12. Western Reporter Clark (Part 1)(1/2)
"I finally know why you guys who have come into contact with him don't like him anymore."
After Hank Pim's projection dissipated, Merlin walked to the depressed, nearly autistic Dr. Foster, and patted the doctor on the shoulder, saying in an understanding tone:
"As you said, this is such a bastard who can't like."
"But you also saw his amazing wisdom."
Foster Pers was sitting on a chair and writing and drawing on a pair of drawings. He said to Merlin without raising his head:
"Hank is such a person. He is very arrogant, cold, unkind, and has a terrifying desire to control himself... The problem is that he has the capital to do this, his wisdom, Merlin, there are always some people in this world who cannot compare with us. No matter how hard you work... you can't catch up with him. That feeling is really unpleasant."
"He gave us a plan, although I didn't understand."
Merlin looked at the drawings at Dr. Foster's hand and asked:
"Did you confirm that this plan works?"
"Um."
Dr. Foster nodded, and he said to Merlin with some confusion:
"Pim's ridicule is right, and I did ignore a lot. When you first handed me the drawings of the quantum restraint, I knew that the restraint could strengthen the inhibitory force of quantum activities through the superposition of quantity, but that thing would also oppress Ava's spirit. If she wears more than three restraints, it would bring her a terrible burden."
"However, I overlooked another application of this restraint."
The doctor pointed to the drawings he had just drawn and said to Merlin:
"What Ava needs is not a wearable restraint, she needs a set of clothes that can shield quantum activities, a closed restraint field that can suppress the ever-intensified quantum energy in her body."
"Oh, a combat uniform?"
Meilin looked at the weird armor that had just been drawn and completely enclosed on the drawings. He rubbed his chin and said:
"It's like a movable restraint?"
"No, it's completely different in principle."
Dr. Foster looked up at the hive-like restraint in front of him, and said:
"But there is no problem with you describing this way...Ava can maintain her body integrity as long as she wears this combat uniform loaded with several restraints. After training, she can even manipulate the quantum energy in her body, which can greatly reduce her pain and allow her to move freely outside."
"But she can't take it off unless she returns to this restraint warehouse."
The doctor said with some regret:
"You also heard what Pim said. Although he has a bad temper, he usually doesn't lie. He said he can't solve Ava's problem, which is probably true."
"In other words, my poor Ava will only be able to walk around in this combat uniform that is the same as the future warrior?"
Merlin breathed a sigh of relief, and he looked at Ava in the restraint warehouse, his eyes full of pity.
But soon, he thought of another thing, and he said to Dr. Foster:
"Hank Pim just now told us that he said that as long as his experiment goes further, he will be able to heal Ava... Do you think this is a lie, or?"
"It should be true."
While continuing to improve the design drawings, Dr. Foster said to Merlin:
"Although I don't know exactly what Pim has been doing over the years, I can probably guess that he is probably studying a method that can allow him to enter the quantum world, which is theoretically impossible. But you and I know that theory can only restrain ordinary people. For geniuses like Pim, general cognition can be broken at any time."
"Once Pim really finds a way to safely enter and exit the quantum world, it means that he can collect free energy from the quantum world, the energy that only exists in that microscopic world, can be used to repair and stabilize Ava's body."
The doctor said as much as possible in a way Merlin could understand:
"The energy of those quantum worlds is relatively stable in that world. We only need to inject those energy into Ava's body to make the disordered atoms in her body reach a relatively stable state..."
"Of course, this stability will also enter into confusion again over time, but if Pim really finds a way to enter the quantum world, it means that we can replenish Ava's energy at any time."
The doctor said:
"That means that Ava will return to the normal world, and she can enjoy her life freely like other girls... or even get married and have children."
"It sounds pretty good."
Merlin rubbed his forehead and said:
"Then we can only expect that the irritable brother's experiment will make progress in the near future."
“It’s not that easy, Merlin.”
Dr. Foster sighed:
"Pim probably has spent more than ten years perfecting the experiment, which means that the experiment encountered much greater difficulties than we imagined. Unless we encounter a breakthrough point, it will be difficult for a genius like Pim to achieve a breakthrough in the short term."
"But you are right. Apart from waiting, our poor wisdom can't do much."
"It seems that he really sprayed your shadow."
Merlin patted Dr. Foster on the shoulder and said:
"Don't listen to him nonsense, you are also very smart, Bill, at least in my opinion, you are already the most intelligent group of people in the world."
"Well."
Dr. Foster touched his bald head, and he looked at Merlin and said:
"I always think you have something in your words... But Merlin, it's not enough to be smart. People like Pim, or Reed, Stark, you can't describe them as smart, and that seems to them like humiliation."
The doctor sighed and said to Merlin:
"I will design this combat uniform for Ava during the next period of time. If it goes well, she will be able to move freely outside in half a month."
"Give it a name."
Merlin looked at the drawings in the doctor's hand, rubbed his chin and said softly:
"Just call it 'ghost', this name is very good at Ava's ability, isn't it?"
"really."
Dr. Foster nodded, and he said:
"You can travel through most solids, be immune to any physical attack, be able to freely switch forms between virtual and real, and truly realize hiddenness in various senses. This is indeed too similar to the ghosts in mythological stories."
"Your Excellency Merlin, you have new communications."
A sudden reminder interrupted Merlin and Dr. Foster's chat, and in the lens in front of him, a communication message from Kansas made Merlin unable to help but blink.
He turned his head and said to Dr. Foster:
"Doctor, I have something to deal with, so I'll leave first."
"Also, after Ava woke up, she called me. This child hadn't had dinner with the children at home for a long time, and the children missed her very much."
"Well, go, Merlin."
A few seconds later, Merlin came to the rooftop of Pagasos base. He stood beside the rooftop, looking at the vast desert scene in front of him, and then Icarus dialed the phone number just now.
"Clark, you haven't contacted me for almost a year... I suddenly called, was it to wish me a happy Christmas?"
"Uh, you can think so."
On the other end of the phone, Clark's voice rang, he said:
"After all, Christmas is coming, but I have another thing to tell you."
"Tell me, it's awkward."
Merlin said:
"We are friends, so friends need to help each other."
"Uh, that's it. I want to ask you to help me find a job... It's better to stay away from home. Forget it, come here. It's a bit complicated. I'll tell you in person."

A few minutes later, on the hillside not far from Kent Farm, Merlin walked out of the light of the Spell, and saw Clark sitting on the hillside, drinking beer melancholy.
The guy was wearing a somewhat old jeans and a shabby straw hat. The shepherd he raised was lying beside him. Each person and a dog looked very leisurely in the winter sun.
"I thought you were going to work on your own farm for the rest of your life."
Merlin walked forward, pulled out a portable chair from her pocket, and sat next to Clark, saying:
"What happened that made you want to leave the farm and go out for a walk."
"My mom, force me to get married..."
Clark looked into the distance and said with a melancholy look on his face:
"She and my dad have been looking for a girlfriend for me recently. Yesterday, the family went to a small town restaurant for dinner. After I got there, I saw another family sitting by the table. They are friends of their parents. This is not the point. The point is that their daughter is also there... The meal made me feel uncomfortable."
"I thought Old Kent and Martha would respect your choice."
Merlin kept laughing and said to Clark seriously:
"They will just let you run around the world like other parents, just like you, no matter how big your life is, but now it seems that they are quite traditional and will worry about marriage issues for their uneasy sons."
“But I don’t need it!”
Clark was a little annoyed and pinched the can in his hand into a piece of discus, he said:
"You know my problem. I can't fall in love casually, let alone get married casually."
To be continued...
