them, the unicorn did not reject Xiwen's approach. Instead, she raised her silver-white hooves and quietly moved to Xiwen.

She poked her head in front of Xiwen and gently rubbed the wand in Xiwen's hand.

The kitten on Xiwen's shoulder seemed to be a little curious about the unicorn, and jumped on her back with a "swoosh" and lay on the silver mane behind the unicorn's neck with satisfaction.

"Come back quickly, don't be naughty!" Xiwen's face turned dark in an instant, and she quickly wanted to bring the naughty kitten back.

Professor Kettleborn smiled knowingly when he saw this scene, saying, "Don't worry, as long as the unicorn doesn't stop it, it's your cat. Maybe the two of them will get along well!"

When Xiwen heard this, she looked at the unicorn. Her head was still pressed against Xiwen's wand, and her expression showed a hint of nostalgia.

"Professor, why has she always had a special liking for my wand?" Xiwen asked curiously.

Seeing this, the professor also looked serious and asked: "This usually doesn't happen. Even the wand with the tail hair of the unicorn as the core of the stick will not get the extra closeness of the unicorn. So what material is your wand?"

"Unicorn horn nerve..." Xiwen murmured at the straight pine wand in her hand.

"No wonder..." Professor Kettleborn nodded with a sigh. "I still have the impression that a few years ago, an evil black wizard attacked a unicorn in the Galloway Forest. The unicorn had just given birth and was weak. In order to protect the cub, she was cruelly killed by the black wizard."

"When the people from the Ministry of Magic discovered it, only her body with dried blood and the untouched unicorn cubs protected in the grass beside her." The professor wiped his eyes sadly and said in a low voice. "That cub should be the one in front of him. She has a name called Cisli. The people from the Fantastic Animal Protection Department sent her to Nonlinto for my care, but since she had the ability to move, she disappeared. I thought she had left..."

"So she came for this?" Xiwen spread her palms, straight, slender, 14-inch pine wand carved with complex textures, lay horizontally on his palm.

"If you want it, take it. This is the core of your mother's stick." Xiwen was a little reluctant, but he said in the end.

Cisli looked at the wand in his hand with nostalgia, but did not take it away. She just used her head to arch Xiwen's right hand, which was spread out, to his body, as if she was signaling Xiwen to take it back.

"If the wand has chosen you, it means that Sisley's mother has recognized you." Professor Kettleborn sighed from the side. "Hold it, this wand belongs to you."

Xiwen also breathed a light sigh, held the wand in her hand, and stretched out her left hand to rub Chisley's smooth neck, and said in a deep voice: "Don't worry, if one day I will see the dark wizard who hurts your mother, I will definitely avenge her!"
