Chapter 52 Giovanni's request(1/2)

In Madame Navare's quiet little living room, Antonio half lying on the sofa admiring the paintings hanging on the wall, as comfortable and comfortable as in his own home.

Winters, on the other hand, looked at the nose, the mouth, the heart, and sat upright on the chair like a sculpture.

"Don't be so reserved." Antonio happily handed Winters the small plate containing nuts: "You look like a monk now, and you almost suck your back with a shackle."

"Who should I blame?" Winters was very angry when he saw the main responsible person who seemed to be unrelated to him.

Antonio casually picked up a fig from the small table and peeled it bit by bit: "Aren't I here with you?"

Why did Winters and Antonio come to the Navare Mansion? This matter is a bit tortuous.

Major Moritz had only ten steel cones, which was not enough. Therefore, Winters turned to his younger uncle, Antonio's younger brother Giovanni Serbiati.

The Serbiati family has not long history in the Sea Blue City. It was not until Antonio and Giovanni's father Cavalia that the Serbiati family grew up in the Sea Blue.

Cavalia, the big-necked, Venetta, was forced to leave his family because of a revenge when he was young.

His mother stuffed two gold coins into his hand, kissed his cheek, and sobbed: "My dear son, don't spend these two gold coins, carry them close to you but don't spend them. The red marks in the pattern of the gold coins are the blood of the saint Noverata. With them, Santa Noverata will bless you. I will pray for you every moment."

His father gave him a sharp sword speechlessly.

In this way, with a sword, two gold coins and mother's blessing, Cavalia came from Baihua City alone to Hailan City.

He first drew the good sword, spent two more gold coins, and lived a comfortable life. After a few days, after spending the money, Cavalia had made new "friends" in Hailan abandoned him at twice the speed of approaching him.

The helpless Cavalia has a miserable life and is finally taken in by a kind gold and silver craftsman as an apprentice. After surviving the difficult apprenticeship period, he became an official member of the precious metal craftsman guild in Hailan City.

By the time Cavalia's eldest son Antonio was born, he had become a famous gold and silver craftsman in the Aquarium City, with a very good workshop. He also redeemed the family-born good sword and the two gold coins that were said to be stained with the blood of San Veratta.

Cavalia Serbiati's eldest son Antonio was admitted to the Army Officer Academy and became a soldier. His youngest son Giovanni inherited his father's craftsmanship and inherited the workshop after Cavalia died of illness and became a gold and silver craftsman.

If Antonio has the same status as a father in Winters' heart, then Giovanni is called uncle and actually an elder brother.

Cavalia's offspring was in a difficult situation and had five children died. After having the eldest son, he had his second son who grew up healthy many years later. Antonio and Giovanni were fourteen years apart, while Giovanni was only nine years older than Winters.

So compared to his brother who is fourteen years older than him, Giovanni and Winters, who are very playful, are closer. Winters has done the main bad things since he was a child.

If Winters lit the house, he would not tell Antonio, Cossa, but he would tell Giovanni. If Giovanni killed someone, he would not tell his brother that he would ask Winters to help him move the body.

Among the ten steel cones Moritz gave Winters, only five pointed steel cones can be used for actual combat, which is of course not enough. Winters wanted to ask someone to make a batch of the same according to the steel cones given by the major.

Since it was related to metal, Winters immediately thought of his uncle Giovanni. Although Giovanni is a precious metal craftsman, in Winters's opinion, Giovanni should also know some blacksmiths with superb skills.

In addition to creating a batch of steel cones, Winters also had another purpose: to make a scabbard for Elizabeth's dagger.

The dagger that was tangled by Elizabeth and wanted to leave Winters was originally returned to Sofia, but I don’t know what persuasion technique Elizabeth used, so Sofia actually gave the dagger to Elizabeth again.

The leather scabbard sewn by Elizabeth himself was not useful and was quickly poked by the dagger. So Winters had another mission, asking Giovanni to make a silver scabbard for Elizabeth. Of course, only the shell of the scabbard is silver, and cork pads should be added inside to prevent the dagger blade from being blunt.

Winters originally thought it was not difficult to make hundreds of identical steel cones, but he didn't know how difficult it was until he had communicated with a real blacksmith.

It is difficult to ensure consistency of shape and weight by hand. Major Moritz gave Winters a cylinder. Hand-forged can't make a cylinder. It can only be forged into prisms and then used a file to file off the edges bit by bit, and then polished smoothly. If you still have to use steel, it will be more time-consuming and laborious to file.

At the same time, it is necessary to ensure that each piece is consistent in weight, and the production difficulty will be doubled again.

Giovanni's most precise balance, used to weigh gold, could not verify the weight difference between the ten steel cones that Major Moritz gave Winters.

