36. A letter

In the ward of St. Mungo Magic Injury Hospital, Gatler, who was lying on the hospital bed, looked melancholy, as if he had recalled some unbearable past events.
Merlin sat beside the bed, looking at Gatler, but didn't know how to comfort him.
Every agent keeps many secrets in his heart, which may be painful or regretful, but in the final analysis, secrets are secrets. It is an extremely rude behavior for others to blindly explore those secrets.
"Inside SHIELD"
A few minutes later, Gatler hesitated, and he looked at Merlin and lowered his voice:
"I don't know if you notice it, but as our organization grows bigger, it's no longer as pure as it used to be."
"Are you reminding me? Gatler."
Merlin looked around and said to his friends:
"Don't worry, I know."
"Um?"
Gatler looked at Merlin with suspicion, and the latter shrugged and said to Gatler:
"I was reminded before you. I will pay attention."
“Just paying attention is not enough.”
Gatler said:
"You have to be careful, Merlin. You have been too popular in recent years and it is easy to attract attention. The threat on the surface is obvious, but the disturbance from the darkness is not so easy to detect."
"What did you notice? Gatler."
Merlin looked at Gatler's solemn expression and asked:
"Or have you found some evidence?"
"I am also the head of the European branch of SHIELD. If I can't even notice this, I'm too dereliction of duty."
Gatler said to Merlin:
"But I just noticed that I couldn't find any evidence. I just knew that there was an undercurrent flowing in the shadow of SHIELD, and maybe you were already targeted."
"Do you think Fury know?"
Merlin hesitated for a moment and asked softly:
"Do you think Fury is trustworthy?"
"Fry is a very good leader, he is also a trustworthy person. He is very sensitive and always plans for everything in advance."
Gatler looked at Merlin and said:
"He is not omniscient and omnipotent, either."
"Then do you think we should talk to Fury about this?"
Merlin asked again, Gatler shook his head and said:
"He's a man who is stubborn in certain things, and he wouldn't believe it without evidence."
"It's evidence."
Merlin rubbed her forehead, and a moment later, the therapist at St. Mungo Hospital informed Gatler to prepare for today's treatment, and Merlin said goodbye. Before leaving, Merlin said to Gatler:
"Don't worry, take a good rest, I will find that evidence."
"Be careful of everything!"
Gatler reminded:
"Don't fight with them, use your brain and solve problems with your wisdom."
"Yeah, I know."
After saying that, Merlin left the ward and hurried back to where he lived. Watching Merlin leave, more than ten minutes later, when the therapists were ready, Gatler was pushed into the treatment room full of magic marks. Before the treatment began, Gatler put down his cell phone.
On the screen of the phone, there is a sign that the email has been sent.
The content of the email is very simple, with only four words.
"He noticed it."

When Merlin returned to the hotel where he stayed, he pushed open the door and saw a white envelope placed under his feet.
This thing must have been stuffed in through the gap in the door.
Merlin looked around and saw that there was no one in the aisle of the hotel. He first used dark perception to sense it, and after confirming that the envelope was just ordinary letter paper, he picked up the mysterious envelope, closed the door, and came to the desk.
Merlin looked over and over the unsigned envelope, and the letter did not even have a stamp.
He shook his head, took out the envelope, and took out one of the thick stacks of paper.
At the top was a letter full of words, and the file below was spread out on the table. Merlin discovered that it was a precise mechanical drawing. But with his engineering level, he could not understand what the creation of this drawing represented.
He could only look at the letter, and he guessed that there should be an answer on it.
When Meilin opened the folded letter paper, what caught his eye was some beautiful fonts like women's notes. He knew this font and was very familiar with it.
This is the handwriting of Ms. Carter, who has been missing for several months.
“Merlin:”
"I'm sorry I left without saying goodbye. I know that you have many questions to answer in your mind, but now is not the time to answer."
"I contacted Hank, who was as cynical and bad-tempered as before. But at my request, he gave this drawing to solve the trouble he left behind. According to him, this is a drawing of a miniature, semi-finished quantum interferometer. You give it to Dr. Bill Foster, who is perfectly capable of making such a sample."
"It can help the poor girl Ava maintain her own quantum state activity. But Hank also reminded me that this interferometer can only prevent the child's body from decomposing itself, but cannot heal her. To make Ava completely heal, you need to find a way to the quantum world. Hank has been studying this topic over the years, but unfortunately, a smart person like him has not found the right way at present."
"You need to take good care of that child and don't let her use the ability of quantum states frequently. Hank told me that as she grows older, her connection with the quantum world will become deeper and deeper until one day, she will be attracted by the call of the quantum world and completely disappear in the real world, but that will happen at least 10 years later."
"I wrote Hank's contact information inside the envelope, but I ask you, Merlin, not to tell Hank's whereabouts to others."
"Remember what Old Steve reminded you? S.H.I.E.D. is getting bigger and bigger. In a slightly blind expansion, the turbid water will also enter the clear bay. I believe that giving Fury enough time, he has the ability to make the huge pool clear again, but I doubt that the lurking darkness will not give him enough time."
