The wedge, a story in the dark(2/2)
The little girl holding Xiao Meilin turned her head and looked at her mother. She stroked her cousin's head while begging:
"Can't we really take Little Meilin home? I've always wanted a younger brother, please."
"Be good."
Ms. Riley reached out and touched her daughter's hair, and she said to the little girl:
"Mei, I know you like Melin very much, but we can't take him away. Our family doesn't allow another child. I want to go to work and you want to go to school and no one can take care of him. If you really like Melin, I can allow you to come back once a year and see him."
"What should Merlin do?"
The little girl Mei pouted and looked at her mother:
"Are we going to send him to an orphanage?"
"Won't."
Ms. Riley smiled and shook her head. She looked at the time and said to her daughter:
"I have found a new home for Little Merlin. I have contacted James. He is an old friend who grew up with me and Wilton. He is a real gentleman. He is the best friend of Wilton and May. I believe he will be willing to help take care of Little Merlin."
After saying that, Ms. Riley raised her head and saw a red Chevrolet sports car slowly driving into the gate of Riley Manor. She stood up and tidyed up her clothes and black veil on her arms. She said to her daughter:
"Look, they are here."
"May, you have to be polite and call him Uncle Colson, do you understand?"
When the little girl saw a couple with kind faces get out of the car and walk towards the house, she couldn't help but hug the baby in her arms, so she was unwilling to give her only cousin to someone else's house to raise. But what her mother said makes sense, and Little Meilin really can't go back to New York with them.
The little girl Mei looked down at her cousin in her arms. Although she was reluctant to leave, she knew that perhaps the best choice was to keep Merlin at Mr. Colson's house.
She lowered her head and kissed her brother's forehead, and she said:
"Merlin, I will definitely come back to see you often."
