Volume Four, Empire of Arms, Chapter 30, Half an Hour
The battle came suddenly and quickly...
Although the war still began with bombing, the US military's combat methods and tactical ideas have undergone revolutionary changes compared to the previous large-scale regional war.
When major TV stations make related reports, they use the Iraq War in the early 21st century as a comparison.
Strictly speaking, the Iraq War is a "local conflict" and not a "regional war". After more than 0 years of embargo and sanctions, the combat effectiveness of the Iraqi army during Saddam's administration was not even comparable to that of the Gulf War in the early 1990s. The armed forces of Kurdish workers in the country were weak and it was impossible to confront the US military. After the Iraq War broke out, the US ground troops rushed in, not only overthrew the Saddam regime in a ruthless way, but also captured Saddam alive and won the victory at a very slight price.
In fact, whether it was the Kosovo War before Iraq or the Afghan War afterwards, it was all "conflict".
In the three wars, the US military either did not fight against the opponent on the ground battlefield or dealt with a group of mobs. The strength of the two sides in the war was too disparate, which was equivalent to smashing an egg with a stone. Not only did there be no suspense, it did not challenge the US military.
The U.S.-Iran war that broke out in 20177 was completely different.
Iran is the country with the strongest political, economic and military strength in the Gulf region. It has a land area of 1645,000 square kilometers (three times that of Iraq), a population of 65 million (two times that of Iraq), and a total strength of 1.27 million (two times that of Iraq before the Gulf War). These three data show that Iran is not only a regional power, but also has the strength to compete with the US military.
If you really want to compare it, you should compare it with the Gulf War in the early 1990s.
Before the outbreak of the Gulf War, the international community unanimously condemned Iraq's troops to invade Kuwait. Even the Soviet Union (the Soviet Union had not announced its disintegration at the time) and China did not support Iraq. The United States used international public opinion to quickly gather dozens of Western countries and dispatched hundreds of thousands of troops to help Kuwait "restore the country". It can be said that the United States first achieved a "moral" victory, and then sent troops to attack Iraq.
This time, the United States is not "reasonable".
Although US President Frederick later announced that Iran secretly supported the "Islamic Jihadist Liberation Organization" to attack the US team and tried to overthrow the legal government of Iraq. The United States was "forced" to send troops to clear out the training camps of the "Islamic Jihadist Liberation Organization" in mainland Iran. However, the United States started fighting first and then declared. Whether the attack in Basratland was related to the "Islamic Jihadist Liberation Organization" still needs to be verified.
Without sufficient reason and sufficient evidence, the US military's blatant bombing of Iran is a naked act of "aggression".
The war began. The United States lost "morality" first.
Tactically speaking, the US military and local combat operations are not only "various" and are also "impeccable".
It can be said that the US military not only invested a large number of weapons and equipment participating in the first actual combat field, but also widely tested the new tactics of the birthplace after the Iraq War.
The first one to "appear" is the US military's "Aerospace Expeditionary Force".
The concept of "Aerospace Expeditionary Force" was born during Bush's presidency. The core forces were B-body bombers and F-22a stealth fighters. According to the concept proposed by the US Secretary of Defense at that time, the main strike forces of the "Aerospace Expeditionary Force" were composed of B-2 and 12f-22, and were assisted and supported by tankers, early warning aircraft, reconnaissance aircraft, military reconnaissance satellite network, military communication satellite network and global positioning satellite system. The main task was to destroy the enemy's military command center and air defense positions at the fastest speed at the beginning of the war, paralyze the enemy's military command capabilities, defeat the enemy's national air defense capabilities, lay the foundation for subsequent large-scale air strikes.
In actual use, the "Aerospace Expeditionary Force" shall be formulated based on the actual situation.
This time, the US military dispatched 12b-2 and 20f-22. The main reason is that the first batch of targets were all underground command centers. JDA and "small-diameter bombs" could not achieve the purpose of destruction. Heavy drilling weapons such as mdb must be used. In this case, 1 b can carry 2 bombs and its attack ability is limited.
The effect of the first round of strikes is undoubtedly.
With just two mbdds called the "Mother of Bombs", the Iranian Land and Air Defense Command was completely destroyed. All other important military targets in the attack were blown up, and none of them were spared.
All 12b-2 performing bombing missions and 20f-22 performing escort missions are returned to Digo Garcia Air Force Base safely.
Until this time, the Iranian army had not reacted.
It’s not that I don’t know that the war has broken out, but that after the command hub was destroyed, the Iranian army was unable to react.
Although a large number of Iranian Air Force fighter jets took off urgently to avoid the upcoming second round of bombing, Iran had no time to organize resistance when the second round of bombing of the US military arrived.
At 4:17, the first batch of US tactical attack aircraft entered the air over Iran.
The pioneers of the second round of bombing were the US Air Force attack aircraft unit with F-35 as the main force and the US Navy Air Force attack unit with F-35c as the main force. The focus of tactical bombing was Iran's regional air defense command, air defense missile positions and front-line airports.
