27. The Origin of Aegis [32/100]

“Aliens are real!”
"Gentlemen, ladies, you have witnessed the war several days ago and experienced the fear of destruction. No matter what you think in your heart, at this moment, I think we should make modifications to some of the wrong perceptions and judgments of the past."
"When I saw the threat with my own eyes, I also chose to bind my hands and let the enemy in my position bully and ridicule it. This is not a decision that people with normal thinking should make."
In Alexander Pierce's office, the tough old man was sitting in an office chair and talking, and on several screens in front of him were representatives of the World Security Council.
This is a video conference.
At present, all countries are trying their best to deal with the troubles caused by the previous Kerry war. When people around the world know that aliens do exist and are malicious, it is impossible for the government to hide the truth.
How to maintain the existing order after the unsettling secret is exposed is the biggest problem facing these powers.
"I'm very busy, Pierce."
The female representative from a certain European country rubbed her forehead with a headache before, and she said to Pierce, who was talking about it in a long time:
"I've been really tired these days, so just say what you want to say."
In fact, it was not just her, but the remaining representatives were also tired.
"All right."
Pierce, who hadn't slept for a day and night, picked up the coffee cup at hand and drank a strong coffee. He told the delegates:
"What I mean is that relying on the intelligence organizations under the World Security Council currently have no way to predict and guard against the same thing. In this incident, if Agent Nick Frey had not noticed clues, we would not have prepared in advance."
"I need to remind everyone that when we are at a loss, it is still Agent Nick Frey who has rushed into the stars and eliminated the disaster with the agents of the original Strategic Science Legion."
A ray of light flashed in Pierce's eyes, and he said:
"I decided to rebuild the Strategic Science Legion, which has already reflected its value! I hope to get your support so that I can persuade the stubborn senators in our country to truly transform the rebuilt Strategic Science Legion into an international defense and logistics organization."
Pierce's words made the entire conference room quiet, and after a few seconds, he explained:
"I can understand your concerns. What I want to say is that the rebuilt strategic science regiment will no longer be limited to the North American continent. Its command will be handed over to the World Security Council, that is, this organization will be directly managed by our conference. It will nominally not belong to any country, it will inspect and handle supernatural events around the world."
"Its scope of interference in affairs will not extend to the political level."
"Everyone, the wars of the Kree people, mysterious creatures, flashes on the moon, including the affairs of mutants, and some secret research related to supernatural events that countries are conducting. These are the matters that the rebuilt strategic scientific legion needs to deal with. This is also a dangerous matter that ordinary intelligence organizations cannot handle."
Pierce stopped, and he sincerely told other representatives:
"The era of isolation has passed, and we have seen the threat of stars. In this era, only by concentrating our strength can we accomplish great things. We can no longer fight each other."
“I agree in principle.”
An old man in a suit nodded, and he said in a mature and steady tone:
"But we need to discuss the structure of the organization and its scope of enforcement, and most importantly, about its authority around the world. And the sharing of intelligence with other organizations, things that we can't decide separately."
"Of course I can understand."
Pierce's attitude also became milder, he said:
"This is not a decision that can be made overnight, and we have enough time to discuss these. What I need now is your support, which will allow me to effectively get authorization from Congress. In fact, I prefer that we can use North America to do a pilot first and see the new organization's ability to operate."
"I think it would not be so difficult to make a decision once there is enough evidence to prove that this reconstructed strategic science legion is really useful."
"If that's the case, then I agree."
The representative of Slavs played with the pen in his hand and nodded to Pierce.
"What about you then? Ms. Julia."
Pierce looked at the silent female representative of a European country, who hesitated for a few seconds and nodded:
"Okay, I agree in principle."
"Very good, pass unanimously!"
A heartfelt smile flashed across Pierce's face. He stood up and said to the other four representatives:
"Then, I will start preparing for this matter in the near future and propose this initiative at the regular meeting of the World Security Council in the next moment. Some of the more difficult questions will be left to them. I believe that our Agent Nick Frey and his outstanding agents will definitely give us a satisfactory answer."

"Wow"
A black sedan was parked outside the base deep in the Nevada desert, and behind it, there was a military vehicle.
Merlin, wearing sunglasses and Fury, who was indifferent, opened the car door and walked towards the entrance of the base. Behind them, the members of the operation team affiliated with the Strategic Crisis Intervention and Intelligence Logistics Department also jumped off the military vehicle.
However, as expected, Fury and Merlin were stopped by the soldiers holding weapons at the base gate.
"Nick Fury, Level 6 Agent of the Land Strategic Defense Attack and Logistics Support Bureau!"
Fury shook his ID in front of the soldier, and he said:
"Call your sir! I'll tell him something."
"Hey, Agent, this is the Ministry of Defense military base! We can't let it go without a pass!"
A captain chewing gum and wearing sunglasses said to the two secret agents in front of him with a hint of disgust:
"Col. Hale doesn't like you guys who hide in the shadows all day, and I don't like them either. You can leave now. If you want to enter here, wait until you get your pass."
"No, it's not yours."
Fury took a document from his pocket and threw it to the captain in front of him, and he said:
"This is a document from the Ministry of Defense, let's take a look, Captain, this base is now taken over by us!"
This sentence changed the captain's expression. He lowered his head and looked at the document carefully. The document was indeed stamped with the Pentagon seal, which showed the authenticity of the document.
"Wait here!"
The captain said bluntly, then turned around and walked back to the guard post.
A few minutes later, a black jeep drove out of the base and stopped outside the post.
