Chapter 14 Invitation
Detective Bureau, Closed Murder Division.
Luke and David walked into the office one after another.
The silver-haired deputy laughed and said, "Oh, the two top officers from the police detective bureau are back. Have you found the suspect Tony?"
David replied casually, "No, we found Tony's house, but there was no one there. Judging from the situation in the house, he had been gone for at least a week."
"Since you didn't see Tony, how did you get into the house?" The deputy captain finished his words and waved his hand, "Forget it, pretend I didn't ask, you should report to the captain."
Jenny said, "David, are you hurt?"
David wiped the corner of his mouth subconsciously, "We had an accident when we were trying to find out about Tony, but the good news is that we developed a member of the local drag racing gang into a temporary informant. He agreed to help find out about Tony."
Having said this, David looked at the civilian staff aside and said, "Matthew, we need more information about Tony. You have to work harder."
Matthew stood up, pushed up his glasses, and explained, "I've been checking, but there aren't many records on him.
More than ten years ago, Tony opened a small restaurant, which closed down after a short period of time. He also has some stock trading records, and he did not work for a long time.
There was no serious work after that.
There are some medical records, the most recent one was a drug overdose three years ago and he was sent to the hospital.
He also went to drug rehab five times, but obviously without success."
Marcus curled his lips, "There are many such people in the slums. They are on the fringes of the city. It is difficult to find them with official information. The best way is to go through gangs or relatives and friends."
Luke asked, "What about Tony's immediate family members?"
Matthew replied, "Tony's hometown is Nevada and he moved to California twenty years ago. His relatives are also in Nevada. We haven't found their contact information yet."
The United States does not have a household registration system, and there is a large flow of people between cities. As the second largest city in the United States, Los Angeles has a large influx of people every year.
Luke asked David, "Should you report to the captain, or should I?"
David pointed to his face, "Do you think my current appearance is appropriate?"
Luke knocked on the door and entered the captain's office.
"Captain, I'm here to report to you on the progress of this investigation."
Susan pointed to the chair opposite, "Sit down and talk."
Luke briefly described the investigation into the gun store and Tony's house.
I did some processing on the expression to highlight my own role and weaken David's actions.
This is not because he deliberately grabs the credit, but because some of David's actions are not suitable to be told to Susan, and they can be regarded as protection for David.
Good for both of them.
After Susan listened, she asked, "Is that informant trustworthy?"
"He has no direct relationship with Tony. I believe he will do his best for his own freedom."
"Keep an eye on this person and don't cause any trouble."
"I will." After Luke finished speaking, he changed the subject and said, "Captain, there is one more thing I want to tell you."
"Say it."
"I want to change partners."
"Why?"
"Maybe... David and I don't have the right temperament."
"But as far as I know, your personal relationship is pretty good."
"Conflicts will arise after a husband and wife have been together for a long time, let alone a partner. I still want to change partners."
"Then give me a reasonable reason."
Luke thought for a moment and said, "David and I have somewhat different ways of investigating the case. I feel that some of his actions are a bit radical. Although they are also for the purpose of investigating the case, they are likely to be complained.
I tried to persuade David to be more reasonable, but obviously he wouldn't listen."
"You are right. David's investigation methods are indeed radical and reckless, and he has repeatedly violated police regulations. We were old acquaintances when we were working in the Internal Affairs Department."
"Do you agree to my changing partners?"
"No."
"Why?"
"I'm glad that we have the same idea. You two are partners. When David makes a mistake, you can stop him immediately and help me keep an eye on him."
"Are you kidding me?"
"I am serious. You can report to me at any time if there is any situation."
"I became your informant?"
Susan pointed outside, "The people in this office are all my informants. Is there any problem?"
"No...you are the boss."
"Very good, you can go out."
Luke stood up and walked to the door, then came back and said, "David has been in the Robbery and Murder Division for many years and has more seniority than me. Even if I try to persuade him, he won't listen."
"Then what do you think?"
"Can I be the leader when I'm out on duty? This way I can better control the situation."
"Can."
"If you could talk to David in person, I believe he would be more restrained."
"David is the detective, you are just a detective. I can't order him to listen to you. I will support you, but not in this way. If you want to gain the initiative, fight for it yourself."
"How to fight for it?"
"That's your problem. Close the door for me, thank you."
"It was...pleasant to talk to you." Luke closed the door forcefully.
…
David glanced at Luke and said, "You look a little bad. Did you slap the horse's hooves when you flattered him?"
Luke was a little depressed. Depending on the situation, he couldn't get rid of this guy for the time being.
"Ding ding ding..." Luke's cell phone rang.
An unknown number.
"Hello."
"Are you Officer Luke?"
"It's me, who?"
"I'm Daisy. Are you free tomorrow? To express my gratitude, I would like to treat you to dinner."
Luke said, "Miss Daisy, it is my duty to catch criminals. I can feel your sincerity and thank you for the invitation, but it is really not necessary."
"Maybe it's nothing to you, but it's very important to me. You saved my life. If I couldn't thank you in person, I would feel very uneasy."
Luke said, "I'm still working overtime today, and I'm not sure if I can take a day off tomorrow."
"Then I won't disturb your work and will contact you later."
David asked, "You have a new date so soon?"
"It was the young lady who I saved. To express her gratitude, she wanted to treat me to dinner."
Marcus was very interested in this topic and came over, "Let's go then. I remember her name is Daisy. She is very beautiful and has a great figure. Maybe..."
Marcus winked and showed a look that you know.
Luke said, "She has a boyfriend."
Marcus asked curiously, "How do you know? You two have known each other before."
When encountering this kind of situation in China, Luke would usually not go there, but this is Los Angeles, and Luke is a little unsure.
It just so happened that he also wanted to hear the opinions of his colleagues.
Luke told the story of the first encounter between the two and what happened before the crime.
Marcus laughed after hearing this, "Her so-called boyfriend is just a perfunctory excuse. It is just an excuse to refuse to talk to her. It does not mean that she really has a boyfriend.
A woman who really has a boyfriend will not say that she has a boyfriend right away. Believe me, this is all based on experience."
