Chapter 80: Rebuilding a family and country (8)(1/2)

The affiliated church of Maple Stone City Hall, where all officers of the "Preparation Conference" were summoned.

Some of them were the prides of heaven. As soon as they stepped out of the school gate, they entered the famous Palathu army with a bright future. However, they experienced an unprecedented defeat in an expedition and suffered hardships before being redeemed from the hands of Hed's tribes; some were excluded frustrated people, from poverty, and were admitted to the highest military institution of the alliance with their talents and perseverance. They thought they would rewrite their lives from then on, but they were thrown into the new land where no one cares about them. They had only one skill but had nowhere to display them, and finally proved their value in a revenge-like resistance;

There are also people who were originally just soldiers at the bottom of the army, the most ignored parts of the huge war machine, and allowed the generals to use it at will. They endured a test that was far more cruel and ruthless than others before they stood out and won themselves the qualification to stand shoulder to shoulder with others in the same temple.

These middle-level officers with different backgrounds, experiences and personalities are the bones and pillars that will support the armed forces of the New Republic in the future.

At this moment, their eyes were all gathered on the man on the pulpit.

Through the reflection of the dome and the arch wall, the unique cold and restrained magnetic sound of the man echoed clearly in every corner of the hall, and a sacred and ethereal color was added.

"...It's easy to open a bad head for anything, but it's like a fool to get a good result after opening a bad head."

On the evangel, Wintersmontagne, who has explained in detail the causes and consequences of the "issuance of the ownership of command power" and the serious differences between the four-member committee on the "issuance of the ownership of command power", is making a final summary statement:

"So, whether to establish a national army or a country with an army is now a decision."

"And we—the committee of four—consider, think that this power that defines our past, present and future should be given to you—the man who truly represents the will of this army that will establish a new republic."

Winters paused, and glanced sharply at the faces in the church:

"Please remember--if there is really a moment that determines the direction of history, it is this moment! Each of you is in it!"

"[The wrong sapling cannot bear the fruit you want]. Whether to hold on to the incomplete and repeat the mistakes of history; or to sacrifice yourself and cut off the shackles of the past will be decided by you."

"I..." Winters punched the pulpit: "No! It's not me! It's the sky, the rivers and the earth under your feet, and every Paratu living on this land, counts on you to make the right choice."

Winters' eyes were astonished as a torch, and it shot straight into everyone's eyes: "Don't let them down."

After the speech, Winters took a step back and raised his hand to salute.

Seber Carrington, who was sitting in the last row, stood up and applauded, and deafening applause burst out from under the dome.

Winters turned to look at Magash Colwin, who was sitting behind him.

"Lieutenant Colonel." Winters gave up the pulpit and politely invited: "It's your turn."

Lieutenant Colonel Magash's expression was ugly, and it was rarely seen on the face of the elegant Magash Colwin.

Obviously, Winters unexpectedly requested a meeting of all officers, which made him very passive; and the other side that Winters showed - the unrivaled eloquence, made him completely disappointed.

Finally, Lieutenant Colonel Magash, who knew that the situation was hopeless, loosened his clenched fists little by little, stood up, and applauded the middle-level officers below the stage.

He smiled and shook his head gently: "Forget it...no need."

Hearing this, Captain Skur next to him breathed a sigh of relief.

Winters chose to hold an "enlarged meeting" to resolve the serious differences within the Supreme Council, and Colonel Skur was relieved; Lieutenant Colonel Magash admitted his failure without losing his grace and accepted the common decision of all officers of the "preparatory meeting" to make Colonel Skur's heart fall down again.

So Colonel Skur also stood up and applauded politely.

"Okay! Then stop talking nonsense!" Colonel Geis, who presided over the meeting, took over the speech stick and ordered with great enthusiasm: "Vote!"

Colonel Geisa waved his hand and the orderly took the ballot box that had been prepared onto the altar.

The colonel himself stroked the back of his head and blinked at Winters in seclusion.

...

Time goes back to the night of Colonel Geisa visiting Winters.

"Since Colewin takes morale, foreign enemies, and the common interests of all officers as a shield." Colonel Geisa smiled jokingly and pointed at Winters: "Then, you might as well give him a trick of 'cutting off the fire', do you understand?"

Winters suddenly felt enlightened, but in order to make Colonel Geisa happy, he still lowered his head and asked, "Please make it clear."

A look of satisfaction, "You kid is really too young" came over Colonel Geisa's face.

He smacked his lips with endless aftertaste and sighed comfortably.

After doing all this, Colonel Geisa straightened his back, sat on his knees, and said solemnly to Winters:

"Since Colwin said that changing the ownership of command is to infringe on the interests of all officers and will definitely shake the morale of the army. Then, you will ask the four-member committee to convene an enlarged meeting to put this matter on the table and leave it to all officers to decide!"