These ten steel cones surprised Giovanni's blacksmith friend and said bluntly that he did not have the ability, and even if he put a lot of effort into it, the price of each steel cone would be more than one silver coin.

According to Giovanni, "The material of this thing is not expensive, but the effort spent by craftsmen far exceeds the value of the material itself. The value of craftsmen's labor is seriously despised, so few people will spend so much effort on base metals. These small things are simply carved patterns on iron."

Only then did Winters understand why Major Moritz used silver coins as spell casting materials - this special steel cone was more expensive than a silver coin.

It would be better to use silver coins as arrows directly. At least the silver coins are made by the Venetta Mint, which are materials of equal weight and similar shape that can be obtained at will.

Compared to the difficulties encountered in customizing steel cones, it is much easier to make scabbards for Elizabeth.

Winters brought the daggers with him. Giovanni measured the size and poured the wax mold. Elizabeth just needed to wait at home for Uncle Giovanni to send her the scabbard.

"By the way, does the little girl say that she wants to use any pattern to decorate the scabbard?" Giovanni asked casually with the dagger back to Winters.

Winters was stopped and did not dare to make decisions for Elizabeth without authorization. He had to ride on the brigade and run home to ask Elizabeth himself.

Elizabeth did not immediately reply to Winters, but instead gave Winters two paintings after going to the studio.

These two paintings are different from common religious style paintings, and are more inclined to freehand paintings. They do not pay attention to the principle of perspective, and use delicate and exquisite brushstrokes to outline the picture of flowers. At the same time, they do not lose complexity and make good use of the white space technique.

When Giovanni saw these two paintings, she was shocked and sent the prepared scabbard the next day. The pattern provided by Elizabeth was replicated on the scabbard by Giovanni using the embossed pattern.

The embossing method is to use a small chisel to knock out a chiral symmetric pattern on the back of the metal sheet, so that the bas-relief patterns can be obtained on the front of the metal sheet. Then, by hand carving the details, the clarity of the embossed lines can be increased. Finally, beautiful embossed patterns can be obtained on the metal surface.

This relief on the scabbard can not only serve as a decorative effect, but to a certain extent it will also allow the scabbard to be caught more firmly.

After Elizabeth got the scabbard, she couldn't let go and excitedly showed off to Coza and Antonio.

However, there was actually another thing about Giovanni coming to find her little nephew. Giovanni laughed and hooked Winters' neck hard: "Where did those two pictures come from? Are there any more pictures?"

It turned out that Giovanni showed these two pictures to another wealthy businessman's wife and immediately got an order for two silver salt boxes.

Compared with base metal craftsmen, the valuation of precious metal craftsmen's skills is higher. No matter how hard it is, iron is difficult to sell for silver. However, after careful carving by precious metal craftsmen, the price of gold and silver utensils can be much higher than the value of the material itself.

So compared to base metal craftsmen who pursue mass production, precious metal craftsmen have embarked on another path: devote more effort to making money on a small number of fine gold and silver utensils.

Giovanni, who has a keen sense of smell, found that wealthy female customers like this pattern very much. This new style of pattern is like a new mineral vein for Giovanni. He eagerly hopes to get more patterns.

Winters explained: "The drawing was given to me by Ella. Didn't she always go to Mrs. Angusora's studio? It should have been painted by herself."

Giovanni said regretfully when he heard this, "If I ask her, she will take the opportunity to blackmail me."

"Then there is nothing to do." Winters spread his hands.

"But hasn't Ella listened to you since she was a child?" Giovanni seemed to have had a scheming case long ago: "You can help me take care of her and ask for a few more pictures to come over, and then help you solve the problem of steel cone. How about it?"

Giovanni's solution for the steel cone that Winters wants to customize is as follows: the cylindrical shape requires too much manual hours and is not considered; so just use a triangular prism, which can be directly forged and molded on an anvil with a V-trough; the blacksmith made roughly equal weight blanks and sent them to Giovanni's workshop, and then used the precious metal processing technology of "fine grinding" for secondary processing; although it is not as good as the ten steel cones in Winters' hand, it can also ensure the consistency of shape and weight to the greatest extent.

More importantly, the cost can also be accepted by Winters.

Winters could not refuse this proposal at all, but Winters did not expect that his uncle had changed and he actually wanted to trade with him in this way.

Looking at Winters' resentful eyes, Giovanni had to agree to make another silver saddle as a reward for the pattern. And no matter whether Winters can get more patterns, he will help Winters solve the problem of steel cone.

But to Winters and Giovanni's surprise, Elizabeth told Winters that the drawings were not drawn by himself.

