Chapter 171 The Fight

Although Sokov was the first to charge, many soldiers still surpassed him during the charge, rushed to the church first, kicked open the crumbling gate, and rushed in with guns.
From the church gate to the prayer hall, there is a corridor two meters wide and fifteen meters long. When the German officers and soldiers guarding the hall saw the Soviet army breaking into the door, they immediately shot. In the dense rain of bullets, the soldiers squeezed into the corridor fell down, and the soldiers behind continued to rush into the inside, stepping on their dead or injured comrades who fell to the ground.
The brave soldiers rushed into the prayer hall in the rain of bullets, rushed towards the German army hiding behind pillars or rubble, and fired against them or started hand-to-hand combat with them. The officers and soldiers howled and fought fiercely with each other. Neither side had any fancy stands, either side had any fancy stands, bayonets, butt stocks, fists, and teeth, and they were all used to kill each other.
As Sokov arrived with a large group of troops, the situation in the church was tilted towards the side that was favorable to the Soviet army. The German army, who had no eyes, rushed towards Sokov with a bright bayonet, but was either knocked down by Sokov directly or stabbed to death by the guard squad soldiers who protected him.
After the battle, Sokov inspected the hall and found that the German officers and soldiers lying on the ground had the highest rank of only a captain. Seeing this, he couldn't help but frown slightly and said to himself: "Is the information wrong? The German command is not here?" But he thought again, there was a car that was blown up by artillery fire outside the church and two tricycles. If it were just a company-level command, it should not be qualified to equip these vehicles.
At this moment, several gunshots suddenly came from the location of the altar, and then a soldier shouted loudly: "There are people in the basement!" As soon as his shout fell, several gunshots came.
When Sokov heard the gunshots and the shouts of the soldiers, he didn't even bother to think about it. He shouted at Oleg and several guard soldiers standing beside him, "Come with me!" and took the lead in rushing to the altar.
Sokov came to the altar and saw an entrance to the basement here. Next to the square hole, two soldiers were lying. It seemed that the soldiers discovered the entrance to the basement and planned to go down to find out the truth, but the German soldiers hiding inside fired a cold gun.
Seeing this, Oleg was about to rush forward with his gun, but Sokov grabbed it: "Wait a minute, Oleg." He looked at the dark hole and continued, "Maybe there are seven or eight guns below facing the entrance. If you rush in like this, you will only end up with death."
Oleg stopped and asked anxiously: "Comrade Battalion Commander, what should we do?"
Sokov took off his backpack, took out two grenades from it, pulled the string, and threw them directly into the hole. He first heard the sound of the grenade rolling down the stairs, and after a moment, two dull explosions came. When black smoke came out of the hole, there were still screams inside. It was probably that the German soldiers hiding near the hole were ready to fire a cold gun were attacked.
Seeing that Sokov's method was good, Oleg took out the grenade from his backpack, pulled the string and threw it into the hole. The soldiers around him also took out the grenades, imitating Sokov and Oleg, and threw it into the hole.
After countless grenades were thrown into the hole, a series of explosions soon came out, which made the ground under his feet tremble slightly. Sokov was afraid that too many grenades would be thrown down, so he quickly stopped the warriors who were about to continue throwing the grenades: "Stop, everyone stop, stop throwing them!"
Oleg asked curiously: "Comrade Battalion Commander, why don't you throw grenades?"
"If you throw it again, it will blow the ground down. I don't want to fall down and let the Germans bury you with." Sokov ordered the stop throwing grenades, and he thought that the German command must have been transferred to the basement because the roof of the church was destroyed by artillery fire. If the enemy's command could be captured, it would be a great achievement.
"If the German army hid near the entrance of the cave and fired cold guns, we still couldn't rush in." Oleg stared at the entrance of the cave and said with some embarrassment: "What should we do?"
"Oleg, go and find the commander of the 33rd Guards Regiment. I remember there were several flamethrowers in their regiment." Sokov looked at the hole and said gritting his teeth: "Since the enemy cannot come out, we will burn them all in it."
When Oleg was about to leave, a faint shout suddenly came from the entrance of the black smoke. He hurriedly said to Sokov: "Comrade Battalion Commander, what does the Germans in the basement seem to be shouting?"
Sokov whined to the entrance of the cave and ordered Oleg, "Come over and listen!"
Oleg carefully came to the entrance of the cave and squatted down, listening carefully to the sounds coming from inside. After a while, he heard clearly that someone below was shouting in broken Russian: "Don't throw grenades, we surrender!" Perhaps because he was afraid that the people above would not hear it, the shouting people were repeating constantly.
"Comrade Battalion Commander," Oleg turned his head and said excitedly at Sokov, "The Germans are calling us, saying that they want to surrender!"
Sokov also heard the German army's calls, but he could not confirm whether the Germans really surrendered or fake surrendered, so he said to Oleg: "Let them come out to surrender under the white flag!"
"Listen to the people inside." Oleg heard Sokov say this, and quickly risked his head into the hole and shouted loudly inside: "Come out and surrender immediately with the white flag!"
Not long after Oleg's shout stopped, a slowly rising white flag emerged from the entrance of the cave. A German soldier wearing a steel helmet walked up the stairs. Seeing the muzzle around him facing the black hole, he quickly waved the white flag in his hand twice, and said in a sad and sad manner in a broken Russian language: "Let's surrender!"
Sokov walked to the German soldiers and said with a serious expression: "I am the Soviet major Sokov, and immediately ordered the people below to come out and surrender. I guarantee the personal safety of all of you."
The German soldiers glanced at Sokov's collar and confirmed that he was the supreme commander here. After they turned around and shouted in German below. Not long after, twenty or thirty dirty German soldiers walked up the stairs dejectedly. Behind them was a group of well-dressed officers. In addition to a few school-level officers, Sokov also saw a female lieutenant.
A German colonel walked up to Sokov and stopped, raised his hand to salute and said, "I am the regiment commander Colonel Schwab, and now surrender to you!" After that, he pulled out his pistol, held it in both hands and handed it to Sokov.
Sokov took the other party's pistol and said with a stern face: "On behalf of the 16th Army of the Soviet Red Army, I accept your surrender! I will guarantee the personal safety of all of you."
"Thank you, Mr. Major!" Colonel Schwab thanked him, raised his hand and saluted, followed the rest of the prisoners out.
After Schwab left, Sokov suddenly realized that the other party was communicating with him in Russian. He quickly called the other party and said to him: "Col. Schwab, I want to ask you to order the troops to stop resisting to reduce unnecessary casualties on both sides!"
