Chapter 27 Lighthouse

There is an abandoned well not far from the lantern tower, with tall grass growing around it. It must have been unused for a long time.

Yunji walked to the edge of the well and took a look. There was a decaying smell at the mouth of the well, and the bottom was full of mud, with not much water left.

Leaving the blacksmith and his son to wait aside, Yunji walked into the lamphouse alone.

As soon as he came in, he immediately felt a cold wind blowing from his head. If ordinary people had to shiver, Yunji would not take it seriously.

Looking up at the darkness at the top of the lamp tower, Yunji turned his gaze to the ground, searched carefully, and finally found a piece of brick stained with oil stains in an inconspicuous place.

This green brick was completely soaked in oil, but the color had not changed much. It would be difficult to find any clues without looking closely.

When I got closer and smelled it, there was a very light aroma exuding from the bricks. It was different from the fragrance of flowers. The aroma was mixed with an imperceptible fishy smell.

"It's indeed shark oil."

Yunji muttered something, stepped on the spiral staircase, and climbed up.

The spiral staircase is not strong and has long been rotted in some places. It will make a creaking sound and drop sawdust when you step on it.

It's a hundred feet high and it's a spiral staircase. You can't walk up it in a short while. You're not in a hurry, so you can walk as easily and comfortably as if you were strolling in a courtyard.

Less than half an hour later, Yunji stepped into the attic at the top of the lamp building.

The attic was dark and gloomy, with a square stone platform built in the middle. There was originally an iron cup the size of a frying spoon placed on the platform, but because the iron cup was knocked over by a cow many years ago, it was now upside down.

On the edge of the iron lamp, a drop of fish oil-like substance is condensing, like solidified pine oil.

The attic was very cold. I wonder if it was because of the high altitude. It was eerie and chilly. Especially the iron lamp that was upside down on the stone platform looked like an iron cage. There was something ominous inside, making people unconsciously want to stay away.

Glancing at the iron lamp casually, Yunji began to look at the attic.

Knock on the bluestone, it is solid, no wonder it can stand for hundreds of years without falling down.

Looking down, the blacksmith and his son under the tower looked like ants. The outer wall of the lantern tower was straight up and down, and every piece of bluestone was tightly connected. This kind of craftsmanship was definitely not something that anyone could build. The hundred-foot-tall tower would have collapsed if there were even the slightest mistake.

Having stood for hundreds of years, it can be seen that this seemingly ordinary lantern tower must have been built by practitioners.

"The lights have been extinguished for nearly a hundred years..."

Yunji murmured the news given by the old blacksmith. Who was the lighthouse from a hundred years ago guiding the way?

Looking at the sea where a faint outline could be seen in the distance, Yunji fell into deep thought.

He is deeply aware of the dangers of the sea.

Ordinary fishermen would never go too far out to sea, and even large merchants and even royal families who owned huge ships would not dare to sail their ships into the deep sea easily.

There are not only unpredictable storms and evil waves in the deep sea, but also countless terrifying underwater monsters. Those who dare to cross the sea are all monks with advanced cultivation.

From this point of view, the purpose of the lighthouse in Denglou Town should be to guide the navigation practitioners.

"Visitor from outside the territory?"

Yunji took out half of the sea chart, which was as thin as a cicada's wings, and faced the sea level in the distance. Through the chart, he could see the setting sun setting in the west.

There are rumors in the world of cultivation that a hundred years ago, a strong man from outside the region crossed the sea and came eastward, bringing with him a ship full of rare treasures...

Could it be that the treasure ship followed this lantern tower...

Who is the person who drew the treasure map?

Yunji never believed in so-called treasure maps. If there really was a treasure, then why didn't the person who drew the treasure map take the treasure away? There must be other reasons behind such a unnecessary and thankless act as leaving the map behind.

It may be that the treasure was not taken away once, and a map was drawn to record the route for next time. It is more likely that it was a trap to lure others into it.

"It's a pity to keep it useless and throw it away. It's better to sell it. Who can want this thing? You have to find someone to take advantage of it."

As he spoke, he thought of that proud brother, Yunji raised the corners of his mouth and smiled innocently.

Leaning on the railing and looking into the distance, the clouds are leisurely looking at the scenery, waiting for the sunset to set over the western mountains.

As the sunlight dimmed, the attic behind him seemed to grow colder and colder. The cold wind blew through, and tiny whispers seemed to echo in the darkness.

At dusk, the last ray of sunlight is about to disappear on the sea, but a little light is reflected on the top of the attic.

The light came from a blue brick on the top, which only flickered a few times before losing its brightness.

If Yunji hadn't stayed in the lantern tower all the time, it would have been difficult for him to notice the light reflected by the setting sun.

The top of the attic was not high and could be reached by standing on tiptoe. Yunji wiped the blue brick with his hand and found that the brick had a rounded feel, not like stone but more like jade.

"Jade in stone?"

Out of curiosity, Yun Ji brought the zhenqi to his fingertips and raised his hand to brush it away again.

The true energy formed air waves, scraping away the thick moss on the surface of the blue brick, revealing a completely different color. It was indeed a jade in stone.

The jade is white jade, which is ordinary and ordinary, and is integrated into the blue bricks by special means.

"The white jade in the lantern tower...what does it mean? Could it be related to the person who built the lantern tower?"

It must be a mark and has no other purpose. Yunji couldn't guess the true meaning of the jade in the stone for a while, so he gave up after looking at the jade.

It is just an ordinary piece of white jade, worthless, and it is easy to cut it out. However, if a brick is missing from the lantern tower, it may not be able to stand for long. Even though it is an inconspicuous brick, it is already integrated with the lantern tower. If it loses even the slightest balance, it will easily collapse.

.

It was getting dark.

There was no light in the dark attic, making it even more eerie.

The night wind was getting colder, and Yunji was still looking out of the building, looking at the night scenery despite his clothes.

The cold breath was like small snakes emerging from the upturned iron lamp, and it spread throughout the attic like dense threads, just like hair. Although it had no entity, it was eerie.

"Refining shark into oil and burning the everlasting fire, the people who built this lantern tower are really cruel."

Yunji slowly turned around, faced the strange threads in the room, sighed, and said: "Packed in dragon gauze, hanging in jade pendants, with human heads and fish bodies, I have seen sharks before. They are carefree and like to swim.

deep sea."

The thin threads stopped and spread in front of Yunji, and the attic was filled with a lifeless chill.

Not long after, the hair-like thread retracted into the iron cup, and a black shadow crawled out from the upside-down iron cup.

The black shadow has the outline of a human body, and its legs are in the shape of fish tails. It floats in the air. It has no eyes or facial features. It is like a shadow. It does not speak and hangs silently opposite the cloud pole.

At the same time as the black shadow appeared, the cold air in the attic reached its extreme, the wind howled, and the ghostly shadow was faint.

It turns out that the lamp oil in the lamphouse was refined from shark oil. The remaining shark oil was knocked over by Niu Da, dripped under the tower, invaded the bluestone and melted into the underground well water, until it flowed into the small lake.

It was because the fish in the lake were contaminated with shark oil that they gradually mutated into fish monsters and caused chaos in Denglou Town.

Ever since Niu Da told his childhood naughty experience, Yunji had guessed the origin of the fish monster. After entering the tower, he saw the oil stains on the ground and was more certain that it was caused by shark oil. He waited in the attic high up for the purpose.

Put an end to this disaster once and for all.