The car door opened, and a female colonel wearing a gray combat uniform and sunglasses walked out of the car. She reached out to take the documents handed over by the captain, glanced a few times, and then walked to Fury with a gloomy face.
"I am Hale, with the rank of colonel."
She said to Fury:
"It's the supervisor of this base."
"What a coincidence, Ms. Hale."
Fury shrugged:
"I was also a colonel before retiring. But now it is not said that at this time, Lord Hale, please open the post and let my people in. We will give you a week of evacuation, but any confidential information in the base with authority above level 4 cannot be taken away."
Fury also thoughtfully "reminder" to:
"This place was previously Base No. 084 of the Strategic Science Legion, so we know more than you how many items and information files there need to be kept confidential. In order not to cause unnecessary trouble, I hope that the soldiers under your command can better manage their own hands. Never take things that should not be taken."
Colonel Hale's face turned gloomy.
She could easily hear a warning from Fury's words.
But the documents from the Ministry of Defense in her hand were unable to respond to such strong demands.
Colonel Hale knew very well that if possible, the generals of the Ministry of Defense would never return the bases and resources they "taken" from the Strategic Science Legion so easily.
But now, the documents in her hand have proved that the Ministry of Defense must have been under pressure from the higher level, forcing those tough old soldiers to make a step back.
The Strategic Science Legion, which was originally suppressed by several institutions, seemed to have gained the upper hand again. It was like a awakened beast and began to ruthlessly try to regain the things it had lost.
The return of base No. 084 is just the beginning. General Hale can easily recall that in the next time, not only the Ministry of Defense, but also the things that Cia and the National Security Agency took from the Strategic Science Legion will be returned one by one.
Colonel Hale couldn't help but sigh in the Nevada sunlight.
She knew that the secret game between the top leaders had ended and the general situation was over.
"Open the sentry!"
The colonel was also a decisive person, and she waved her hand to let go. As the Ministry of Defense soldiers were angry or relieved, the special forces soldiers in black combat uniforms sat back in military vehicles and drove into base No. 084 in a swagger.
"Ha, the thing has returned to the original owner!"
Fury took Merlin into the warehouse underground of the base, where there were many storage devices fixed to the walls, similar to file cabinets. It contained many dangerous items collected by the Strategic Science Legion from World War II to the present.
Fury took a deep breath in the warehouse. He turned around and took off his eyes. The black eye mask on his left eye was so conspicuous that this thing gave Fury a touch of fierceness in his original temperament.
He inserted his sunglasses into his pocket, then took out a new document from his pocket and handed it to Merlin:
"Give it, your new certificate. We have a new emblem, a new name, a new future, and you should have a new identity."
Merlin took the ID, opened it, and took a look.
The grey eagle emblem on the ID has indeed been changed. Now on the ID, there is a black eagle logo composed of geometric patterns, with a white black edge ring on the background, and on the ring, there is a new organization name.
"strategihelandintervention, enforement and logisticsdivision.(Homeland Strategic Defense Attack and Logistics Support Bureau)"
Merlin read the long list of names, and he looked up at Fury, and he said:
"This is more complicated than the name Kohler gave us. When I tell others where I work, I guess I can't finish it in one breath."
"So you can use the abbreviation."
Fury shrugged:
"l.d.! I call it S.H.I.E.L.D., how about it? Is this a good name?"
"Well, it's really concise and clear."
Merlin nodded. This abbreviation is much better than all previous titles, and it also has a special temperament.
He lowered his head and looked at his ID again.
It was still the serious document photo, and the date of issuance was September 18, 1992. It was two days before Merlin went out to hunt down Natasha with Fury and Patton, and it was also the day when he officially joined the company.
In a flash, two years have passed.
But what puzzled Merlin was that the title on his ID was "Level 5" agent. He looked up at Fury, who said:
"Don't look at me, this is confirmed by Pierce. Kohler made this agent level okay, so we retained this tradition. Pierce thinks that the contribution you made in this incident is enough, and with the affirmation of Gatler and Victoria, I also need some people who can truly trust."
"So, you are now a Level 5 Agent, the same level as Natasha and Patton."
"Although I don't think these names make any sense."
Merlin put away his ID and said to Fury:
"But Level 5 agent sounds pretty impressive, so thank you."
"Don't rush to thank me."
Fury sat in a box, his left hand in his pocket, his right hand tapped, and he said to Merlin:
"Korel has left the job, but he has left a lot of messes, and it takes me a lot of time to get S.H.E.L.D. on the right track. During this period, in addition to getting back what we lost, there are some very important things that I will deliver to you, Natasha and Patton to do."
“What mission?”
Merlin asked calmly:
"Tell me."
"Before leaving, Kohler gave us a lot of confidential information about other organizations he knew."
Fury whispered:
"Pearce also took advantage of this victory to reach some agreements with several other organizations. Many secret projects were transferred to the World Security Council for management. As a special force specializing in handling various strange events, S.H.E.D. needs to evaluate those projects and regulate them if necessary."
"This is the power given to us by the World Security Council and our new obligation."
"And you, Merlin, you are now the ace agent in my hands to deal with those paranormal phenomena. So for the next period of time, you'll be very busy."
Fury said:
“There are several projects that require you to perform a safety level assessment, and I will send some professionals to go with you.”
"Well, let me see the first project"
"Yes, this!"
Fury took out a document marked with the National Security Agency's emblem from the suitcase he carried with him and handed it to Merlin, who took it in his hand, and on the cover of the old-looking document, there was a big logo.
It was like a trace of a beast's claws.
Merlin read the name of the project.
