Chapter 16 The Avengers Project
"These are just one-sided words!" The old man sitting in the main seat shook his head and said, "Nick, it's not that I don't trust you, but we can't rely on the madman's murmurs and make up our minds to fully support a plan that has not been rigorously argued. Apart from our genes, there is no evidence to prove what you said."
"You make us believe without reservation what you say from a madman is nothing more than a fantasy. We can never draw the truth from a single evidence, nor will we be merciless at the mercy of a madman who wants to destroy the world, so we cannot agree to your plan unless you have a complete chain of evidence that proves what you say."
After awakening from the sudden impact, the directors returned to their usual calmness. Although the genetic map was shocking, it actually didn't mean anything. One-sided evidence could never clearly describe the truth. If a chain of evidence that could not be found for multiple and mutual proofs, Nick's statement can only be used as a reference, not a decisive evidence.
Nick was not surprised by the veto of the Council, "Then let's put this proposal aside..." He reached out and picked up a document from the side, "From the current situation, it can be seen that conventional force faces our 'creator', except for its own casualties. Whether it is mobility, lethality, or intelligence capabilities, we have almost no advantage in large-scale wars. Skynet can withstand more than 90% of the war losses, and our army's casualties exceed three levels, morale will drop seriously."
"What we exchanged for our lives was just a little loss of industrial products on the other side. Skynet could even reuse those lost machinery in a blink of an eye, with a reuse rate of up to 90%.
When he said this, the atmosphere of the board became solemn, and the directors looked at each other and silently agreed with Nick's statement.
“It’s time to start that plan!”
"Avenger?" asked a director sitting on the right.
"Yes. Avengers!" Nick submitted a document "Collection of our best superheroes to gain an advantage over the enemy on a battlefield with a narrow contact surface. This is the core tactic of the Avengers, which was originally used to deal with increasingly frequent terrorist attacks and accidents around the world. Science makes the challenges we face more and more hidden and sudden. No one knows what kind of devastating disaster a down-and-out scientist will cause, so we need superheroes."
"But from another perspective, we are facing an enemy with overwhelming positive power. The strength of this 'creator' has been seen throughout the world, enough to destroy a powerful country. If a full-scale war breaks out, are we ready for those who fight scorched earth, and can we bear endless casualties? The battlefield is in our home?"
"We need... local combat!" The director of the head said with half open and half closed his eyes, thinking.
"Yes, with the Avengers as the core, concentrate their strength, conduct small-scale and low-intensity infiltration and attacks against the core interests of Skynet, and use the flexible and changeable combat strategies of superheroes to gain an advantage over Skynet in some areas."
The Council thought about it for a long time and finally made a decision: "Agree to launch the Avengers Project!"
The Avengers are a small-scale superhero group, and Nick intends to control the number of people below ten. This way, the candidate becomes very important. Nick hopes that the Avengers are a group with comprehensive abilities and strategic significance, rather than a special force with particularly strong combat power. Therefore, obedience is not important. What Nick values is the infinite possibilities of the Avengers.
"We don't need a sharp knife, such as a super special forces directed by an arm. This kind of force may be a powerful killer to other threats, but facing the 'creator' is a joke. Don't expect a child to threaten a fully armed monster with a knife. What I want is infinite possibilities, miracles..."
"If there is anything that can free us from the control of the Creator, it can only be a miracle!"
As proposals within S.H.I.E.D. were rejected one by one, Nick became more and more irritable. He waved a stack of Avengers information in his hand, and his one-eyed eye looked at the people present. He had a sense of awe-inspiring oppression.
Among the Fantastic Four, Reed surrendered to Doctor Doom, and the remaining three people, although eager to fight, are no longer suitable to participate in the Avengers. Moreover, Nick does not want such a hero who has formed a fixed team to join. The Avengers should be a brand new piece of white paper.
"Take out the trickiest superheroes for me, those who are not obeyed and have personality flaws, those you can't control. I don't need these "good kids". What I want is the "thorns" that can create impossible "strange guys", crazy, weird, those who can cause trouble for you anytime and anywhere, and always create miracles."
Nick threw the information hard on the table, and a female clerk next to him shivered.
"Do you have anything to say?" Nick looked at him with his one-eye, scaring her to almost faint.
"Tho...Tony Stark!" said the female clerk tremblingly.
"What?" Nick couldn't react for a moment when he heard the name that gave him a headache.
The female clerk pointed to the gossip magazine on the desktop tremblingly. Tony Stark's smile on it looked particularly dazzling, and a line of small words marked below that I am Iron Man.
The tragedy of New York, and what is Iron Man doing?
Tony Stark's new love revealed: He is indulging in joy and has no concern for New York!
Taking over New York, Total War, Stark Industrial's stock price rose by five points.
"No, he can't do it. It's crucial to the matter of 'Skynet', and he can't cause any big trouble. What I need is 'thorn', but I must have a big view of the situation, Tony Stark..."
Tony, who just became Iron Man, did not gain Nick's trust. He instinctively did not believe such a careless guy. After life and death experience in the Middle East, Tony has been transformed, but Nick's impression of him is still in his playboy period and shouted in the media; "I am Iron Man!" It also made Nick question Tony's sense of responsibility.
"He is... absurd, but he can create miracles. He escaped from the hands of terrorists, defeated the Iron King, and brought Stark's industry out of the abyss. If you know him, you will know that although he looks unruly, he is still kind and full of responsibility!" The clerk lady was obviously a fan of Stark, and explained to him in a hurry.
"Tony deserves to be believed, deserves to be entrusted with responsibility..."
"Enough, listen, this is S.H.E.L.D. It's not your Tony Stark fan homepage..." The female clerk's supervisor hurried up to stop her.
Nick closed his mouth with his eyes, "Tony, son of Howard!" Nick reached out and pinched his forehead, "Howard never disappointed me...it was him!"
"Now, give me the list you most cannot accept as Avengers!"
"Bruce Banner, Hulk."
"Johnny Blaze, Ghost Rider."
"Peter Parker, Spider-Man."
"Pepe Potz, or Kelly Johnson, is it a little chili or a cum?"
...
With these shortlists that were obviously more satisfying to him in his hands, Nick sat in the chair with his eyes thinking, "Now, we should find a real leader for them."
"Sir, Antarctic Expedition Ship discovered the Nazi fighter jet frozen in the ice. We have confirmed that it was the one that the Red Skeleton escaped, and found a high concentration of nuclear reaction on it. The Antarctic base searched the inside of the fighter jets, and they found nuclear weapons inside, and this one!"
Nick took the photo and a shield with an American flag pattern buried in the snow and ice.
"The good news is that the captain is still alive! Super Warrior serum keeps him alive in cells, and according to experts' judgment, vital signs can be restored at any time. His body is being sent to San Francisco, sir, has he been transferred to his headquarters in New York?"
"No need. New York is not suitable for important activities now."
Nick gently stroked the shield on the photo with his thumb on his right hand, and he was a little confused: "This is really the best news I have heard in a while! We will have it soon..."