"Take good care of Sharon and Merlin for me, don't come and find me. I have devoted most of my life to my work. It's time to let a poor old woman live freely and happily in the last part of her life."
"Finally, Old Steve asked me to tell you that if you have time, you might as well take a walk around Blick Street in Manhattan, where the scenery and food are pretty good."
Ms. Carter's short but mysterious letter ends here.
But Merlin couldn't relax her brows. He looked at the stack of stacked drawings at hand. He knew that it was Ms. Carter who fulfilled her promise and found the mysterious Pim Hank for Merlin, and asked Dr. Hank to design and create an interferometer for Ava to suppress quantum states.
But that's not the point.
The point is that Ms. Carter confirmed the old Steve’s warning to Merlin. As the leader of the Strategic Science Legion, if she also believes that there is a dark shadow in SHIELD at present, it means that the problems within her organization are probably more serious than Merlin imagined.
And as Ms. Carter means, Fury seems to know this, and Fury has been working hard to keep the pool water of SHIELD clear.
But Fury didn't tell him or let him participate, which shows that Fury didn't need his help, and at least for now, Fury didn't want Merlin to participate.
Perhaps, the old agent was also suspicious of Merlin.
“It’s really hard to like.”
Merlin curled his lips, and a flame tangled with smoke ignited in his hand to burn the letter. Then he opened the envelope, and inside it, there was an invisible phone number.
That should be Pim Hank's contact information.
Merlin placed this number on his mobile phone, and he did not dial the number immediately.
Because he didn't know what to say to Dr. Hank, the other party seemed to have a bad temper, and he had already given the help Merlin needed.
Merlin put the stack of drawings in his handbag. He looked out the window. It was afternoon and dusk had not yet arrived, but the scorching and bright sunshine at noon had become darker.
"Oh, this trip is about to end early again."
Merlin sighed. He did not stop in the hotel anymore, but cleaned up and left the room.
Since he has been determined to return to New York soon, he needs to hurry up and buy the magic materials he needs in Diagon Alley. But considering that the place has not yet restored to normal business order, Merlin's needs are unlikely to be met at one time.
Two days later, a black plane rushed into the sky from the airport in Paris. This is a postal plane inside S.H.E.L.D., which is specially used to fly between North America and Europe, transporting some information and resources inside S.H.E.L.D.
This is not a business plane, so the interior is not comfortable. On the upper floor of the cabin, there is a small room for pilots to rest, where Merlin is sitting at this time.
Opposite him, there is a newly dressed house elf Dobi.
Or, it is Dobby, a new consultant to Merlin's department, SL.D.
The guy changed into a new outfit as Merlin asked. Mrs. Mojin is a skilled magic tailor. The black uniform she made was wearing on Dobby and a pair of small leather shoes like a work of art.
But this handsome and serious uniform that should have been worn was loose because of Dubi's thin body, and there was no majesty at all.
Dobi also got a pair of psychic sunglasses that were often provided by agents of sl.d. The same reduced version of the toad mirror was placed on the bridge of Dobi's sharp nose. But the small toad mirror could not cover Dobi's big eyes at all, so this outfit made Dobi look full of a strange style, just like the short and funny villain that often appears in children's comics.
But for a magic race who is born ugly, what else can Merlin expect? Dobby can honestly put on his uniform, which is the most positive change he can make so far.
According to the living habits of house elves, they will not wear such formal clothes, and it is inconvenient to work in such clothes.
Merlin also noticed that there was a black magic wand like a fire stick around the waist of the elf agent.
The thing looked like an ordinary stick, but there was indeed magical fluctuation on it.
"Mr. Ollivander is too perfunctory."
Merlin looked at the wand hanging around Dobby's waist and frowned and said:
"Is this thing not even the later polishing and carving, so it can be used normally?"
"Of course! Sir."
Dobby stroked the wand around her waist, and said to Merlin in a sharp but stuttering voice:
"This was made for me by Master Ollivand on the spot. Because of the urgent time, he did not add too much modification, but the wand should have the functions."
"That's good."
Merlin didn't pay much attention to these details, he told Dobby:
"The Secret Agent Academy course will start in September, and I did not say hello to the instructors there, but I believe that relying on your ability, it should not be a problem to complete six months of agent training without being discovered."
"I will do it, sir."
Dobi tried hard to lift his chest and said to his new boss:
“It’s not hard to pretend to be yourself in front of the Muggles.”
"Well, that's good."
Merlin took out his cell phone, took a look, and found that he had a new text message, sent by Dr. Franklin Hall of the Secretariat Academy. The text message was very concise, with only one line of words:
"My experiment finally succeeded!!! Merlin, come to the laboratory and help me with the application experiment!"
"Okay, that's a coincidence."
If it weren't for Dr. Hall's text message, Merlin probably would have forgotten that when he left the Secret Service, he promised Dr. Hall that he would help him conduct a special experiment.
God is here, but that happened 6 years ago.
What exactly did Dr. Hall's experiment study? It took 6 years to complete it.
This also made Merlin a little curious. He glanced at Dobby, who was studying the plane seat. He put away his phone and said to the ugly mysterious affairs consultant in front of him:
Chapter completed!
