Chapter 598: The Brezhnev Era

The entire conference was held in a solemn atmosphere, with Khrushchev, Suslov, Brezhnev, Kosigin, Sherepin, Mazulov, Polyyansky, Sherest and other members of the Central Presidium sleeping. The statue of Lenin behind them and the flags of the sixteen Soviet Union and fifteen Franchise republics made the entire venue look very solemn.

Below are the Central Committee of the Soviet Union, representatives of the Supreme Soviet, advanced workers, socialist labor heroes, ministers of various departments, and representatives of the Communist Party of other countries who were invited, including France, Italy, Indonesia and other Communist Party general secretary who plays an important role in various countries.

This was the last time Khrushchev convened a conference as the First Secretary of the Soviet Union and Chairman of the Council of Ministers. Seeing the people waiting closely below, this reluctance cannot be said to be completely let go, but Khrushchev also knew very well that he was so old that he might not be able to disappear at any time, and retirement must be retired.

The conference was announced by Central Secretary Suslov, and thunderous applause rang out in the venue in an instant. Even the sound of Khrushchev's microphone was suppressed. Even though many people had reservations about Khrushchev's leadership, they still gave the greatest support in the face of the supreme leader who was about to retire.

Khrushchev made a hand-holding and packed up, waiting for the applause to stop, put on his glasses and held the speech and began his last speech as the first secretary of the Soviet Union and the chairman of the Council of Ministers, "The Soviet people held this great revolution in 1918, as the revolutionary mentor Lenin pointed out many times, and began a new era of world history. Various revolutions have occurred in history. However, no revolution in the past can be compared with the October Socialist Revolution. Establishing a society without exploitation was once the dream of the working people and progressive human beings in the world for thousands of years. The October Revolution turned this dream into reality for the first time on one-sixth of the world's land. This revolution proved that without the landlords and bourgeoisie, the people could fully build a new life of freedom and happiness in a planned manner. At the same time, it proved that without the oppression of imperialism, all nations in the world can live in harmony."

"The reason why the Soviet Union was invincible was that it was a country that replaced the capitalist system with the socialist system, a country that replaced the exploiting class with the proletariat, a country that developed social productivity at a rate that capitalist countries could not have, a country that truly implemented proletarian internationalism, truly opposed national oppression and assistance to the liberation of the oppressed nation. Such a country has the warm support of all its people and the warm support of people from all countries around the world. The extent of these two support has never been reached in the history of each country."

The Soviet Union's appearance completely changed in fifty years. Before the revolution, Russia's economic and technological power was relatively backward. Now the Soviet Union has become the world's first powerful industrial country. The living standards of the Soviet people have been constantly improving. The development scale of the Soviet Union's education, science and culture has far exceeded that of the capitalist countries. The Soviet Union established the world's first atomic power station, made the world's first batch of jet passenger planes, made the world's first batch of intercontinental ballistic rockets, launched the world's first and second satellites, and opened a new era for mankind to conquer nature. All of these are not only the pride of the Soviet people, but also the pride of the proletariat in the world, but also the pride of all mankind. Those who are unhappy about this are only some reactionaries.

"As the revolutionary mentor Comrade Lenin said, the ice has been broken, the road has been opened, and the route has been pointed out." At this time, there was thunderous applause in the entire venue. "We must note that in a wide range of world, the socialist movement is booming, and in Southeast Asia, the local people are bravely taking out weapons to fight resolutely. In the Middle East and South America, the oppressed people at the bottom awakened their thoughts and began to fight for a basic need for people, which is the need of life, the need of individuals, and the need of society. The comrades in Europe have won the rights and interests of the people through peaceful means. No matter what means do this, I firmly believe in one thing."

Speaking of this, Khrushchev stopped thinking and slowly took off his glasses with his trembling hands. An old man in his seventies was unprecedentedly straight, his expression was so sincere, and his eyes were so hot. This performance made the entire venue silent and waiting, wanting to know what Khrushchev wanted to say.

"I firmly believe that capitalism will be buried, and the final winner will be us. Maybe I can't see this day, but this day will inevitably come. No matter whether some countries are willing or not, history will prove that if we want to bury a capitalist society, the future of mankind will inevitably belong to us!" Khrushchev said his classic quote when he presided over the last meeting, which is more important than ten years ago.

