Chapter 187 Testing Site

Seeing that Dongniya agreed to go home with her, Sokov couldn't help but be overjoyed. He held Dongniya's hand and walked across the road. Unexpectedly, just halfway through, he suddenly heard someone shouting behind him: "Hey, Dongniya!"
Hearing the shouts, Sokov and Tonia stopped at the same time, turned their heads and looked back. A short and fat male doctor in a white coat and a pair of round-frame glasses ran out of the hospital gate. Tonia quickly broke her hand out of Sokov's palm, pretending to be nothing, and asked: "Terrekin, is there anything?"
"A group of wounded people have just been sent, two of whom need surgery." The fat doctor known as Telekine replied: "There is not enough surgical staff, and the dean is looking for you everywhere, but you came here."
"I know, I'll go there now."
Sokov, who was standing beside Tonya, glanced at him and said unhappily: "Hurry up, everyone is still waiting for you." After that, he turned around and walked back to the hospital.
After Terekine left, Tonya turned to face Sokov and said apologetically: "Misha, it seems that I can't go to your house today. Let's make an appointment another day."
Sokov, who was looking forward to a romantic story to happen next, felt a little disappointed when he learned that Dongniya was going back to the hospital to treat the wounded. But when he reached out and held Dongniya's hand, he still pretended to be generous and said, "It's okay, work is important. You go back to work first, and I'll go find you tomorrow."
When Tonya heard Sokov say this, she nodded vigorously and told him: "I'm in Clinic 107, don't forget, you must come to me if you have time?"
"Don't worry, Tonya, I can't forget it." Sokov nodded and replied, "I will definitely go find you tomorrow."
After Sokov's assurance, a sweet smile appeared on Tonya's face. She broke her hand away from Sokov's hand again, took a few steps back, waved her hand at Sokov, turned around and ran into the hospital quickly.
Early the next morning, Sokov, who was still sleeping, was surprised by a burst of rapid knocks on the door. He opened his eyes in a daze, looked towards the door, thinking: Who is it? He came to knock on the door so early?
He ignored it, and the knock on the door became louder and louder. A thought suddenly appeared in his mind: Could it be that Donia came to me? Thinking of this, he sat up suddenly, lifted the quilt, and didn't even care about wearing his boots, so he rushed directly to the door.
The moment Sokov opened the door, he shouted excitedly: "Tonia, you are here!" Unexpectedly, before he finished shouting, he found that it was not Toonia standing at the door, but Yakov who had disappeared for several days.
"Who is Tonya?" Yakov, who was standing at the door, looked at Sokov with a disappointed look on his face and asked teasingly: "I didn't expect that you had found a girlfriend in Moscow after not seeing each other for a few days."
"Not a girlfriend, just a friend I just met." Sokov said, flashing his body aside so that Yakov could enter the door.
As Yakov walked inside, he continued, "Average friend, you know you live here? It seems that you are quite sincere to your friends."
Yakov came to the kitchen table and sat down. Looking at the disheveled Sokov, he said to him: "I'll give you ten minutes to wash, change clothes and clean up the house. When the time comes, we will set off immediately."
"Set out?" Sokov asked in a daze about Yakov's stupid words: "Where are we going next?"
"Go to the test range in the suburbs." Although he knew that he was the only one in the house and Sokov were in trouble, Yakov still lowered his voice and said, "The samples of the new rocket launcher you designed have been made, and today is the day for formal testing."
"The sample has been produced?" Yakov's words surprised Sokov. According to his understanding of the Russians, it is impossible to produce such a sample in less than three months to half a year. But now it has been produced in just three or four days, which is simply incredible: "This is too fast, right?"
"The data you provide is so detailed, and the speed of making samples is naturally faster than expected." Yakov said this, raised his wrist and looked at the watch, and said to Sokov: "Now there are only nine minutes left."
Five minutes later, Sokov, who had packed everything, rushed to Yakov, who was sitting at the kitchen table, and said, "Yakov, I'm ready, let's go now."
While on the way, Sokov smiled wryly and said to Yakov: "No wonder the person who can't find you these days. It turns out that he is busy with new weapons?"
Yakov nodded and said with certainty: "Yes, I have been living and eating in the test site for a while. We made samples the next day based on the drawings and parameters you provided. However, the transformation of the rocket is relatively troublesome and we were busy until the completion of the construction last night. After I reported this to the People's Committee, he said it would be best to call you up during the test today, so I came to find you."
Sokov was really amused when he heard Yakov say this, and he secretly said that if it weren't for Ustinov's words, your brother would probably not show up until today, so he threw me here and fend for himself. However, this kind of complaint was enough to think about it in his heart, but he couldn't say it out. He organized a vocabulary in his mind and asked, "Yakov, I want to ask, how do my superiors plan to place me? Can't I keep staying in Moscow like this all the time?"
Unexpectedly, Yakov's next answer surprised him: "You are not doing nothing now. Since the People's Committee member decided to launch a new weapon project, he has contacted Zhukov, the commander of the Western Front Army, and hopes that he will temporarily transfer you to our Weapons and Equipment Department until the development of the new weapon is successful."
"It turns out that Ustinov has reached an agreement with Zhukov to keep me in Moscow for the time being and help develop this new rocket launcher." Sokov finally understood why his superiors did not order him to return to the front line immediately. It turned out that he had been seconded to the Weapons and Equipment Department at this moment. He suddenly asked curiously: "So after the new weapon research is completed, can I return to the front line immediately?"
