Chapter 31 Conflict (Third update!)
Robbery and Murder Division.
Luke and his team returned to the office and placed Steven in the lounge.
Susan called Luke and others to the conference room.
Raymond reported the investigation process to Susan and the deputy team.
The deputy team member curled his lips, "My wife is dancing in the club, my husband is furious, there is definitely something wrong with this guy. We need to find a way to pry his mouth open before the lawyer comes."
Luke said, "We tried, but he said he wouldn't say anything until the lawyer came."
"We were just chatting with him, not interrogating him." The deputy team got up and went to the lounge.
Luke also followed out, he also wanted to see what clues this experienced old man could come up with.
"Creak..." The deputy team opened the door to the lounge.
Steven glanced at him and then looked out the door.
The deputy team leader pulled up a chair and sat next to him, "Your name is Steven?"
Steven glanced at him again and didn't answer.
"Are you mute?"
Steven lowered his head and remained silent.
"You know? The more conflicting your emotions are, the more the police will suspect you. If you want to clear the suspicion and rescue your wife as soon as possible, you should cooperate with the police and let us have a good chat.
I have been married three times in my life, and every time I have the urge to kill my wife, but they are all living well now.
I can understand the conflicts between husband and wife. Life is about constantly encountering conflicts and resolving them, which is normal."
Steven raised his head and said, "I want to see a lawyer."
The deputy team leader shook his head, "Lawyers can indeed protect your rights, but they can't solve the fundamental problem. They won't solve the case, and they won't be able to find your wife. If you are innocent, there is no need to find a lawyer."
"I won't say anything without a lawyer." Steven said firmly.
The deputy team leader was a little depressed. Steven didn't answer the call at all, so there was little chance of extracting information.
He glanced out the window and wondered if it was shameful to go out like this.
Just when he was about to try again, the door to the lounge opened, and a man in a suit with a briefcase stood at the door, "I am Steven's lawyer and I want to talk to him alone."
The deputy team nodded and left the lounge.
Marcus came over and said, "Deputy team, have you found any clues?"
"Go and get me a cup of coffee without sugar." The deputy looked like he was keeping away from strangers.
Having learned from the past, everyone stopped asking for trouble.
Ten minutes later, the door to the lounge opened.
The lawyer stood at the door and said, "Police officers, my client is ready."
Susan glanced at several of her men, "David, Luke, come in with me."
As soon as he entered the door, the lawyer introduced himself, "I am Dave Wilson, Steven's lawyer. What are the names of the three police officers?"
"I am Captain Susan, Detective David, and Detective Luke of the 1st Squadron of the Robbery and Murder Division."
The lawyer asked, "Captain Susan, why did you bring my client to the police station?"
"His wife Alyssa may have been kidnapped, and we asked him to come and understand the situation."
"Is it just understanding the situation, or are you treating my client as a suspect?"
"understand situation."
"OK, maybe the tone of your men's words made my client misunderstood. I don't want something like this to happen again, otherwise, I will take him away directly."
David sneered, "Wow, he will leave if he disagrees with you. He is such a good and conscientious husband."
Steven retorted, "I don't need you to teach me how to be a husband?"
David sarcastically said, "It seems you are ready to find a new wife."
"No, I love my wife."
The lawyer interrupted Steven, "Captain Susan, please restrain your subordinate. He obviously has a prejudice against my client."
Susan pointed to Luke beside her, "You ask."
Luke organized his words, "Steven, we have no intention of targeting you. Our questioning is to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the situation and to find the whereabouts of your wife as soon as possible.
Do you want to find her sooner?"
"certainly."
Luke got straight to the point, "You know about Alyssa dancing at Ball's Club?"
The lawyer reminded, "Steven, this is a private matter between you and your husband. You don't have to answer."
Luke said, "Steven, you can't avoid this question. Even if you don't say anything, the police will continue to investigate. It will only delay the search for Alyssa. Every second longer will increase her risk."
"Are you threatening my client?"
"No, you are too sensitive."
Steven hesitated for a moment, "Yes, I know about this?"
"How do you know?"
"I found those photos in the express locker."
"Then what?"
"I put the photo at her parents' house."
"Why do you do this?"
"I'm very angry... I never thought she would do such a thing behind my back. I want her parents to see these photos and let them know the good things their daughter has done."
"Besides these, what else have you done?"
The lawyer quickly stopped him, "Steven, don't answer, they are trying to trick you."
Steven said, "Other than that, I didn't do anything."
David interjected, "If I knew my wife danced like this, I would definitely kill her."
The lawyer stood up and patted Steven on the shoulder, "We should go."
Susan said, "Our conversation is not over yet."
The lawyer was dissatisfied and said, "Captain Susan, you just said you just understood the situation, but your men obviously interrogated my client as a suspect.
Just because my client's wife was dancing in the club does not mean that my client is guilty.
There is no reason for your kind of targeting."
Susan said, "The police investigation is to eliminate all possibilities. We are responsible not only for the victim, but also for the victim's family. Only when Steven's doubts are eliminated can we believe him.
There are no problems with my men's investigation ideas."
The atmosphere in the lounge became deadlocked.
The lawyer exchanged a few words with Steven in a low voice and said to Susan, "If you still want to continue talking to my client, please let Detective David go out first."
Susan turned her head and signaled for David to leave the lounge first.
David stood up, pointed at his eyes, then pointed at Steven, and then left the lounge.
Steven finally sat down and said, "Captain Susan, I thank you for your seriousness and responsibility, but you really made a mistake and admitted it. I will never hurt Alyssa, never."
Susan asked, "Then what is your purpose of putting the photos at Alyssa's parents' house?"
"I love Alyssa, and after seeing those photos, I was so sad. I didn't have the courage to confront her face to face, otherwise I would lose her.
So, I wanted to let her parents know in this way.
I know her parents, they are old-fashioned and conservative and would never allow Alyssa to dance in the club.
I hope they can persuade Alyssa, that's all." Steven's eyes were red and his tone was sincere.
Luke said, "In that case, you can just explain it clearly, so why bother looking for a lawyer?"
Steven showed a wry smile, "Even if I say it, will you definitely believe me?
If you don't believe me, I don't believe you either. If the lawyer is not around, I won't be able to cope with the current situation and I will be eaten by you."
Luke continued to probe, "Where were you last Friday night?"
The lawyer said with a cold face, "Steven, you don't need to answer."
Steven pondered for a moment, "I'm at home."
"Who can prove it?"
Steven showed an angry look and stood up, "That's why I'm looking for a lawyer. As long as I compromise, you will keep asking me. You don't trust me at all!"
If you can't catch the suspect, then you come to target me.