All members of the Central Committee, representatives of the Supreme Soviet, including Selov below, Sermichasne, Chairman of the Russian Council of Ministers, Yegorechev, First Secretary of the Moscow Municipal Party Committee, Khalazov, Second Secretary of Lithuania, Tikunov, Minister of Petroleum Industry, Meshatsev, President of TASS, Kochemasov, First Secretary of Azerbaijan, Gorunov, Chairman of the Soviet Radio, and Torskykov, First Secretary of the Leningrad Municipal Party Committee, all stood up and applauded, without using slogans, but expressed their support for Khrushchev with silent actions.

"Look at those people!" Chernenko also stood up at the same time and poked Selbitsky beside him with a hidden movement.

"Huh?" Serbizky looked at Chirnenko, then glanced over Chirnenko and looked at the group of people. Around Serbizky, Minister of the Soviet Ministry of Internal Affairs, Serbizky, Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee Pavlov, Vice Chairman of the Soviet Council of Ministers Novikov, Vice Chairman of the Soviet Council of Ministers Jihonov, Vice Chairman of the Soviet Council of Ministers Zinev, Vice Chairman of the KGB, Tsvigon, Vice Chairman of the KGB, and Chebrikov, Chairman of the KGB of Belarus.

At this moment, Selov also saw Selbizky after reminding him, and the two nodded to each other. The two groups of people sat down one step slower than the other Central Committee members, but they would not seem too abrupt.

It seems that his strength is very strong, which is what Selov and Selbizky thought after they sat down. If we consider the large number of members of the Central Committee, friends such as Sherepin are almost the largest group in the Soviet Union at this stage. Sherepin still has to face his opponent Sherest. Although Podgorne has stepped down, Sherest is also a member of the Central Presidium. But in fact, this consideration is definitely wrong. Brezhnev has been a local cadre for many years. When the time comes, if he wants to find cadres who obey his own opinions, he simply wants to have as much as he wants, but those cadres are still dormant.

Khrushchev did not see the following situation, and he continued to make his own report, "We should have firm beliefs and use our will to overcome the difficulties we face until the final victory."

After Khrushchev finished his speech, the Supreme Soviet Chairman Migoyang walked to the front of the rostrum. Compared to Khrushchev's passionate speech, the nominal head of the Soviet Union spoke very gently. He talked about some mistakes and problems that had occurred in the Soviet Union, but his tone was absolutely not fierce. At the same time, he showed that he was too old and no longer suitable for the highest position. He should get off from the position of the Supreme Soviet Chairman, do some secondary work, and give the main work to more energetic leading cadres.

Strictly speaking, Migoyan is not retiring, but resigning as chairman of the Supreme Soviet and a member of the Central Presidium. He can continue to work, but he will not make a debut on the highest stage in the future.

"I propose that Comrade Brezhnev serve as the first secretary, Comrade Kosigin serve as the chairman of the Council of Ministers, and Comrade Xie Lieping serve as the second secretary. Please vote and vote on the appointments of the three comrades. At the same time, because of the vacancies left by Comrade Migoyang and I, I recommend the Central Secretary, Comrade Andropov, Minister of the Central Liaison Department, and Comrade Serov, the General Political Commissar of the National Security Council, and the Chairman of the National Security Committee, to join the Central Presidium to work and lead the work in their respective fields." After Khrushchev finished speaking, he and Migoyang returned to their respective positions.

"Don't vote for me! Vote against..." Selov whispered to Yegorechev and the others beside him.

"Why, what a good opportunity this is." Yegorechev also lowered his voice, but his voice was full of questions. He thought whether Selov was crazy. The member of the Central Presidium said that he was in a position and was leveled with everyone. As a result, Selov didn't want to go up? What a joke.

"Just listen to me!" Selov didn't say much. Khrushchev is still the first secretary now. Basically, as long as he proposes, this matter cannot be escaped. Anyway, if he can be sure, he doesn't need to pursue 100% vote of approval.

In the end, all Khrushchev's proposals were passed, and Selov voted the most against the Central Presidium, but in fact they were all voted by Yegorechev and others. Selov also entered the Central Presidium.

From this meeting, the Soviet Union had actually entered the Brezhnev era. Of course, Brezhnev is only a weak first secretary. After the vote, Brezhnev was as gentle as ever and expressed that he must thoroughly implement collective leadership and use all his abilities to develop the Soviet Union. (~^~)
