Chapter 15 Zhang Jinghe

There is another thing. In history, it is said that General Lan Yu was killed by Zhu Yuanzhang for his great merits. Here I want to say something fair to say that his rebellion was really wronged.

After the rebel army entered Jinling City, Lan Yu used a car to bring in a few jars of wine to visit Zhang Jinghe. At that time, I opened the door. Zhang Zhenren did not change his clothes, but just wore a casual green jacket and went out of the inner house to greet him. He didn't even wear a pair of serious shoes, only a pair of straw sandals.

Although Lan Yu was also a poor man, after becoming a general in the uprising army, he began to pay more and more attention to rules and pomp. Seeing Zhang Jinghe being unhappy in plain clothes, he spoke to Zhang Jinghe: "I heard that Mr. Zhang is outstanding in writing for a long time. I will give a couplet. I asked Mr. Zhang to check out the couplet, 'Wears wearing razor grass to welcome guests, but I have no shoes on my feet'."

"Zhuxia" seems to be talking about Zhang Jinghe's feet, but in fact it is also Lan Yu's name for Zhang Jinghe. This title is somewhat disrespectful, which is equivalent to the meaning of "you" in modern language.

"Wulu" is the homonym of "rude", which is easy to understand. The whole first couplet translates into vernacular, which is "Wear a big slipper on your feet to greet the guests, you are so rude!"

Seeing Lan Yu holding a wine glass made of coconut shell in his hand, Zhang Jinghe immediately said to him: "Hold the coconut scoop in his hand to make a cup, and there is no cup in front of the bottle!"

"Zunqian" is a homonym of "Zunqian". "Zunqian" is generally used to start with a letter, similar to "respected leader" in modern language. Although Zhang Jinghe had no official position at that time, his status in front of Zhu Yuanzhang was actually higher than that of Lan Yu. Zhang Jinghe in turn called Lan Yu "Zunqian", which was a bit of the meaning of "a large official called a small official" in modern society. To put it bluntly, it is also a kind of irony.

But this second couplet is a bit difficult to understand, because this second couplet is translated into vernacular, "Hold a coconut shell in your hand as a wine glass, you don't even have a wine glass." At first glance, it seems that there is nothing special, it seems to be a bickering between two people. Lan Yu satirized Zhang Jinghe and Zhang Jinghe gave a word, but it was so foggy that everyone didn't understand. It was not until many years later that I understood the true meaning of Zhang Jinghe's second couplet.

After the founding of the Ming Dynasty, Lan Yu, as the uncle of the prince Zhu Biao's wife, took good care of Zhu Biao, his niece. In order to stabilize the position of the prince, Zhu Yuanzhang also deliberately supported Lan Yu's power and became Zhu Biao's right-hand man after he inherited the throne in the future.

Unfortunately, although Zhu Biao was kind-hearted and was a good emperor, he had little fortune and died young. The newly established crown prince Zhu Yunwen had too little foundation, and Zhu Yuanzhang was worried that his grandson would not be able to suppress Lan Yu, the "uncle", so he began to suppress Lan Yu.

Lan Yu is very happy and domineering, and one thing can be proved. I heard that after he was victorious in the remnants of the Yuan Dynasty on the Mongolian grasslands, he wanted to enter the Xifengkou Pass and return to the Central Plains. Because it was night when he arrived, the soldiers guarding the pass said that they would not open until tomorrow morning. As a result, Lan Yu was furious and ordered the bombardment of the door and the troops destroyed the pass. This shows how arrogant he was.

During this northern expedition, Lan Yu also defiled the concubines of the Northern Yuan, causing the concubine to commit suicide. Zhu Yuanzhang rebuked him greatly. He originally wanted to grant him the title of "Duke of Liang" but later changed to "Duke of Liang". The difference of one word means that the fiefdom changed from the wealthy Henan to the desolate Gansu, which was actually a reminder to Lan Yu.

However, because Lan Yu was used to being arrogant before, he saw that Zhu Yuanzhang no longer valued him, he developed a desire to rebel. Who was Zhu Yuanzhang? Of course, Lan Yu could not hide his little thoughts. He directly sent someone to collect evidence of Lan Yu's rebellion and executed all 15,000 people from Lan Yu's family and the military generals who were close to him. Originally, Lan Yu wanted to cut him to pieces, but later he thought that he was the uncle of his eldest daughter-in-law (Zhu Biao's wife) and the father-in-law of Zhu Chun, the eleventh son, Shu King, so he changed to peeling the skin.

Zhang Jinghe's sentence "Holding a coconut cup in his hand to make a cup, not to cup in front of the bottle" is actually a prophecy about Lan Yu's fate. "Not to cup" is actually a homophonic word for "unfaithfulness". If you do things under Zhu Yuanzhang, you may be killed if you are loyal, let alone you are "unfaithful"?

When I first arrived at Zhang Jinghe, he was already in his sixties. In order to learn more about numerology and physiognomy from him, I sometimes secretly add a little bit of my blood to his diet to help him prolong his life.

It was said to be "secret", but I always believed that he had known about it for a long time, but he turned a blind eye.

He knew that I needed to maintain my life with the blood of living people, so he took advantage of the founding heroes and the identity of Zhu Yuanzhang as a friend, and helped me collect blood regularly under the pretext of studying elixirs. So in the past few decades, I have been learning physiognomy by his side.

Until the 27th year of Hongwu,

It was Zhang Jing and the 100th year of age. He discussed with me:

"Disciple, I'm sure there will be major changes in Jinling City within five years. You and I, the master and apprentice, should prepare early."

My senior brother Liu Ji and Liu Bowen died twenty years ago. I am Zhang Jinghe’s only living apprentice. The old man wanted to avoid disaster, but he had to discuss it with me for a good end.

"Master wants to go far away and avoid the disaster here?"

"That's right, I'll disguise myself from the city tomorrow and go west to Tongguan. Then you hang up the sign of Xieke in the mansion and say I'm sick. Two months later it's the eighth day of the ninth month. You pretend to be me, look for a bridge in the city, jump to the bridge and pretend to die, and then live in seclusion in the city and wait for me to come back."

"What are you going to do?"

"The secret of heaven cannot be revealed!"

For more than thirty years, I have annoyed him the most. People who may be able to tell fortunes and see fortunes are all the faults. They always say "The secrets of heaven cannot be revealed." If you really cannot be revealed, can you not say it at the beginning? It is always a lot of people who say half of the sentences and leave half of the sentences. This is also the reason why in the past few hundred years, I never go to tell fortunes to others no matter what I do to you - do not do to others what you do not want others to do to you.

On the eighth day of the ninth month, I put on my master's clothes as I said, dyed my hair white with white gray, found a bridge to jump into the water, then held my breath and swam in the water for five miles, went ashore in the distance, took a detour back to the real mansion, pretending to be fine.

Jinling Mansion sent someone to report that Old Fairy Zhang had thrown into the water for no reason. His Majesty ordered his body to be found, but he could not find it, so he made me feel sorry for me. I cried a few times, thanked the emperor for his kindness, and said that Zhenren Zhang was dead, and the disciples should give up the Zhenren Mansion, which was granted by the emperor, and took the opportunity to find an ordinary house in the city and live in seclusion.

From then on, an injury case occurred in Jinling City every one or two months. Most of the injured were homeless beggars. Without exception, they were first knocked out, cut their arms and released some blood, and then wrapped the wound, and had a tael of silver in their arms.

For a time, the beggars in the city were not only not afraid, but instead obstructed the government from investigating the case. They also took the initiative to wash their arms white and clean, hoping that the next person who was bleeding was himself.
