Chapter 317 Idiot(2/3)

Before going back, take care of what needs to be done.

Early the next morning, Luke went to the Natural History Museum with his family.

Luke is quite looking forward to this museum.

There were many people visiting the Natural History Museum, mostly parents taking their children with them. Luke and others went to the venue half an hour in advance to queue up.

The museum didn't open until ten o'clock in the morning, and Luke's family followed the crowd into the museum.

Entering the lobby on the first floor, you will see a huge African wild elephant specimen.

The second floor is an exhibition hall of mineral resources and gemstones. It is said that the blue diamond "Star of Hope" weighing 45 grams was also on display.

Each exhibition hall has its own special place, which restores extremely realistic natural biological chains, allowing visitors to learn something while visiting.

It was almost noon before Luke and others finished visiting the Natural History Museum. Not to mention minors like Fatty, Luke himself felt that he had benefited a lot.

After lunch, the family went to the Library of Congress.

However, Luke himself did not go, but made an appointment with Orti.

K Street.

The street is located between Capitol Hill and White House, running from west to east across northern Washington. It is the famous "Speaking Street" in the United States.

A large number of think tanks, lobbying groups, public relations companies, civil society organizations, international headquarters, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund have also settled here.

If "Wall Street" in New York is the center of international finance, then "K Street" in Washington can be said to be the center of ever-changing international politics.

Luke and Orti were walking on the streets of Washington. The weather had turned cold. Orti was wearing a khaki windbreaker and gray stockings. He had a graceful figure and turned heads.

The two of them walked not very fast. As Luke walked, he observed the square gray buildings on both sides.

After leaving this time, there is a high probability that he will not come to Washington in the short term.

Luke is well-known in Los Angeles and has a little bit of power. He can be regarded as a local snake, someone who no one wants to mess with as long as he doesn't seek death.

But he is a small fish in Washington. If he makes a wave, even if he is only caught by the remaining waves, he may be knocked over.

Just like the Mexican-American civilian who was also awarded the award, the forces behind it were obviously targeting Wang Wang. Wang Wang might be a little unhappy because of this incident, but that was it. However, this Mexican-American civilian was photographed dead on the beach.

Although he was in good health, he was already dead, which was very tragic.

Orti stopped and pointed to an eight-story gray building in front of him, "The headquarters of the Pinkerton Detective Agency is here."

"The whole building?"

"No, only the eighth and seventh floors are there. If you knew the rent price here, you wouldn't ask this."

Orti took Luke directly to the eighth floor of the elevator.

After getting off the elevator, there were two men in suits standing at the door. Orti showed an ID and the two were allowed to enter the corridor.

There are about ten offices in one building. Most of the offices have glass doors. Luke can see the environment in the office through the glass. It feels no different from an ordinary company.

This surprised Luke.

Before, Luke had been wondering what the headquarters of the famous Pinkerton Detective Agency would look like?

Luke thought about various possibilities, such as underground buildings, hidden alleys, etc., but he never expected such a scene. If he didn't know better, he would have thought he was in a law firm.

Under Orti's leadership, Luke entered the east-most office. As soon as he entered, he saw a large office area divided into many independent small office rooms. Some independent offices were separated by glass near the window. The windows were blocked with blinds for privacy.

The sex wasn't very good.

Walking along the passage, you will find an office with solid walls and wooden doors on the easternmost side. You can't see what's going on inside at all. It is also the most private office.

Luke glanced at it and saw that there was no sign on the door of this office.

There is a desk next to the office, and a white woman about forty years old is sitting behind it.

"Good afternoon Ms. Mena, I'm here to see the president."

"Hello, Miss Dean."

Ms. Mena glanced at Luke, nodded, then walked to the office and knocked on the door, "Dong dong..."

"Please come in."

After Ms. Mena opened the door, she said, "President, Miss Dean is here."

"Please come in for me." A man's voice came from the room.

Ms. Mena stepped aside and made a gesture of invitation.

Orti led Luke into the office.

A slightly bald white man in his fifties stood up to greet him, "Long time no see Orti.

Mr. Li, nice to meet you."

"Me too, President Bailey."

The man in front of me is Kundula Bailey, the president of the North American office of Pinkerton Detective Agency.

"Please sit down, both of you." Kundula Bailey motioned for the two of them to sit on the sofa.

Ms. Mena walked in with a tray, placed three cups of black tea on the coffee table, closed the door and went out.

Kundula Bailey said, "Mr. Lee, I've wanted to meet you since the last shooting in Las Vegas.

I know you will become a hero, and this turbulent world needs heroes like you."

Luke said, "I do have the ability to be a hero, and I have done some heroic things.

But people’s definition of a hero is more about a moral and spiritual level, and I don’t like this artificial definition.”

Kundula Bailey nodded, "I can understand what you mean, this is a bit like the American election. Every candidate seems to be just and full of endless enthusiasm and selfless dedication to this country.

But who can stand up to the investigation secretly?

Everyone has two sides, so don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Just show people the side they want to see.

You are their hero, not because you hope, but because they hope that having such a hero will make them feel safer."

"Listening to what you said, I feel much more calm." In fact, while receiving the award, Luke was also worried that once he was defined as a 'hero', he would receive more attention and some of his actions would be magnified.

Now think about it, which of the previous commanders has no dirty information and has reached a high position. In comparison, Luke's words, deeds, and actions are much safer than them.

"Mr. Li, you have cooperated with the firm several times since you were hired as a consultant and helped the firm complete several commissions.

Your abilities are outstanding, and the firm hopes to deepen its cooperative relationship with you."

"Which aspect?"

"For example, we can set up a separate detective team for you.

What would you say if the right delegation was assigned directly to your team, with you responsible for leading and assigning tasks?”

Orti had not mentioned this beforehand. Luke turned to look at Orti and found that she was also a little surprised.

Luke thought for a moment and said, "President Bailey, thank you for your trust. Your proposal is also very exciting.

But I am very satisfied with the way I live and work now, and so is my collaboration with Pinkerton Detective Agency.

I get along very well with Orti, and if the detective agency needs me for anything, she can contact me.

I will do my best."

Luke's rejection of Kundula Bailey's proposal had two main considerations.

First of all, Luke is quite satisfied with the current situation. His focus is still on the police station. If he agrees to the proposal to form a team, he will definitely focus more on detective work.

He is not short of money now, so there is no need to make himself so tired.

Secondly, detective work will inevitably intersect with the case, and the conversation will become a bit weird at this time. Even if he is talking to Orti, who is familiar with him, Luke will use the detection card.

If he leads another detective team, the number of detection cards used will increase greatly, and some losses will outweigh the gains.

All things considered, Luke still thinks it would be better to have a contact with the detective agency, and Orti can fulfill this role very well.

"Okay, I respect your decision." Kundula Bailey didn't force it and changed the topic.

The two sides chatted for a while, and half an hour later Luke said goodbye and left.

At around three o'clock in the afternoon, Luke and Orti were strolling through the streets of Washington.

Orti turned to look at Luke aside, "Thank you."

Luke rejected Kundula Bailey's proposal out of self-interest, but it did indirectly help Orti. Once Luke established his own detective team, the role of Orti as a contact would be greatly weakened.

"You can't just say thank you with your mouth. It's too insincere."

Orti thought for a while and said, "There is a nice cafe in front. I'll treat you to afternoon tea."

"Sounds good. This is the first time a woman has invited me to afternoon tea."

"Then let's go. Maybe you will like this feeling. It's much cheaper than booking a room in a hotel."

“I still prefer the hotel swimming pool.”

Orti “…”