"General Zhukov did not agree to the request of the People's Committee, but did not object to it." Yakov stretched out a finger and said to Sokov: "General Zhukov said that you can only stay in the Weapons and Equipment Department for a month. Once the time comes, you must return to the front line immediately."
After listening to Yakov's explanation, Sokov finally understood what was going on. Ustinov wanted to leave himself in the Weapons and Equipment Department to assist in the development of new rocket launchers; while Zhukov only agreed to let himself stay here for a month. Perhaps it was because of Zhukov's decision that he had been neglected these days. Ustinov would never let an officer who could only stay for a month go in and out of important important departments in the research and development and production of weapons. Therefore, he was neglected, which is inevitable. If the weapon he was testing today was not designed by himself, Yakov probably wouldn't show up.
The test site was in a forest in the eastern suburbs. After the car drove a distance into the simple road, a checkpoint appeared on the road. A soldier wearing a red armband stood in the middle of the road, waving the red and green flags in his hand to signal them to stop.
After the car stopped, a lieutenant officer walked out of the checkpoint booth. He went straight to the car, looked down at the car, and smiled and said to Yakov: "It's you, Captain Yakov. Are you going to the test site again?"
"Yes, we are preparing to go to the test site." Yakov replied with a smile, taking out his ID and special pass from his pocket and preparing to hand it to the officer.
But the lieutenant officer waved his hand, turned his head and shouted at the warrior in the checkpoint, "Put the roadblock!" After that, he turned around and faced Yakov, raised his hand to his forehead and saluted, "Good luck to you!"
As the vehicle passed through the checkpoint and continued to drive inside, Sokov asked with some concern: "Yakov, why is the inspection here so relaxed? He just let it go without even reading your ID?" In his impression, when he went to see Ustinov a few days ago, the officer outside the door clearly knew Yakov, but the officer on duty today released it directly.
"Don't worry, Misha." Yakov said carelessly about Sokov's concern: "The security work of the test site is loose on the outside and tight on the inside. If someone wants to sneak into the test site, he will be unable to take it."
The car drove forward for a few minutes and encountered a checkpoint again. This checkpoint is about the same size as the checkpoint in front. The difference is that a T-34 tank is parked on the side of the road, and the black hole muzzle points directly to the middle of the road.
After the checkpoint stopped the car, the officers walked to the side of the car, opened the door next to Sokov and said coldly: "Everyone got out of the car for inspection!"
Seeing Sokov being stunned, Yakov nodded to him slightly and said, "Misha, listen to him, let's get off the car first!"
After all the people in the car got out, the officer waved his hand at the soldier standing next to him and said, "Start check!" With his order, several soldiers rushed to the open door, leaned into the car, and conducted a careful inspection.
"What are they doing?" Sokov couldn't help but ask Yakov curiously when he saw this scene.
"Check for any contraband." Yakov replied in a low voice: "Don't worry, this is just a formality."
After the inspection was over in just a few minutes, the officers made a call to Yakov and Sokov and others, and then said, "Two commanders, please get in the car."
After passing two more checkpoints, we finally arrived at an open land in the forest. Sokov stayed in Moscow for a long time, so he naturally knew that fires occurred in the forests in the suburbs every year, and then a forest was killed. The open land in front of us should be a masterpiece after the forest fire, and you can see the lodged black tree trunks in the distance.
When the car arrived at the test site, Sokov found that there were already twenty or thirty people waiting here. Seeing the car Yakov was riding in the test site, a tall and thin man in casual clothes immediately came up. Yakov got out of the car and shook hands with him, and then asked, "Are you ready?"
"Yes, Captain Yakov." The tall and thin man replied respectfully: "As soon as you arrive, we can start the experiment."
Perhaps for the sake of confidentiality, Yakov did not introduce Sokov to who the tall slim one was. Similarly, he did not tell Sokov about his identity. As he walked forward with the tall slim one, Sokov, who was following behind, heard him asking, "How far is the target?"
"Eight hundred meters." The tall and thin guy replied: "Although it should be eight kilometers according to the design standards. But you also know that it is not enough to use that long distance when it is just a test."
Sokov saw an ugly twelve-barrel rocket launcher parked not far away, with several short gun barrels placed on the ground, which were arranged according to the standards of four, two, and one by one. Sokov guessed that in today's test, in addition to the complete rocket launcher launch, group launch tests will also be carried out separately.
Fifty or sixty meters away from the rocket launcher, there is a wooden house, which should be the observation point on the test site. The tall and thin man brought Yakov and Sokov to the house, handed the two telescopes to the two, and said to them: "Two commanders, in today's test, the rocket warhead will not be equipped with fuses. We will only test how big the hit error of this rocket launcher is." He pointed at several mounds in the distance and continued: "After the test is over, we will analyze the shooting accuracy of this rocket launcher."
Sokov raised his telescope and looked into the distance. He saw that at the edge of the forest, facing several large mounds of soil, this should be the target of the rocket launcher. To be honest, he only heard of the new 107 rocket launcher, but never seen it. Now after the Soviet army's transformation, he really doesn't know how effective it is on the battlefield. Therefore, when he saw the tall and thin man giving orders to the artillery soldiers on the phone, his heart couldn't help but raise his throat.
With the command of the tall and thin man, the complete rocket launcher was the first to fire. Twelve rockets dragged their long flame tails and flew towards the mound in the distance. In just a few seconds, most of the rockets fell around the mound on the far right, and only one shot hit the mound directly. The huge impact force made a stream of mud soar into the sky.