She gave a name that Winters least wanted to hear now: Anna Navare.

Elizabeth not only knew Anna, but also had a close relationship. Anna, Elizabeth and several other female friends studied together in Mrs. Angusora's studio. The two patterns were painted by Elizabeth.

Self-esteem is a very delicate thing that drives people to act noblely and sometimes prevents communication between people.

Because of his self-esteem, Major General Layton fulfilled his promise to be the first to jump to the gang. Winters rushed into the enemy's cabin regardless of the knife wound on his arm; it was also because of his self-esteem that Winters was too lazy to explain to Miss Navare, and he didn't want to meet the other party again. After all, the slap that was indifferent to the words was still quite painful.

But Elizabeth smiled wickedly and refused to agree to help Winters find Anna for patterns. Obviously, she had learned from her own channels that Winters was slapped by Anna. This was probably a rare fun in her ordinary life and would never be let go of it easily.

"Your friend has a very bad impression of me. If I can't see you, I will disappear. Do you just want to see you again and get slapped?" Winters grabbed Elizabeth and refused to let her run away.

"Winters, I'm all for your own good." Elizabeth had a set of fallacies and pretended to be serious and said, "You're almost angry with Anna. Now my female companions treat you as a very indecent man... If you apologize to Anna, she will forgive you."

"Why should I apologize?" Winters was amused and crying. He had seen through Elizabeth's thoughts: "You're happy to see me being slapped in the face again, are you?"

This chapter is not over, please click on the next page to continue reading! Elizabeth could no longer hold back and laughed unrestrainedly. It happened that Antonio had just returned home, and Elizabeth quickly asked his father for help.

Antonio's attitude was very open-minded: "I thought the little girls were just going to Madame Angusora's studio to play. So they painted well? Since Joni needs to ask Miss Navare's help, I'll take you to Navare's house."

"Then can't you go to Mrs. Navare yourself and ask her to get some paintings of her daughter?"

"Joni asks you for help, not me. You should have gone by yourself, but I went to Navare to apologize to Miss Navare for my offense." Antonio's smile was exactly the same as Elizabeth. Winters confirmed again that Ella's prank character was definitely inherited from Antonio.

Back in Madame Navare's small living room, Antonio and Winters waited for Navare and his daughter.

Antonio and Madame Navare were old friends. He explained his purpose in a few words, hoping to ask for some works by Miss Navare for his younger brother Giovanni. Before Anna could speak, Madame Navare agreed to her daughter.

Then Antonio cheerfully first talked to Anna in the old language, and then changed to talking to Anna in the old language.

Anna answered fluently, and Madame Navare was left aside and was a little overwhelmed.

Winters could understand, but Antonio and Anna were just greetings on a daily basis, and there was no substantial chat content.

After confirming that Anna was indeed able to use the old and old languages, Antonio stood up, bowed deeply to Anna solemnly, and said sincerely: "[Old Language] Miss Anna, I have been offensive before. I mistakenly regard you as an ordinary woman. Please accept my apology."

Anna, Mrs. Navare, and Winters were all shocked.

In any case, the status of men in this era is far higher than that of women; not to mention that even Anna is a male, major general of the Army, and commander of the standing army, Antonio Serbiati, has a social status that is far higher than her.

People with high status apologize to people with low status. No matter what era or country it is, it is rare. Most people with high status apologize, even if they should apologize, they will only regard it as nothing has happened.

Seeing this scene, Winters began to admire his uncle's demeanor, because Antonio was not reluctant and sincerely apologizing to Anna for his actions.

Seeing Antonio bowing deeply to her, Anna became a little panicked, and she quickly stood up and returned a curtsy in a hurry.

Antonio said something more, turned his head to Madame Navare and said with a smile: "Then please ask Miss Navare to take out a few paintings."

Mrs. Navare was confused. She didn't know what happened. She didn't understand a word about Antonio and Anna just now.

Finally, Antonio began to speak the common language again, and Mrs. Navare leaned gracefully on the chaise longue and replied: "Let the two children go together. You and I have endless things to say."

Winters followed Anna, and the two walked straight to Anna's studio without saying a word.

There are several brackets in the studio, and the table is filled with canvas and painting paper. Many painting boards are covered with white cloth and lean against the wall, which seems to be completed works. There are also many white papers with line drawings casually thrown on the ground.

"Hmph." Anna stood at the table with her back to Winters, rumbling in anger, and spoke first: "Mr. Serbiati still looks down on women from the bottom of her heart, 'I used to treat you as an ordinary woman'. Can ordinary women be so frivolous?"

Winters was silent.

The more Anna thought about it, she asked Winters angrily: "What do you think? Mr. Montagne."
