Chapter 111 New Reconnaissance Team

Since Christopher left with the reconnaissance team, Sokov has asked the radio operator more than a dozen times every day if he had received the reconnaissance team's return. But regrettably, the radio operator shook his head every time and said, "No, Comrade Battalion Commander, we can never contact the reconnaissance team."
Three days after losing contact, Sokov became worried about the fate of Christopher's team. He was afraid that something unexpected happened when they were reconnaissance behind enemy lines, so he deliberately discussed with Belkin whether to send a new reconnaissance team to go deep into the enemy lines for reconnaissance.
Berkin didn't have long been the deputy battalion commander, but he was very familiar with the commanders and fighters in the battalion. When he heard Sokov planned to arrange new personnel to go to the enemy's back to perform reconnaissance missions, he immediately took the initiative to propose: "Comrade Battalion Commander, I think Sergeant Grissa, the first platoon commander of the Second Company, is very capable. Why don't we send him to lead the team and reorganize a new reconnaissance team to perform reconnaissance missions behind enemy lines?"
"Yes, he is a good candidate." Sokov knew Grissa as early as in Shimki town and naturally knew his abilities. When he heard Belkin's recommendation, he immediately agreed without hesitation. He picked up the phone and called the second company commander Andre, and said straight to the point: "Is the second company commander? I am Sokov. Let the first row commander Grissa come to me immediately."
When Andrei heard that Sokov was thinking about Grissa, he was a little surprised and asked, "Comrade Battalion Commander, do you know what you have to do with him?"
"Comrade lieutenant, don't inquire about things you shouldn't know." Sokov said impatiently when he heard Andrei ask on the phone: "Import Grissa immediately and let him come to me immediately."
Grissa appeared in the battalion command post more than ten minutes later. After saluting Sokov and Belkin, he said loudly: "Comrade Battalion Commander, Sergeant Grissa, the commander of the 2nd Company, was ordered to come. I will listen to your orders, please instruct!"
"Please sit down, Sergeant Grissa." Sokov raised his hand and returned a greeting, pointed to the empty seat at the table, and said, "I call you here. There is an important task to hand it over to you to complete."
After sitting down at the table, Grissa asked, "Comrade Battalion Commander, don't know what the mission is?"
Sokov pushed the map on the table to Grissa, then used a pencil without the tip to draw a circle on the table, saying, "Comrade Sergeant, look, this is the nameless highland where our camp is located. To the south of us, there are a large number of German troops stationed. In order to find out their deployment, a few days ago, I sent Christopher to take a reconnaissance team to this area for reconnaissance. But unfortunately, a few days later, we were unable to contact them..."
Grissa judged from Sokov's words that he was planning to send himself to continue to carry out this reconnaissance mission, so he stood up and said, "Comrade Battalion Commander, I wonder how many people do you plan to give me?"
"The number of people in the reconnaissance team cannot be too large, otherwise it will be exposed." Sokov had an answer in his heart for Grissa's question, and he immediately replied: "I will give you five more people except you." After saying this, he found a hint of disappointment flashing in Grissa's eyes, and added: "You can choose the personnel participating in the reconnaissance from the entire battalion. As long as you think it is suitable, you can be included in the reconnaissance team."
After receiving Sokov's promise, Grissa smiled on his face. He asked, "Comrade Battalion Commander, I wonder if you can arrange a radio operator for us, so that we can report the reconnaissance to the battalion in a timely manner."
As soon as Grissa finished speaking, he smiled and said, "Don't worry, Comrade Sergeant, the radio operator has arranged for you. Time is tight, so you can choose the other four members immediately and try to set out before dark."
Grissa's movements were very fast. Just after noon, his reconnaissance team was formed. Sokov met the four soldiers selected by Grissa in the traffic trench outside the command post: Varian from the first company, who was a forest watcher before joining the army. In addition to his good shooting skills, he was also very familiar with the forest; Yegor from the second company, was a soldier with rich combat experience. Since Shimki, he has been following Sokov in the south and north; Xie Miao from the third company, was once a hunter with very good shooting skills. In the battle to capture the nameless highlands, one of the sharpshooters they covered the attack, and he personally killed five German soldiers; the last soldier was Yakov from the machine gun company, who was a machine gunner.
After reading the soldiers selected by Grissa, Sokov nodded with satisfaction and said to Grissa with a smile: "Comrade Sergeant, the soldiers you have selected are very good. I believe you will definitely be able to complete the mission and come back."
Grissa glanced at the tail of the team and saw that Zamiatin, the radio operator sent by the battalion department, was already standing there. He looked at Sokov and asked: "Comrade Battalion Commander, the reconnaissance team is ready to set off. Are we allowed to set off?"
"Of course," Sokov reached out to Grissa, shook him, and said to him in a friendly tone: "Comrade Sergeant, I wish you good luck!"
After Grissa raised his hand to salute Sokov and Belkin, he began to issue orders to the reconnaissance team: "Everyone has it! Listen to my command, stand at attention! Turn right and start!"
Watching the reconnaissance team go away, Belkin asked Sokov: "Comrade Battalion Commander, do you think they can succeed?"
"It goes without saying that it will definitely succeed." Sokov looked at the reconnaissance team in the distance. Although he was worried that they would be as uninformed as Christopher's team, in order not to attack Belkin's confidence, he still said with a tough bullet: "Before the start of the big counterattack, I met Sergeant Grissa. He is very capable. I believe that he will not let our trust down and will be able to complete the reconnaissance mission successfully."
"A few days ago, we not only repelled the attacking enemy, but also captured five artillery pieces; but also shot down one of their reconnaissance planes." Belkin frowned and said, "According to the Germans' character of not suffering losses, we will definitely retaliate. But now four or five days have passed, but the enemy has no movement at all. It's so strange. I'm worried that they must have any conspiracy."