According to the subsequent announcement by the US military, this round of bombing has received significant results.
The Air Force's F-35 was divided into 8 aircraft groups, bombing Huzistan: the air command center, long-range air defense missile positions and two military airports. A total of only 96 bombs were dropped, with a hit rate of more than 95%, and all 8 targets were destroyed.
The three air wings of the US Navy dispatched a total of 36 F-36c to bomb the air defense command center on the northern coast of the Persian Gulf, 6 long-range air defense missile positions, military airports and long-range shore missile launch positions, and threw 1 "small-diameter bomb", with a hit rate of 92%, and all 18 targets were destroyed.
The actual situation is not so ideal.
According to the information collected by the Military Intelligence Bureau, the success rate of the US Air Force's local bombing was only 80%, and the success rate of the Navy's air force was less than 75%. The US Air Force subsequently dispatched 12f-35s and the Navy's air force 16 f-35cs to supplement the bombing of undestroyed targets.
During this period, the Iranian naval coastal defense forces also launched nine anti-ship missiles at the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier combat group in the mainland of the Persian Gulf, but did not pose any threat to US warships.
The second round of bombing kicked off the tactical bombing.
At 4:30, the 8b-52h bomber that took off from the United States launched 96 AGM-86g air-launched cruise missiles over the Mediterranean.
This war is the last "stage performance" of the B-52 series bombers and the AGM-86 series air-launched cruise missiles. According to the US military's local plan, the B-52h type bombers will be retired before 20211, and the AGM-86 series air-launched cruise missiles will also be withdrawn at this time. Perhaps the US military wants to use up all the AGM-86g stocks before the B-52h is retired.
The escort warships in the six aircraft carrier battle groups participating in the combat operation were also put into battle at this time.
The Arlei Burke-class destroyers in the battle group of the USS Nimitz and the USS Stanis, and the DDG1000 Zumwalt, which belongs to the USS Bush aircraft carrier battle group, respectively launched several AGMM-11c9d cruise missiles at military targets in Iran. The first time the Zumwalt attacked the ground-shore defense missile launch position on the east side of the Port of Abbas with a caliber 155mm guns.
The bombardment lasted only 3 minutes and consumed 27 long-range shells opened a new era for the Navy.
By this time, the third round of bombing of the US air force had begun.
The F-15e aircraft group, the F-166 aircraft group, and the F/a-18e/f aircraft group, the Navy, were successively put into combat and used "outside the defense zone ammunition" to bomb Iran's military targets.
On the surface, the US military's bombing operations are not much different from those in the past.
The most advanced fighter jets were dispatched to destroy the enemy's command center, the first round of tactical bombing destroyed the enemy's long-range air defense forces, used cruise missiles to supplement bombing, and then dispatched tactical aircraft with relatively poor performance to bomb the enemy's military targets with "outside the defense zone ammunition".
In fact, the combat capabilities demonstrated by the US military in just half an hour far exceeded the expectations of the outside world.
First of all, the networked combat capabilities were fully reflected. In the Gulf War in the 1990s, the US military spent a day destroying Iraq's air defense capabilities and laying the foundation for ground attacks. This time, the US military completed more than 80% of the combat missions in just half an hour, making Iran's air defense power useless. In combat operations, the US military has always adhered to the principle of "whoever is convenient and whoever is important to attack", so as to maximize the effectiveness of air strikes.
Secondly, the large-scale use of unmanned combat aircraft gave the US military more choices. Although the United States did not announce the role of unmanned combat aircraft in bombing, according to the intelligence collected by the Military Intelligence Agency and Russian intelligence agencies, several hours before the war began, the US unmanned reconnaissance aircraft penetrated into Iranian airspace and locked in a large number of military targets. After the war started, the drones also took on the task of guiding attacks and judging the effects of bombing, replacing the ground special forces.
Finally, the large number of new weapons and equipment were used. The giant cannon of the Zumwalter made the world believe for the first time that naval guns are not only not outdated, but are one of the most effective means of strike. The widespread application of "small-diameter bombs" has allowed everyone to see the prospect of miniaturizing ammunition in the era of precise guidance. "Outside the defense ammunition" allows US fighters to accurately bomb ground targets without entering the strike range of medium and short-range air defense systems. The f-22a and f-35 show ground combat efficiency, and let the whole world know the strength of the fourth-generation fighter.
There was no suspense in the first half hour of battle.
In addition to blindly launching a large number of anti-aircraft missiles and consuming a lot of anti-aircraft artillery shells, Iran's only counterattack was to launch nine anti-ship missiles at the Nimitz aircraft carrier.
When the military reporter sent back the first report, claiming that the US military had achieved a "unprecedented" major victory, the situation on the battlefield quietly changed.
Before 150, the US military lost only one f/a-18e fighter.
By 15:00 c5, the US military had lost 7 fighter jets, including one F-35, and all seven fighter jets were shot down by Iran's air defense missiles.
The battle situation changed drastically, and the US military could no longer laugh. (To be continued,)
