497 Into the gray fog

"Along the way, Greta asked the adults to take care of her."

At the entrance of Qingyan's village, Carlot sorted out the package on his daughter's shoulders and solemnly asked Sawyer.

“That’s natural.”

Sawyer responded with a smile, then raised his eyebrows to Greta proudly, as if he had won a battle.

If it were in the past, Soya would never have done such a move to a girl who had just met for less than a day. However, perhaps because she came to the new world, Soya, who had lost many constraints, became much more distracted in her temperament. In other words, she would do whatever she wanted.

"Hmph." Greta turned his head, ignored Saoya, and walked to the side of the wall, but found that Saoya had not followed, and couldn't help but look back: "Why don't you leave?"

"I just want to ask, are you sure it's so reliable?"

Sawyer pointed to the wall in front of Greta. Compared with the walls in other locations, this section of the wall is not much different than the walls in other places except for drawing a symbol with blue paint.

At this point, I have to explain the layout of the gray fog stronghold. If it is a large gray fog stronghold with specialties - mainly minerals -, the layout is similar to the towns that Sawyer saw in this world. It has tall city walls and city gates, and the "gray fog channel" as a way to communicate the city. These "large strongholds" mine minerals on weekdays, and then use minerals to exchange the city for various resources - including food and protection power.

Small gray fog strongholds like Qingyan basically have only walls but no city gates. However, the size of the stronghold is larger than the so-called "large strongholds", because the food and livestock required for the survival of the so-called small strongholds are planted and raised within the wall. After all, in the gray fog, there are only a few twisted plants left, and there are no resources available. People in the small strongholds do not need to leave the scope of the wall on weekdays except for a very small number of days every year.

As for those outsiders who occasionally visit strongholds, the wall is not a problem for them. After all, those who can walk in the gray fog are basically masters. It doesn’t take much effort to cross a two or three meters high wall.

"Of course there is no problem. Go out here and walk straight for half an hour to enter the range of a gray fog passage. When you walk along the gray fog passage, you will reach Blue City."

Greta said naturally that not only the travelers who visited Qingyan in the past walked like this, but even the people of Qingyan walked like this every year when they went to Lancheng to attend the ceremony.

"All right."

Sawyer sighed and could only accept this unreliable method. Instead, Greta was still urging: "Come here and help me, I won't go out alone."

"Then how did you come back from Blue City when you were a kid?"

Sawy rolled his eyes, and while complaining, he walked over and leaned under the wall, crossed his hands to signal Greta to step on.

"Of course my dad brought me back when he went to Blue City to attend the ceremony."

Greta still had a tone of course, stepped on Soya's hand, stepped on Soya's shoulder, and climbed up the wall neatly: "Don't ask so much, come up!"

"If you can make it clear, will I have to ask so many questions?"

Sawy rolled his eyes, patted the footprints on his shoulder, and then jumped onto the wall.

Outside the wall is the most common thing in the world - gray fog. The gray fog is blocked by an invisible barrier, surging and rolling outside the barrier. Scattered walks in the gray fog, and strange sounds come from time to time, as if as long as you walk out of this invisible barrier, you will enter a world full of horror and nightmares.

"Oh, why, our master is scared? You are a knight after all, and are you still afraid of mere fog?"

Greta looked at Saoya, who was hesitant and immediately laughed, and then raised an eyebrow like Saoya - she is a good girl and never holds grudges.

"But I no longer remember the incident of entering the gray fog before. For me, it was the first time I entered the gray fog."

Sawyer shrugged and did not care about Greta's provocation, which made Greta a little bored.

"Hmph, then do I want to wait for you to get used to it?"

"No need," Sawyer looked at the surging mist and took a deep breath, "Let's go."

As he said that, Saoya jumped off the wall in depth, Greta also squatted down, put one hand on the wall, and fell down lightly. At this time, Saoya had already reached the border of gray fog.

"Wait for me!"

Greta took two steps to reach Saoya, took out a light ball with a light glowing red light from her pocket and was about to enter the gray fog. On the contrary, Saoya looked at the light ball in Greta's hand with interest: "Is this what you mean by 'fire'?"

The "fire" in Greta's hand looked like a ball with a soft light, but if you look closely, you will see that it is actually a transparent crystal ball, and the light comes from the inside of the crystal ball, a faint, burning flame.

"Hmm," Greta nodded, with a hint of pride in his tone: "And it's a permanent spark!"

"That's for my sake."

Sawyer thought without hesitation that there were only two permanent sparks in the entire Qingyan, so Carloth would not hand over such precious things just because of his daughter.

The so-called "fire", Sawyer had heard Greta say before, that such magical things can "dispel" the gray fog and create a limited safe space. Whether walking in the gray fog or establishing a new gray fog stronghold, they are inseparable from the help of the fire.

Sawyer even speculated that the towers in the ring of the city may actually be a large-sized fire, and the tower is just a name, similar to the various "towers" in the world, and may exist in various forms, such as the peak of the Schetajosga, the brass tower dwarf {mistake}, the green tower mobile tree city, etc.

However, this speculation was denied by Greta. Although she had never seen a tall tower, she also knew that a tall tower is a tower, a real tower, not a "tower" in a symbolic sense.

Sawyer accepted this statement, but did not deny his guess. For him, there were countless mysteries in this world, and all the truths had to be revealed when Sawyer went to Blue City. Perhaps, even if he arrived at Blue City, he could only reveal a small part of the truth. However, there was something in front of him that could allow him to see a glimpse of the truth in the world.

"To prevent the fire from being lost, I'll take it."

Sawy said righteously, and despite Greta's opposition, he took the fire to his hands. Although he couldn't see anything about this thing for a while, it would take at least four or five days from Qingyan to Sapphire Ring City, and he had to pass two other gray fog strongholds in the middle, so he had time to study it.

So Saoya, holding the fire, and Greta, who was squeaking into the range of the gray fog.