The colonel explained calmly:

"Korwin would never have imagined that a young and successful guy like you would be willing to decentralize his power; although I cannot directly support you in revision of the ownership of orthodox power, I can agree to your request to convene an enlarged meeting - as the final solution to the differences. With my votes and you, even if Mecklen and Colwin both oppose convening an enlarged meeting, it will be of no use.

Major matters related to the interests of all officers are left to all officers to decide—this reason is enough to block Magash Kolwin's mouth."

This chapter is not over, please click on the next page to continue reading! "This is why I can guarantee it." Geisa Adonis smiled and said, "Korwin can't even let go of a fart."

Winters was not infected by the colonel's confidence, and he fell into deep thought and did not speak for a long time.

It took a while before Winters returned to reality.

He frowned and asked the colonel seriously: "What if the General Assembly of the Officers did not choose the path I expected them to choose...?"

Colonel Geisa's smile froze.

"So that's what you think?" The colonel stood up with his knees, looked down at Winters, and asked sadly: "So you don't trust your classmates, your seniors, and your subordinates whom you promoted?"

The colonel asked again: "Do you think you are the only one in the world who has a long-term vision, is selfless, and hates evil?"

"You can even entrust your life to them, what is this matter now?"

Colonel Geisa put his hand on Winters' shoulder and said firmly: "You—you underestimate them too much."

...

Back to the affiliated church in the town hall.

The voting session has ended and the voting session is underway.

There is only one sentence on the face of the vote - do you agree with the proposal of Commissioner Winters Montagne; there are only two options on the face of the vote - "Yes" and "No".

Every time Colonel Geis read a ticket, Colonel Skur Mecklen drew a stroke with a graphite strip on the bulletin board with white paper.

The first ticket is.

The second ticket is.

The third ticket is.

The fourth picture...

As more and more strokes were drawn on the bulletin board, the atmosphere in the church became more and more quiet.

Under the dome, only Colonel Geisa's voice was echoing.

Colonel Skur Mecklen, who counted the votes, had sweat beads oozing out of the tip of his nose; Lieutenant Colonel Magash Korwin, who was sitting in the audience, pursed his lips tightly; Winters said nothing.

Behind them, every officer present could clearly hear his heart beating "bang".

"The seventy-first ticket." Colonel Geisa opened the folded ticket paper and showed everyone: "Yes!"

Then, he still put his hand into the ballot box again.

But this time, the colonel's expression was a little strange.

"No more." Geisa Adonis pushed the ballot box down directly, so that everyone could see the empty inner cavity of the front donation box: "Just just now was the last vote."

Upon hearing this, the officers present looked at the bulletin board at the same time.

On white paper divided into two by a thick red line, one side was full of counting symbols...

On the other side, there is nothing.

As expected and unexpectedly, the officers attending the meeting voted unanimously to pass Winters Montagne's proposal.

No vote was opposed.

This means that even Lieutenant Colonel Magash Kolwin voted for the vote.

Winters walked up to the pulpit and looked at the familiar and unfamiliar faces below the stage. He was still talking nonsense just now, but he didn't know what to say.

Finally, he bent down deeply and thanked all the comrades in the church - even more apologized.

Even though he had witnessed many feats of sacrifice and self-sacrifice on the battlefield, Winters never expected that reason and intelligence could overcome greed, nobleness could overcome selfish desires, and someone would be willing to cut off his flesh and blood for the benefit of others.

There is no doubt that Winters is a pessimist.

But today's vote proves to Winters one thing--people don't always make the most selfish choices.

The officers present, regardless of their background, experience, or personality, gave up their right to "self-control" without exception and chose to hand over their reins to others.

Among them, some people think carefully and then make decisions, and of course some people blindly follow, impulsively and irrationally vote.

But no matter what, they all chose the path of self-sacrifice.

And all the staff chose the same path.

When Winters straightened his waist again, applause burst out from under the dome again.

Colonel Geisa slapped hard, while proudly saying to Winters with his mouth:

"You - you underestimate us too much."

Colonel Skur and Lieutenant Colonel Magash, who were also applauding, looked around the church's subordinates who were almost in a state of fanaticism and saw deep worries and fear in each other's eyes.

Looking at the faces that were eagerly looking at him, Winters suddenly remembered the words of Friar Reed: "What a person looks like depends on what kind of emotions he is inspired in his heart."

"I'm sure." Facing everyone, Winters revealed his true feelings: "Today will be a day that will be remembered by history forever."

With the church's exquisite sound-collapse design, his voice easily suppressed the applause of everyone in the audience.
