Chapter 405 Letter from the East

Dear Azhisha, since I accepted the order from Sha Zhongsha, escorted my country's mission to the east to the Han Kingdom. It has been a whole year since I left you. Have you been doing well this year? I miss you all the time, miss your beautiful body and hot red lips.

We arrived in Chang'an, the capital of Han State in December last year. Before that, we had traveled more than 5,000 miles across their territory. This is a great country with a long history and a territorial range of our country. What is even more amazing is that I only realized after I came here that the original territory of this Han State was at least three times larger than that of now. Now, this country is fighting two rebels. If the Han State can wipe out the two rebels and restore unity, it will be the most powerful country in the civilized world.

The people here are very different from those in our country. Their skin is about yellow, and their size is generally shorter than their peers in our country. Almost all of them have black hair, dark eyes, small eyes, and short nose.

Although it is very different from us in terms of appearance, it is not very beautiful to me personally. But it has to be said that the people of this country are very hardworking and intelligent. I followed His Majesty Sha Zhongsha to conquer so many tribes and traveled through so many places. I have never seen any place where people can get up from early every day, and then work hard and seriously until the evening. Yes, it is not just one person or a group of people, but people in the entire country. This is really a terrible but extremely respectable country.

It is said that the Han Dynasty effectively controls only one-quarter or even less than the previous heyday. But even so, the abundant resources here really make us feel the prosperity of this land. Their farmers have cultivated a new species called Han beans, which are not picky of places and are extremely productive... They also invented something called soap, which is used to bathe in later generations, which looks particularly refreshing. The aristocratic class among them writes words with something called white paper. This thing is so cheap but very suitable for writing. This leads to the spread of knowledge here much larger than that of our Persia.

It is said that these things were invented by the regent of this country, Guan Guan. Guan was the de facto ruler of this country. His ancestors were the founding generals of this country and had achieved extremely brilliant achievements. However, due to the betrayal of his allies, he quickly fell at the peak of his life. Guan Guan was not born at that time.

His Highness the Regent lost his father when he was a baby, and soon after he became an adult. Later, he started from a small, poor country and gradually became stronger. Finally, in a war launched by the enemy, he turned the tide and saved the country that was about to perish, and took advantage of the situation to gain actual control of the country.

According to the rumors I heard here, the predecessor of this country, Sha Zhongsha and His Highness the Regent's grandfather were sworn brothers. But when I took this rumor to ask the officials of the Han Dynasty, they all denied it without exception. Yes, even in our country, after a person ascended the throne of Sha Zhongsha, there was no affection between the brothers, let alone such sworn brothers?

Because of this reason, a coup occurred in this country a few days ago. The emperor, who was unwilling to lose power, united some ambitious people to attack His Highness the Regent. The Regent easily pacified the coup.

In this coup, I also played a trivial role. On the night when the rebels attacked the Regent, I happened to lead a team of heavy cavalry from our country to be with His Highness the Regent. Under the command of their Marshal Jiang, we accurately found the weakness of the enemy, and then bravely fought out and easily killed the rebel leader. Yes, the leader of this rebel died in my hands.

Because of this, I was personally received by the Grand Marshal and His Highness the Regent.

The Grand Marshal was an old man who was almost seventy years old and had fought all his life. In his early years, he had always used tens of thousands of people to fight against tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of people from those rebellious countries. I have never seen a military commander with such superb military art. After in-depth exchanges with this Grand Marshal, I had a feeling: if the Grand Marshal could come to our Persia and lead our powerful corps to fight Rome, let alone Syria, even Egypt or Armenia, which is farther away, have already taken it down.

The soldiers here like to use various strategies no matter which country fights. In their words, they are pursuing the greatest victory at the lowest price. After hearing this, I think all the commanders of Persia should be hanged: we have fought with Rome for so many years, and we will not talk about the defeated battles. Those battles that have won great victories will not be heavy casualties. In the eyes of Marshal Jiang, such victory is unacceptable.

His Highness Regent is a middle-aged man in his thirties. What surprised me was that he was very familiar with the history of our country and highly praised Ardashir I of our country. Oh, it seems that it only took about a year since our two countries began to interact? He was so busy that he even spent so much time learning the history of our country. While I felt proud, I also felt deeply ashamed. I have made up my mind to spend more time and energy to learn the language and history of this country. I have so much time than His Highness Regent, and there is no reason why I can't learn it well.

Shortly after the battle that night, we followed His Highness Regent back to the capital of Han. What surprised us, the Romans and the Palmyra, was that the punishments received were minimal. Of course, the participants were killed, but most of their families were exiled. And what surprised us the most was that His Highness Regent and his partners did not arrest the emperor who launched the coup. Instead, they were just going to replace the current emperor with the prince.

When I raised this doubt to His Highness the Regent, the Regent told me kindly that on the one hand, he wanted to establish a moderate political struggle environment in this country. On the other hand, he believed that in this era, people are the most precious things. Even sinners can produce enough value as long as they are managed properly. As for His Majesty the Emperor himself, what can he do after losing his only minions?

Thinking of the past actions of this country to cherish soldiers, I was inexplicably moved. Then, when I was so excited, I knelt directly to His Highness Regent to demand allegiance. His Highness also agreed to my allegiance very readily.

Dear Azhisha, according to the promise of the Persian ambassador to us before leaving, we can protect these scholars who lived and studied in the Han Dynasty for five years. But now, I have been named the Marquis of the Regent and in charge of 500 soldiers. The great Regent is a man with great ambition. In my opinion, he will definitely not allow the rebellion of the two Han Dynasty to last for a long time. Therefore, sooner or later, I will follow His Highness to fight eastward. I look forward to making new military achievements on the new battlefield, and thus receive the reward from His Highness and His Highness. Own your own manor and land.

So, dear Azhisha, I may not return to Persia for a long time. Therefore, if you still remember our love, please come to the great man. I promise you that this is a country that is not inferior to Persia and even slightly wins. In this country, we will realize our previous ideals and become the lord of the land. And you are the future lord's wife.

In fact, I was just the first person to be loyal to His Highness the Regent. After me, many soldiers and even Romans in my country, Palmyra, all of them, had all been loyal to His Highness.

In view of this, Your Highness has sent an envoy to inform His Majesty Sha Zhongsha that His Highness is willing to buy the Persian officer who voluntarily joins the Han Dynasty like us. Therefore, I think if you want to leave Persia and come to the Han Dynasty, no one will make things difficult for you.

The sender of the letter is Kurshan, who is the royal merchant of His Highness Regent. If you don’t want to leave Persia, please write a reply to him and ask him to bring it back to me. If you are willing to come to the great man, please follow his caravan to the east with confidence.

I am extremely looking forward to the day I see you in Chang'an.

You are loyal, Hedram Joachim Bergs.
